Twenty things to know about End of Watch
There is a fantastic first report on End of Watch over at Collider this morning. Collider spent Day 19 of a mere 22-day shoot on set and came away with twenty things you should know about End of Watch as well as this synopsis:
'Giving the story a gripping, first-person immediacy, the action unfolds entirely through footage from the handheld HD cameras of the police officers, gang members, surveillance cameras, and citizens caught in the line of fire to create a riveting portrait of the city’s darkest, most violent corners, the cops who risk their lives there every day, and the price they and their families are forced to pay.'
Among the twenty things to know, we learn that the film is a 'true indie', Jake only needed an hour with the script before deciding to do it, the action is always seen from Jake's or Michael Pena's point of view (both use cameras), and there is levity to go with the drama. Head over to Collider to see the full list of 20 and, no doubt, like me, you'll come away realising that End of Watch is going to be a completely different kettle of fish from the one I was expecting. This may well be the one gritty LAPD drama with a difference.

The official photo is impressive.
Yeah, these gossip rags are speculating that Jake and Anna are "dating" by these images. But . . and as we've seen . . EoW is being filmed very much like a reality-type of movie (for lack of a better way to describe it). The direction has been very loose. As you can see, Jake is wearing a wedding band in all of the pics with Anna. I'd have to say these are from on the set. So, in a couple of days, Jake's supposedly dating his co-star and dating Rashida Jones - even though the photos prove nothing. Also, in that group photo shoot at Gratitude . . how come no one is mentioning that he hugged some other woman inside the restaurant? The media feeds us what it wants us to believe.

It's all a load of nonsense, Leslie, and really doesn't matter very much. Jake'll date who he wants and good luck to him! Love all of these details about End of Watch - I feel so keen to see it now, and I didn't before. And I think Anna is just wonderful :)

As for other stuff . . tonight is the premier of Sons of Anarchy Season 4 . . and then tomorrow is the finale of Rescue Me. Two of the top shows on television now. I'm going to be excited tonight and then completely heartbroken tomorrow night.

I like so much those 20 things about EoW. It's definitely a very interesting movie!
The pictures from the way to Las Vegas with Anna and Jake are awesome and very mysterious. I can't figure it out - are they private? - they look like, but that ring on Jake's finger? Or did they turn a movie then, but no camera man was seen on them.
I have one more idea, since I think Jake and Anna didn't have proper time to get familiar with each other, maybe on their way to Las Vegas, they were just practising loving behaviour, to be more convincing during the right shots?
Cause as far as I know - Anna has a boyfriend, it's not in Jake's style to behave so openly at the beginning of a relationship.
But anyway I like those picture very much. They look absolutely fine together. They will be good match in the movie IMO.

The 20 Things about EOW are AWESOME! I get more and more excited about this movie every time I hear something new. It sounds like it will be a very realistic depiction and I have high hopes for a big success at the box office.

It's such a great article, Mermon! I think that Jake and Anna were spending time still in character while not on camera - still dressed for the part etc. It must be so difficult to build that chemistry etc but I suppose Jake and Anna will be used to it. Really interesting to get a glimpse of behind the scenes.

IHJ is saying that the photos are from day Sept. 1. It seems they were going to Las Vegas.
This may just be a rehearsal for the scene that they would shoot.
I really like the idea of EoW; it seems so different for a major motion picture to be going this route plus with such a short shooting schedule and Jake looks bad ass in that photo!
It's funny how much Jake looks like David Ayer with a shaved head (LOL).
I am also very happy about the '20 Things' article and I found it very interesting. Though it would be fun to see Jake play a villain, I love the idea of jake being a bad ass cop and going home to his family and good friends every night whom he loves dearly yet protects fiercely. Officer Taylor - now there's a good man!
I am also super excited because Collider has MORE EoW info they will put on the site later :)
Kate - two shows that I highly, strongly recommend. They both are exemplary shows that absolutely should not be missed! The finale for Rescue Me will have me floored for a while, I am sure. Charlie Hunnam (from Sons of Anarchy) is a good runner up to Jake - plus he starred (and is good friends) with our beloved Annie Hathaway (in Nicholas Nickelby)!!!!
About those 20 things.. It mentions that Michael's character is married, but Jake's and Anna's characters are "dating". Michael wears a wedding band on set and Jake does not (I have not yet seen an on set pic of Anna's hand). So now I'm REALLY confused. Not sure of the filming choice. I've seen movies done like that and they can be kinetic and confusing (and, as aforementioned, I am already confused, LOL!)..
I would have thought that someone had figured it out by now, but it seems that not even Elisabeth has spotted it yet:
Jake's and Anna's characters are in Las Vegas - without Micheal's character and his wife, so obviously it's private.
What is Vegas famous for - WEDDING CHAPELS!
In some of the pictures you can see that Anna holds her Iphone from below to catch Jake's face.
I think that Dan is marrying his girlfriend in a short, intimate ceremony in Vegas and pictures of it from the Iphone will be in the movie.
So realy these are pictures from the "set".
At least that's my POV...
This sounds like the most complex movie in terms of technical ways that Jake has done yet. And he has always been strong in Indy movies. I'm so psyched about it!

Love how you describe it, Margot! Taylor is a good man and I can't wait to see how Jake plays him (although ideally it would have been with a little more hair...;D). That's good news about Collider!

Hi G4J :) In an earlier synopsis for the film that we saw, it mentioned that Jake's character was married to Anna's - if not necessarily at the beginning, maybe by the end. And I'd say that the rings support that!
That makes perfect sense, Mrs JG, and I think you're spot on! Interesting about the technical aspect of it all. We know Jake loves photography and so he must have been interested by the way this film's being done. Also he has involvement in the development of the scenes. Must be good for him.

On IHJ there is the picture of them both wearing the ring.
@Sasha I've thought about Anna filming them with her iPhod, but she kept it very low, so what kind of shot it would be? I also think they got married in LV (characters), but like Monica said IHJ says that the pics are from September 1 and I remember, they supposed to go there one week ago. So those pics are suppously taken after the wedding - because of the rings. What a riddle and mix up with the dates!
Movies do not always shoot in sequential order. Just because we get a beginning/middle/end doesn't mean that's how they're shot. Example - Jake shot the ending for Jarhead first before the rest of the movie (and before they shaved his head). Principle photography is done - they're probably just doing all the filler and extra stuff now that wasn't flushed out or schedules did not permit. EoW had to wait for Anna to be free from her previous filming too so it is possible that they're going back and doing some things she could not be present for when they started shooting.
