After reports of Jake Gyllenhaal having been seen in 9 out of every 10 organic cafes in the city of New York, it's good news indeed that this weekend we get our first glimpse for quite a while. This enables us to check on the progress of the Hair and the Face Pet, both of which seem to be in recovery after the devastation wreaked on them by End of Watch. It's also a bit of a red letter day for another reason. On attending a service for Yom Kippur with the family yesterday (including the very gorgeous Peter Sarsgaard), Jake gave many of us our wish and let us see him with his 'proper' glasses on. Not those modern fad things known as sun shades, but bona fide specs that you read books with and do newspaper crosswords with. Looks like Jake has also taken up a new form of transport.
I hope that all readers who celebrate had a great day too!
Earlier in the day, Jake decided to make Central Park look extra lovely.
On Thursday (6 October), Jake took his muscles for a smoothie and a laugh at
Organic Avenue, which specialises in the 'food of love' and is not only organic but also vegan.
Pictures from
Just Jared and
IHJ - there are many more there!

Jake is carrying Ramona's skate board, you can see her hiding behind him and in some pics you can see her with her helmet on.
I know that, 14: 30 - I'm having a joke. Admittedly a rubbish one, but a joke nonetheless...
PS that's not a skateboard...
Correction, a scooter and Ramona looks just like Peter!
Hi!
Jake spoiled us with so many pictured sighting in last two days. Lucky us.
I like him very much in those glasses. Looking very distinguish. After many rumours finally we had a chance to see him en face with those. I like what I see.
I read a bit about Yom Kippur (liking Jake is very educative)and I found out, that few things are forbidden in that day.
1.No eating and drinking
2.No wearing of leather shoes
3.No bathing or washing
4.No anointing oneself with perfumes or lotions
5.No marital relations
From what I see Jake is wearing leather shoes or maybe it's a fake leather.:) I don't know if he followed the other points, but they are not that burdensome. :)
Nice Yom Kippur to all Jews!
Thank you Kate for that funny and reach post.
She does :)
I like the look too, Mermon! Being blind as a bat myself, I really like to see Jake wearing glasses. And this is just about the first time (not counting photoshoots, movies). That's quite a list. Jake and Maggie both eat pork etc I believe so I wonder if they follow all that too closely but it's fascinating.
I hope everyone's having a good Sunday!
The most inportant thing to know of Yom Kippur is that it starts really from the Jewish New Year, and it is ten days ending with Sabbath on Saturday. It is the Day of Atonement. This is the period where people acknowledge the wrongs they have done, and ask forgiveness. They atone. They resolve to try to be better in the new year. On the eve of Yom Kippur itself people fast. Some very Orthodox Jews have many rules and they are much more strict than others.
I love Jake with eyeglasses. Now I wonder if he was wearing his own glsses when he made Proof. Harold Dobbs wore glasses.
Also, if you look carefully, in the picture of them, Jake appears to be the only one wearing leather shoes.
Thanks very much for all the background info, 16:49! I love how I keep on learning here :)
I wonder if Jake was not so long in NYC because of Yom Kippur holiday. To cherish those days with his family. So, who knows, maybe soon he will leave to LA again.
Thanks anon for the explaination of the holiday. Not all Jews celebrate the same way. It depends on how religious you are. My family is not Orthodox so we don't follow everything.
but it sure is hard to fast
he sure looks fine in those specs

Hi Mermon!
He looks great, Sweetpea :) I lived in Israel so I've been very interested in Judaism for years but I've learned more about Yom Kippur today :)

Just read your review of the George Harrison documentary on MovieBrit, Kate. I must agree that the world is a better place for having had Mr. Harrison in it. I've had a nearly life-long love of Beatles music and have been fascinated with reading and seeing everything about them that I could. Fortunately, I've passed this trait along to my daughter, who has successfully taken it to the next degree.
We loved the Scorcese documentary! It was absorbing, insightful, and entertaining with lots of interviews and clips that were new to me. I especially enjoyed the music.
I'm glad there was lots about Mr. Harrison's spiritual side; that was always such a mysterious aspect of his personality to me when I was a kid. I just didn't get it back then. I'm a lot closer to getting it now. I hope I'm as ready to leave as peacefully as he was when the time comes.
Morning everyone!
That must be Susan :D I'm so glad you liked the film too. I'm really pleased now I saw it on blu ray over two nights rather than all at once in the cinema. A wonderful experience. I didn't understand that part of George either when I was a youngster but now I do, more so than ever after watching this. His outlook on life was admirable.
have a lovely day everyone. Hugely busy here. But more pics to come later!
Jake went to support Michelle yesterday at the premiere of her film "My Week with Marilyn" at the NY Film Festival
