It is a truth universally acknowledge that Gyllenhaalics spend a considerable amount of their time giving Jake tips about the hair on his head and face. It would seem that he is more in need of our advice than ever.

But no. Jake hasn't been mixing miracle hair growth powders in his milk, nor was he snapped on the way to do the schoolrun (an activity undertaken by 98% of people in their pyjamas), he was presenting Jeff  Bridges with his Original Dude Award at the Spike TV Guys Choice Awards held in LA yesterday. Jake was in a cunning disguise as Jeff's famous creation the Big Lebowski. I don't know about you but I was fooled for a while. The awards will air on Spike TV on Wednesday. This is one routine, I am desperate to see!

I think the giraffe is a nice touch. I might be wrong but I think this is the first time I've ever posted a photo of Jake in a wig with no trousers on next to a giraffe.

Jake didn't scrub up to be photographed with the giraffe but he did for Amy Adams.

But it's back to NYC for Jake now, to present at the Tony Awards tonight. His seat is waiting for him. The post will be updated tomorrow with photos from that event. Even if Jake wears his smartest suit, it might be hardfor the Tony's to top the giraffe. Photo source.

Jake Gyllenhaal's glorious return to the red carpet to cries of 'We love Jake!' (Part 1)

With thanks to everyone for all the mugs of virtual coffee that have kept me going through the day, it's time to attempt a catch up on what was The Longest Night. No doubt, Jake Gyllenhaal is today back on the Montreal Source Code set with many a tale to tell about his night as the proud brother. Not a hope of getting through it all in one go due to Oscar Sleep Deprivation so here's just a taste of that most enjoyable and most beautiful thing - Red Carpet Jake (with a real hanky in the pocket).


But an Oscar, complete with a Jeff Bridges standing ovation, is most certainly due to IHJ for the most incredible effort in gathering everything together for us all. Follow that link to high quality videos and to so many pictures of Jake on Oscar night that you could paper your bedroom walls in them.


There are several videos of Jake, which chart his progress along a red carpet lined with ravenous interviews on one side and fans on the other yelling 'We love Jake!' Not alone there then. This gave Jake a chance to talk about Prince of Persia - 'No sandals for me in this movie'...



... to talk about why he didn't turn blue...


... and to give a message of love for Maggie. 'I can't express how much I love her as my sister, but this is an extraordinary feat and she deserves it. She has for so many performances given and this is just the kind of accumulation of all those. It's amazing to be part of it.' The hanky in the pocket was real, just in case he got 'sniffly', 'which I may if I see my sister up there'. And Jake then warmly thanked the interviewer for such a question.



More interviews to come no doubt, but now time to look at Jake himself as he re-entered his natural element - movie star shining on a red carpet. Independently spirited - Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal

Last night, Maggie Gyllenhaal was among those toasting made-on-a-budget-movies at the Independent Spirit Awards in LA.


This not only meant that Avatar was out of the running by at least $5 billion, it also meant that Maggie could try out some dress options ahead of The Big Day on Sunday. A tweeter mentioned that they had saved the day by lending Maggie a safety pin for her dress. I would suggest that possibly one safety pin was not enough for the job.


Peter Sarsgaard was there to support Maggie and also to celebrate the success of An Education which won the Best Foreign Movie award.



Maggie presented Crazy Heart co-star Jeff Bridges with his Best Actor award. I hope Jeff has mammoth mantelpieces.


Brother Jake Gyllenhaal wasn't about at the ISAs although he has been spotted back in LA, where he is, no doubt as we speak, ironing his shirt in preparation for Sunday's Oscars. But Jake was a regular feature at the Independent Spirit Awards back in the mid Noughties, as befitting an actor who knows the definition of an Indie Movie.


The ISAs have seen Jake hobnob with an array of stars and co-stars. Here are a few of my personal favourites from these visits to the shining white marquis of Santa Monica. These pictures also demonstrate how Jake's hair length and his body language are directly related. And that he smells good.
