Jake Gyllenhaal takes a stroll in NYC and appears in a special evening for military personnel as we remember

Any doubts as to which continent Jake Gyllenhaal might be on right now (one report had him flying from LAX to London yesterday) were dispelled by photos and news. On Friday 9 November Jake was spotted walking hand in hand in NYC with The Mystery Brunette, who we have seen in pictures before, with old friend and Day After Tomorrow co-star Austin Nichols along for the walk as well.

Thanks to IHJ for the lovely pics!

Today is the day that many nations stop and remember those who gave their lives for us and are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Jake is one of several well known names taking part in a free performance tonight for military personnel in NYC which will feature staged readings from American plays. The night is intended to bridge the gap between the military and performing arts worlds.

And finally...

Congratulations are due to The Shoes who won two awards at the UK Music Video Awards this week for Time to Dance - Best Dance Video and Best Editing. If there had been an award for Best Actor in a Video, I'm pretty sure they would have won that too. Congratulations, The Shoes!

[Updated] Jake Gyllenhaal out for sushi with Austin Nichols and Adam Levine

It's always good to see Jake Gyllenhaal out with his old friends. On 18 January Jake was seen going out for sushi with Austin Nichols, Adam Levine and the Green Trousers. It is not known if The Truck was also in attendance.

Thanks, IHJ, for more wonderful pictures!

[Update] yesterday, 19 February, Jake dined out with a friend at Angelini Osteria, looking really rather lovely. JustJared has many more pics.

Jake Gyllenhaal has a new manager, the Golden Globes, Brokeback Vote, and not a rotten tomato

It's the New Year and you know what that means. Time to turf out the old and ring in the year. For me that means new slippers but for Jake Gyllenhaal it's all about new management. Deadline reports that Jake has now signed up to work with Patrick Whitesell of WME. I'm sure we all wish them both every success for 2012 - may the year be full of seductive scripts and irresistible directors.

The last post was typically published about ten minutes before the announcement of Jake as a presenter at Sunday's Golden Globes. This is great news, not least because we will see Jake in a tux and maybe even without excessive hair weight, but also because we can see Jake in the public eye, presenting himself to us all. Other presenters include Jake's friends Natalie Portman, Robert Downey Jr and Adam Levine. Sounds like a good night!

Talking of awards, the DGA has nominated Jake's father Stephen in the TV movies and miniseries category for Girl Fight. The winners of those awards will be announced on 28 January.

Brokeback Mountain is still in third place in the Focus Features best film poll so VOTE VOTE VOTE!!! And then vote again.

Source Code might have been left out of the gongs so far, for reasons unfathomable, but audiences and critics loved it. One could argue that their opinion matters more than any academy. Rotten Tomatoes has listed its Golden Tomatoes Awards for 2011 and at No 8 is Source Code with 91% of love.

Meanwhile, while Jake prepares for the Globes, ironing off the suit and polishing the shoes and tweaking the nasal hair, twitter sightings continue, with a spotting last night of Jake having dinner with Austin Nichols - sushi? - in LA. Here's hoping we may see them cycling together soon.

As this post has an awards theme in places, it's very apt that IHJ has published old/new photos of Jake and Selma Blair at the 2002 Movieline Young Hollywood Awards. Ten years ago - how time flies.

Thanks to IHJ for the pics. Thanks to BBMISwear for the twitter link!

Jake Gyllenhaal works out with Austin Nichols and Sophia Bush - and PoP tops international box office!

All this talk about Jake Gyllenhaal's incredible workout regime for Prince Dastan appears to have given Jake a bit of a nudge... Yesterday (29 May), Jake spent a couple of hours down the gym in LA with Austin Nichols and Sophia Bush. He then went home to eat a piece of dark chocolate and have an occasional glass of wine (please see earlier post this evening). Please note how I'm not mentioning Austin's socks...

I just updated this evening's earlier post with the great news that Prince of Persia has topped the international/foreign (ie, not the US but the rest of us) box office! According to THR: 'The Disney film drew $59 million from 7,100 screens in 47 territories for an early international cume of $87.5 million. Taking second place on the weekend was " Sex and the City 2," which opened on the foreign circuit with $27.6 million from 3,700 screens in 17 markets.' Things may have been slow in the US this weekend, but this is great news! I would like to point out that I am not responsible for all of those cinema tickets, just a healthy bunch of them.

Jake and Austin modelling stripey spandex in Santa Monica today (13 April)

Well, now here's a sight for sore eyes - who needs chocolate, Easter bunnies and newborn lambs and chicks when you can get a look at Jake Spandex Gyllenhaal? Today, Jake's been working off those Cadbury's creme egg calories with some cycling around Santa Monica with Austin Nichols, both of whom took the opportunity to model the latest Stripey Spandex - Jake in the white version and Austin in the black.

There was a rumour today that Amazon had reclassified its spandex cycling outfits as Adult costumes, removing their sales ranking and their appearance in searches. However, it turned out this was a glitch and Spandex has now been restored to its rightful category. Phew, I was worried there...

Edited to add: And as the sun warmed up, the layers came off...

Many thanks to IHJ for the new pictures.

Jake Gyllenhaal in spandex - out with Austin Nichols, 5 March

It is a widely known fact that you cannot have enough of Jake Gyllenhaal in spandex - in that sense he's a bit like marmite on toast. Here, with many thanks to IHJ, we have pics of Jake out cycling today in Brentwood with old and hot pal Austin Nichols (5 March).

Yesterday, Jake was back at that favourite haunt of his - The Medical Centre - in order to look hot in a new jacket.

Many thanks to IHJ for the hot pics - and many thanks to Ruby for a wonderful evening!

Getting around and about and making films

More pictures of Heath Ledger's Joker have been unleashed and they are extraordinary. I don't know how it's possible but this Joker is terrifying, menacing and sexy all at the same time. And when these images will be matched with the voice, the effect will be amazing.

At one time, the idea of playing Batman himself appealed to Jake Gyllenhaal, as he told the Chicago Sun-Times back in 2004: 'It's a character I would have loved to do and it would have meant working with Christopher Nolan, who is such a genius.'

It's a small world

Maggie Gyllenhaal left the cast of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee to spend time with Peter and Ramona in England as Peter films An Education. However, Maggie intends to travel much further than that. It's been reported that Maggie is to star opposite Paul Bettany (who plays a shell-shocked soldier) in the 'romantic drama' South Solitary. 'Solitary follows the story of Bettany's character when he is recuperating in Tasmania. The lensing of the movie is expected to start sometime in 2008 and it will take place in a remote lighthouse off the coast of the Australian island state of Tasmania.'

Paul Bettany will be familiar to many of us from a couple of roles. In Wimbledon, a film I am unable not to watch each June/July, Paul played opposite Kirsten Dunst and Jake's The Day After Tomorrow co-star Austin Nichols and Jake was a visitor to the set (see above - September 2003). Not only that, Paul was a joy to watch as Chaucer in Knight's Tale alongside Heath Ledger. And now he is to play opposite Maggie. I feel like I say 'It's a small world' with disturbing regularity.

An Education

This week, the Daily Mail featured Carey Mulligan, a young actress, who, although 22 years old in real life, plays a 16 year old in An Education, in which she attracts the attention of Peter Sarsgaard's wheeling and dealing character. 'Carey's character, Jenny, 'lives this dull beige life in Twickenham'. Until, that is, an older man drives into her life... Everything changes when she meets David (Peter Sarsgaard), a man with fingers in many pies who drives a red Bristol car.' Here is another picture from the set.

Jake getting around and about

New pictures of Jake walking to a gym on 4 April reveal that his bad ankle has not affected his walking-backwards-to-avoid-paparazzi skills. A video of Jake and Reese walking to a car on the same day also confirms that, although Jake's ankle is well strapped up, he does seem to be moving much easier on it. That is a big relief, not least because there is now only a week to go before Jake goes back to work.

And thanks to IHJ for more pictures from Cabo - that Game Ready looks a heavy load to me.

And finally, snow skills...

And just because I woke up today to a very unusual site for southern England in April - thick snow - here is Jake building an igloo.
