[Updated update] Jake Gyllenhaal presents and walks the red carpet! Happy Birthday Peter! Duncan Jones tweets about SC and more...

Update (again!) Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdmas presented Best Adapted Screenplay to Precious. Upon presenting the award and walking off camera, Jake and the winner shared a huge grin!

At last! Jake Gyllenhaal walks the red carpet. In this interview, with AP, Jake Gyllenhaal told the interviewer, who'd just spoken to Maggie and Peter, that she was caught in a Gyllenhaal Sandwich. Maggie had just mentioned 'he's caught up!'. Tribute was paid to Peter wearing his wedding tux while Jake said he was wearing Burberry and rooting for his sister. Jake was also interviewed for E! so hopefully we'll be able to see that later.

As Hollywood wakes up to Oscar Day - if indeed it went to bed - we still have time to bake a cake, defrost a trifle and tie some ribbons because today is Peter Sarsgaard's birthday! Further excuse, if any were needed, for Peter and Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal to float down that red carpet tonight and shine with happiness, irrespective of the result for Maggie and for An Education. So happy birthday Peter from WDW!


Before we look at what's going on in LA, we've had our first 140-word reports from the Source Code set in Montreal thanks to director Duncan Jones and a certain social networking site. Over to Duncan: 'So! 1st week on Source Code: built a train, and it's a beauty, but a bugger to shoot on. JG & MM are such a good laugh! Love em to bits.'

'SC has more humour in it than we saw on the page, & that's been great fun! Shot some of our effects tests & they're wonderfully horrible!'


So what do we learn from this? 1) Duncan loves Jake Gyllenhaal to bits - this is hardly surprising because Love Him To Bits is actually Jake's middle name. It can't hurt that Duncan loves Michelle Monaghan to bits as well. 2) 'wonderfully horrible' effects - love it! 3) Duncan built a train which shows that not only is he a talented director he's also handy wth a spot of glue, sticky tape, corrugated cardboard and paint. 4) Source Code might be gruesome (I'm thinking it's gruesome) but it's also funny. 5) I can't wait to see this film.


The Oscars... despite Peter's advice to Carey Mulligan that she shouldn't drink a lot before the Oscars because she's going to drink a lot after the Oscars, there is every chance that there are some pre-Oscar fluffy heads this morning thanks to a night of parties. The main bash Jake attended was the Montblanc Charity Cocktail at Soho House in LA, hosted By The Weinstein Company. 'Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Gosling, Gwen Stefani also partied loud and well into the early hours of Sunday morning.' According to tweeting Jared 'Jake G [was] chatting up Emile Hirsch and his BFF Jamis Foxx.'


Earlier yesterday, Jake was among the many stars rehearsing for the Oscars and this was followed by the first big party of Saturday: The Night Before party at the Beverly Hills Hotel. This event demonstrates very well the big gap between being a star and not being one, because while star after star swans in for sushi, wine and erudite conversation, the likes of me ends up hiding in the coat rack. Admittedly, I hadn't paid $25,000... This still ranks as one of my most fun experiences during my Gyllenhaalic years and I recommend to anyone hanging out in the Polo Lounge on the night before the Oscars. My story is here for anyone who's interested.

Good luck to everyone tonight, kudos to Sandra Bullock for her Razzle acceptance speech and happy birthday Peter! It's been a while but Jake will be back at the Oscars.


It's going to be a long night. I can almost smell the hairspray and shoe polish from here.

Independently spirited - Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal

Last night, Maggie Gyllenhaal was among those toasting made-on-a-budget-movies at the Independent Spirit Awards in LA.


This not only meant that Avatar was out of the running by at least $5 billion, it also meant that Maggie could try out some dress options ahead of The Big Day on Sunday. A tweeter mentioned that they had saved the day by lending Maggie a safety pin for her dress. I would suggest that possibly one safety pin was not enough for the job.


Peter Sarsgaard was there to support Maggie and also to celebrate the success of An Education which won the Best Foreign Movie award.



Maggie presented Crazy Heart co-star Jeff Bridges with his Best Actor award. I hope Jeff has mammoth mantelpieces.


Brother Jake Gyllenhaal wasn't about at the ISAs although he has been spotted back in LA, where he is, no doubt as we speak, ironing his shirt in preparation for Sunday's Oscars. But Jake was a regular feature at the Independent Spirit Awards back in the mid Noughties, as befitting an actor who knows the definition of an Indie Movie.


The ISAs have seen Jake hobnob with an array of stars and co-stars. Here are a few of my personal favourites from these visits to the shining white marquis of Santa Monica. These pictures also demonstrate how Jake's hair length and his body language are directly related. And that he smells good.

A closer look at the Prince of Persia - great new stills and a new poster

More stunning new stills from Prince of Persia today, including a closer look at Jake Gyllenhaal acting as a clothes line, one of our favourites. Others show that Dastan doesn't just have a battle on his hands with a feisty high priestess, he has a feisty horse too, Aksh (bless you). It's difficult to even recall the last photoshoot pictures we had of Jake Gyllenhaal. Not counting the recent fabulous Leather Shot with Tobey Maguire, it's been quite a while (trying not to remember Ukelele Jake from the Interview shoot). But now with Prince of Persia rocketing towards us at a rate of knots, there's the promise of a GQ on the way and more. And here, with many thanks to IHJ, is a taster of what's to come.


Deep breaths... And another tweeter has posted comments affter a viewing of Loving and Other Drugs: 'Oh my... Love and Other Drugs... brilliant. And Jake Gyllenhaal's bod was effing magnificent.' 'This movie was def not Disney material due to excessive nekkidness.'




Also, delighted to see that IHJ has new HQ versions of two recent Prince of Persia, including yesterday's horse shot, which, on closer inspection, shows Jake and Gemma stunt doubles as well.



And there was I thinking nothing could beat yesterday's Gate.

While director Duncan Jones sets up 'some special effects nonsense' on the Source Code set, there's time to take a pause, pull up one of those director's chairs, send out the runner for pastries, wipe the lens and contemplate some other Jake Gyllenhaal goodies.


The first Jake Gyllenhaal goodie up for discussion this evening is his famous merkin, enthusiastically discussed on the Jimmy Kimmel show and elsewhere not too long ago. Jake, like the true gentleman he is, would not comment on Anne Hathaway's own merkin and, indeed, during Anne's own appearance on the show yesterday, she did not discuss her own merkin either. She did, however, comment on Jake's obsession with his. She also revealed that Love and Other Drugs is a beautiful love story with lots of sex - she and Jake 'went to it'. I fear I am going to need a cinema season ticket.



More Jake Gyllenhaal goodies come in the shape of some new Prince of Persia stills, which include a great picture of Feisty Tamina (filmed by a very comfortable-looking cameraman) and a wonderful picture of Jake and Gemma Arterton on a horse.



But not just any horse. The horse in question is Aksh - bless you - and another Jake Gyllenhaal goodie is Dastan astride Aksh for your mantelpiece or desk.


Another goodie is a gate. I find this one a little more difficult to get excited about. It also has fewer uses. Might be good for croquet in the summer if you had a bunch of them. Or a catflap. Toy pics here.

[Updated update] Jake Gyllenhaal to present at the Oscars... A new Prince of Persia trailer! Stuff. LEGO!

As promised - this post is hereby updated! The great news today is that Jake Gyllenhaal is now listed as one of the presenters for this Sunday's Oscars, so he will be there alongside Maggie, Source Code co-star Vera Farmiga and the cast of An Education. This also gives Jake the chance to dust off the tux and get some red carpet walking time in before May when a certain film is released - talking of which...


Today is a good day - it comes complete with a new Prince of Persia trailer. More Jake Gyllenhaal - in action and with that supercool English accent. Admittedly snakes don't come out of this too well but everything else is great. 'Difficult but not impossible' - I like that. And more snood. And little Jake. And flirtiness with Tamina. And confirmation from Disney 'PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME is in UK cinemas from May 21st.'



And for a further update... We knew that Jake was at the Crazy Heart gig in LA on 16 February but at last we have some pictures, including one of Jake with T Bone Burnett and Ryan Bingham. The picture is from CMT (via IHJ).

Jake Gyllenhaal and Leather, Jake's mini Jakes and Source Code begins

On Saturday, Jake Gyllenhaal was photographed walking into Katz Deli for the Famous GQ Bring Times Square To A Halt Shoot.



But while Jake is here wearing an undoubtedly very expensive parker - perfectly suited for the winter NYC conditions - it was soon shed for a leather jacket. 2009 may have been the Year of the Hat, but 2010 is turning into the Year of the Leather Jacket (although a friend did email me today asking if I thought Jake was wearing PVC - as if...). Studs are optional.






I'm wondering if the leather may be nostalgia for a) saucy scenes from Love and Other Drugs or b) Jake's Prince of Persia days, brought to mind by modelling for an array of leather clad figurines. There are now new photographs of these figures which I think I may have ordered.



And finally...

Source Code began principle photography today. Director Duncan Jones tweeted at lunch time that things were going well, followed by the comment that if he gets the music for the film that he wishes, it will be the Dog's Proverbials. I have a feeling that the whole movie will be the proverbials.
