[Updated] Coachella - desert rock

Say 'Music Festival' to me and memories of mud rivers, leaking tents and porterloos fill my mind. But the Coachella Music Festival is near Palm Springs and that means heat, a spot of golf and no crawling under a hedge to get in. This weekend, Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon and friends are among the stars enjoying the Ting Tings. Oh, and Paul McCartney, Paul Weller, the Killers and Franz Ferdinand (I'd stick in the beer tent for the Cure). My own festival tip for Jake and Reese: mark your tent with a scarf and take a picture of the surrounding landmarks.

Er, and I have another suggestion...

Jake was reported as being at the MIA set while Jake and Reese were seen enjoying the Fleet Foxes.

They were also among the audience for Jenny Lewis, with Jake looking a thousand miles away.

Jenny was, of course, Jake's date for the Hollywood premiere of Donnie Darko back in 2001...

Includes pictures from IHJ and Getty.

ETA: Thanks very much to IHJ for all the further pics from Coachella yesterday (you can see them there), which include photographs of Jake and Reese with Jenny Lewis herself. The new pictures by the pool (presumably back at the hotel) suggest that the photographer was far more interested in Reese and her pina colada than in a shirtless Jake. What an opportunity.... lost....

The Festival is in Indio not in Palm Springs.
lol at the open zipper. :D and what kind of friends they are,no one warns him.i'd have seen it like the scond he came out of the bathroom.lol.
i don't think he and Jenny Lewis were boyfriend/girlfriend.i think they dated but decided to stay friends.because in Moonlight Mile commentary he mentions her and what she said, as "my friend Jenny Lewis" if she was his girlfriend he'd only say her name or just say my girlfriend.just what i think.and he also said Kirsten was his first real girlfriend/relationship.

(p.s. my word verification is "poled" lolol.)

Hi Anon :) Indio is 19 miles away from Palm Springs - Palm Springs is a place people outside the US can make a reference with. Full location details can be found on the festival's website, which I linked to.

Hope everyone's enjoying their Sunday :D

Great post WDW, still cannot believe people still refer to Reese as Jakes "friend" they act more like a married couple every day.

Thanks Anon, glad you liked the post :)

Hehehe..... just the shirt buttons Jake, not the shorts. Yeah, I know, they needed some air...some friends eh.

Love the pictures with Jake's ex and new girlfriends. That's cool. I think Jenny was more into Jake than he knew judging from her comments about him. I'm also sure Jenny wrote a song about him. Love the faraway look in his eyes... remembering back in 2001/2 and especially what he said in the commentary for MM about his friends finding love and that change happening in his life. Finding that someone you can fall with and hope they catch you. Gosh, his face tells a thousand stories ..... or are they all in my mind..... oh dear - having a Donnie Darko moment :DD

Hi Sheba :D I remember stories at the time that Jenny had written songs about Jake - well, who can blame her? :) Thanks for the reminder about that part of the MMile commentary. A DDarko moment is always good :)

Well, I watched Southland Tales again today and am still none-the-wiser. Of course it's not a patch on DD (although I adore The Rock *swoon*) but DD was to me about love and how inexplicable it is like trying to hold water in your hands. Like love and fun surrounding this post. Make me feel all toasty inside...

Hey Sheba - I've still not seen Southland Tsles and I fear I'd not understand it if I did. I'll stick with DDarko :D

Very cool pics. Love seeing Jake at music festivals and Coachella is supposed to be one of the best. Seems like a lot of celebs were there along with Jake and Reese. I like seeing Jake around with old girlfriends/friends too like Jenny Lewis.

I have never been to a music festival like this or the ones they have in the UK. I don't think I could stand the mud, lol. At least Coachella doesn't seem to be affected like that. ;)

Yes, Jake does look far away in those pictures, but he looks very happy about it. Music that goes to your heart can transport you to some great places!

I just got back from seeing "Observe and Report," with a couple of Jake links.

Anna Faris, who played Lashawn in "Brokeback Mountain," plays Brandi, the makeup counter girl that the protagonist (Seth Rogen, as head of Mall Security) falls for. Seth Rogen is the other Jake link, having bene in "Donny Darko."

Morning everyone! What a beautiful day - just a shame it's a Monday :/

Hi Get Real :D This is one of those occasions when I can't help but feel a bit jealous of Jake doing a festival like this as a celebrity - what a difference, hard to imagine really. I've been to a few festivals over the years and they seem to take me a month to get over! Either really wet and muddy or so hot you can't move. But a good way to see some great acts though. Coachella looks good and so many Brit bands too :D I hope you had a good weekend!

Morning Paul! Thanks for that about Observe and Report - I've not heard of that one. I do like Anna Faris.

Have a good day everyone!

It’s so good to see Jake and all his bracelets again! :)
And that sweet distant look on his face, just beautiful.

I wanna know more about Jenny Lewis' songs and comments about Jake!

Have a good day to everyone.

Hi Xenia! Hope you had a good weekend - I like the bracelets too :D

These are great pictures. I am so jealous of Jake and Reese doing the festival thing VIP style. As a yearly festival goer we usually get washed out of it with rain. Still there is nothing beats great music outdoors on a Summer's day:)

The line up was really impressive for the festival. I noticed that Fleet Foxes were on the lineup. I'm heading to a festival later in the year and they are on the line up. I may be mistaken but I think they are one of the bands that Heath directed a video for.

Have a great day:)

BTW really enjoyed the posts over the last few days WDW but didn't get a chance to post. Especially liked the Swoff post:)

Hi there Carol! A really impressive lineup (and the ticket prices seemed much better than our big festivals). I'd love to see the Ting Tings again! I didn't know that about the Fleet Foxes, that's good to know.

I'm so glad you liked the Swoff post - I really enjoyed that one.
