Happy New Year and all best wishes as WDW closes its bar doors

Happy New Year!

After a great deal of thought, much of it rather emotional, I've come to the conclusion that it is now time for Wet Dark and Wild to close its doors. Much has happened during the nigh on eight years that I have been blogging here and it has been a truly magical and significant part of my life. I have met so many of you, as well as Jake (who has always been admirably gracious and kind to me, making dreams sparkle), and have travelled to a fair few countries on the hunt for adventures. From the BAFTAS back in London in 2007, to Cannes, Toronto, Rome, Berlin and to premieres and other events in Britain, I count myself the most fortunate of all bloggers.

It has been a delight to spend so much time with you all. I am grateful to everyone for reading and supporting WDW, through the busy times and the quiet times. I know that many of the original readers and friends have moved on - if you see this I hope you are all well and happy, and thank you! - and missing you is a big part of why now I think it is time to close the bar doors.

I'm not able to spend as much time blogging here as I would wish and it's been too brilliant a place for me to let it fade away to nothing. I'm still a proud Gyllenhaalic and I see glories ahead in his future, maybe even an Oscar in 2015?! A nomination at least, I hope. If Jake comes over to these shores again, I'll be there, trying to edge my way to the front as normal. Hoping to see some of you there, too.

I've had such a wonderful time here over the years and I'm so sad to say goodbye. I think it will be very hard for me in the coming days and weeks. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm a bit teary now. Not surprisingly really, as running WDW has been one of the best and most satisfying things I have done in my entire life. I wouldn't dream of deleting the blog - there are riches in the WDW archives so do dive in! I know I will. Who knows? I may pop back. Never say never again as someone once said. And I can always be found on Twitter if you want to say hello. I will always be Wetdarkandwild.

So, let's go back to where it all started for me...

With love, goodbye and thank you

Kate x

Brief updates will be added to the WDW FaceBook page - do come and say hello there!

Thank you so, so much, everyone - Kate x

As much as I understand your reasoning it still makes me sad.
Maybe you'll drop by quickly for the Oscar.
And I'm not saying Goodbye as we'll always have Twitter.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

That is a distinct possibility! I need to take the pressure off myself but popping back now and again would be fun if others want to join me. It makes me very sad, too. But thank you x

Hello Kate,
I understand your reasons for closing WDW. Nevertheless it makes me really sad. Your blog has been kind of home for my craziness about Jake and his work. I loved and still do love the way you kept us updated in a very funny and amiring way. Your enthusiasm is always sensible. It was great to meet you in Berlin for the premiere of "Source Code". I will miss your interludes, too. I really hope you will drop by from time to time. I don't use Twitter so I hope you will stay at Facebook as well.
Thank you for not deleting the blog.
A big "thank you" for all your effort and work you put in.
Hugs Christina x

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks so much, Christina, you've been a wonderful, warm supporter and friend and I really appreciate your kindness. Berlin was fabulous! I will make sure to pop into the WDW facebook page frequently. I'm sure I'll pop back here, too. It's been a really difficult decision and it's made me so sad. Thank you! So much x

But where will I get all the latest Jake-news from now on???

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I'm so sorry, Antje. IHeartJake posts everything you need. I'll try and post links on the WDW Facebook page, too. Thanks so much for your support here, Antje!

I should also mention that the WDW gmail doesn't work so if anyone wants to get in touch, please leave a message on this page here :) Or Twitter or Facebook.

Oh Kate! Nooooooooo!

I truly, truly enjoyed reading your blog, even though I haven't been here all that long. However, I do understand why you choose to call it a day after so many years.

It's stange, though. I had noticed you didn't update as much lately, and I had this feeling something was coming... Still, I'm a bit sad :-(

All the best to you, Kate. Thank you for all your work.

Much love xxx

Thank you for your Jake blog, it was always a happy and warm place to visit.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thank you so much, Sonja! You've been a great support. I have been feeling so awful recently for not posting enough. I used to spend hours every day on it, loving doing that, but after all these years I just can't do that. This takes the pressure off me. I'm sad, too. Very sad. But I will be around here and there. Thank you! Much love to you, too. Kxxx

Has it really been 8 years? What an incredible ride! I'm so glad you started this blog and so glad we met and had our Toronto adventure.I remember those early days with great fondness, also the BAFTA red carpet with you "crew." LOL! I hope Jake realizes what a wonderful group of fans he has.

I'll continue to check in from time to time, and I hope when you are able, you 'll share your wonderful travel interludes as well. I always enjoy them.

Happy New Year, Kate, and I'll "see" you down the road.

my warmest regards, always,

Well, Katie, I am very sorry to read this but I'm not surprised. Eight years is a long time to do something with such dedication as you did. I was here on day one. I'm glad you aren't going to delete it because it will be a place for long time Jake fans to remember and new fans to discover all the treasures of Jake's career presented in the most respectful way. Because of Jake I had an opportunity to travel and visit with you in your country. And there was also the Jake adventures we had in mine. They will always be wonderful memories for me. Good luck with your future endeavors. Happy Belated Birthday. Great Job!

Kate thanks so much for WDW - it's the first blog I started visiting and writing on when I first 'discovered' Jake two plus years ago. I've always enjoyed the posts and am grateful for all your hard work, making this is a wonderful place for all us Gyllenhaalics to get together. Good luck with all your new adventures.

Hello, dear Kate!
You're recommending IHJ to get all the latest Jakey-news. That's right but they only give us just the bare FACTS there, not something to smile about while reading the blog. I've got a degree in English literature and British Regional Studies (topic of my oral exam back in 2001 was "The Britishness of the British Isles") therefore it WAS a pleasure for me to come here daily to read your typical "British" style/stylistics and wry sense of humour - as a philologist and afficionado of written words AND as a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal! Plus I did enjoy practising my English by contrubuting to the blog. So sad that I have to go elsewhere now. Keep the faith, cheer up and have a good time. Maybe Jake will be awarded the Oscar in a few weeks time. Watching him accept it I should think of you and all the other Jakey-crazed people who contributed, too.
PS: I always liked the fact that you strictly kept to pieces of information about Jake's career and public life. No gossip about his private life, no glossy-magazine-trash. THANK YOU SO MUCH. That was the main reason I decided to stick to your website when I discovered it in 2008.

Dear Bobbyanna, thank you so much - Toronto was such a pleasure and you were a big part of making it so - thank you! What an adventure that was (and the cocktails were pretty good, too :D). I appreciate you popping by so much and I wish you and your lovely family every future happiness, Kx

Hello Ramona! Thank you! I'm not ruling out popping back at all. And I still intend to have adventures. Thanks for coming by :)

Thank you so much, dear Dani! It was so wonderful to spend time with you - we had such a good time, chasing that premiere all over LA! They're wonderful memories for me, too. I wish you and your family every future happiness, and you know where you can find me :) Katie x

Thank you so much, Malavika!

That is so kind, Tina. Thank you!

Hug to you, Sonja. You can always leave comments here and I'll see them - and on FB. x

That's so kind of you, Antje! I'm a big fab of playing with words and so I'm really pleased that was part of the appeal to you. I liked the Britishness, too! Have to have some fun :) And yep, no gossip. I always knew how much you liked that and I appreciated your support in it. Please do pop by to say hello. Kx

Thank you so much, Mary!

Beckela, thank you! That means a lot - thank you for popping by again :)

Thanks so much again to you all for all your lovely kind wishes and support. I don't want to disappoint anybody and so I really appreciate your kindness. I was still see comments here and on FB and so do let me know how you get on and should something amazing happen with Jake - as I have no doubt at all - then don't be surprised to see a fun post or two. THANK YOU!! xx

So sad to see you go Kate!

I have been reading this blog regularly ever since I first discovered (and Jake) back in 2010... even if I haven't been present as a commenter.

This has always been the best place for Jake news on the entire net so you will be sadly missed!

Jake's career is very exciting at the moment, he's making some excellent role choices and I truly believe he is going to become one of the greatest actors of our generation... and actually be recognised for it (but we knew that already didn't we).

Good luck with everything post WDW and I wish you health and happiness in the New Year.

Thank you so much, Erin! I really appreciate you coming by - it's great to hear from you again! 2010 - those were good days! I totally agree that 2015 looks like it will be an exceptional year for Jake, the first of many. Thanks so much!

Kate - just one thing. You will go and see every new Jake film, I hope?

'Enemy' premiered in the UK two days ago. Please let me know what you thought of it, after you've seen it. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think Jake's performance in it is truly outstanding! After BBM, it's my second fave Jake film.

"... I truly believe he is going to become one of the greatest actors of our generation."

He already is! :-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sonja! I will (though possibly not Southpaw, although I'm sure Jake's performance will be outstanding). Enemy isn't out anywhere near me but I will definitely watch the DVD - it's getting some great reviews! I really want to see it. It feels like it's been around for ages!

(((KATE))) A friend mentioned this goodbye post to me and I logged on right away - feeling similar as you do - sad and emotional about the closing of the blog but not wanting to see it just fade away, as you said. Sigh.

I think there are many of us who found a way to carve out hours and hours to spend on (what I call) "Fun Jake Time on the Internet" for a very long time but for many life caught up with us and that time is not there the way it once was. I visit Jake sites less and less now - not because of lack of interest but because of lack of time. I can't even imagine how you found a way to write such wonderful posts year after year while working full time, having a family life, a social life and managing other writing projects that you are involved in - that's A LOT and I'm sure you were finding that you couldn't get it all done at the level that you wanted to keep it at! It's a tough call but I think it makes sense for you and many of us certainly understand (especially those of us from the early days who don't visit the blog the way we used to). I also think the change in the way info is obtained on the internet these days makes things so different - everything is so fast paced with social media and websites galore - info can be had in a nano-second of it happening changing the style in which people use the internet (which I think changes the way fansites and blogs are utilized).

Okay, I'm rambling...I guess it all just got me thinking of the many changes since 2008 when I first connected with you. One thing that will never change is your talent - you are such a terrific writer and I'm sure you will work on many writing based projects for years to come - kudos to you and good luck with all you do!

I do have to say that the timing of all this definitely made me feeling very nostalgic. Finding out about the release of Nailed ("Accidental Love") at the same time of the closing of WDW reminded me of how you and I became friends in the first place - me visiting Jake on the Nailed set - almost 7 years ago now - can you believe it?! How did it all happen start? I think you met Ted in the UK and he told you about our visit in April of that year and gave you me email address and we exchanged emails. I had visited WDW often but never commented and BANG we were off for a wild ride of years of fun Jake stories, adventures and many, many conversations (and one of the funnest "New England Trips" ever)!! I can't believe that was all 7 years ago....wow!!

Friend, this note is long overdue (now I really am tearing up!)...I thank you for many wonderful years including outstanding, informative, well written blog posts and I wish you the best of luck in all you do. And I am right now bookmarking the WDW Facebook Page - so this really isn't goodbye, is it?!

Big Hugs! Love, Lisa/BBMISwear :-)

tpe said...

Thanks WDW! I would really love to see updates from time to time... and hear how things are going with you too! :-)

I am well! Gearing up to see Constellations! I hope you won't mind me saying that YOU would have been the perfect person to see it with!

If you should ever visit NYC (for a Jake event?), it would be great to see you! Dinner will be on me. Don't know how to keep in touch, but you can always drop a note or post something on EJ. ;-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Lisa, thank you so much! Your friendship is one of the most valuable things that WDW has ever given me and it will well outlast it. Thanks so much for everything you've done for the blog over the years, not least your amazing Nailed adventure and own own fabulous New England Moonlight Mile roadtrip! Amazing times.

As you say, the internet is a very different place now and I find it very hard to keep up. I just cannot do Jake the justice he deserves. I will be emailing you and also updated the FB page. Keep in touch!! xK

Tpe, I would have loved to see Constellations with you! Thank you, what a lovely thing to say. I hope you enjoy it. I can be contacted on the WDW FB page and also there's an email address on the front of my book blog.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Congratulations to Jake - BAFTA nomination!!

BBMISwear said...

Thanks for your response, Kate...yes, we must keep in touch! I thought of you immediately when I heard about Jake's BAFTA nom...and now gearing up for all the Golden Globes fun to come tonight. Jake is everywhere these days...hard to keep up! :-)

I'll definitely be in touch, WDW. And I'll still visit this site, in case you post something every now and then. :-)

Dearest Kate! I've been too sick since the New Year to spend time on line and just today treated myself to a visit to the blog. Needless to say, I am heartbroken although I do understand and appreciate your need to move on. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into your posts that were all so entertaining and informative.
I feel that an appreciation for Jake's talent and career brought us readers together, but it became so much more. I must thank you again for the forum as well - when the blog just couldn't contain all the enthusiasm from your readers, you gave us a place to meet, chat, be silly, be serious, be supportive, and become friends.
One more thing - I believe our dear friend Marzena would be thanking you profusely as well.
Now I'm going to find a dark corner, curl up in a ball, and cry for a while. Then I will find you on Facebook and be happy again.
Thank you, Kate! It's been special.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Dear Susan - thank you so much for your kind words - deep friendships have been made here and I can't think of anything more important to have come out of it. Marzena was heavily in my thoughts when I wrote this post. I've missed her presence more than I can say. I am really sorry to have upset you :( Kx

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I hope you're better now, Susan! sorry for not mentioning that before - I was having an emotional moment!

Hi Kate, yes I am much better now. Don't worry about upsetting me - I am resilient! You have my undying gratitude for giving me some of the best on-line times of my life and for letting me consider you a friend.
