Jake and Abby Singer - Sometimes dreams are all you got

Zodiac is out on DVD (in the US) in just over three weeks but guess what? That's not the only DVD release coming out on July 24 that features Jake Gyllenhaal. Also on that day is released the DVD of Abby Singer The Movie, which contains a cameo of Jake filmed in 2003 at the Independent Spirit Awards. The more you read about this film, the more incredible it sounds.

The producers/main actors essentially spent two years seeking out cameos using, by the sound of it, all manner of clever disguises. In 2002, for instance, disguised as volunteers they sneaked into the Sundance Film Festival and, in 2003, got into the Golden Globes After Party and a number of other exclusive parties. Jake and Jill Hennessey were willing victims from the 2003 Independent Spirit Awards held in Santa Monica, where Jake's films The Good Girl and Lovely & Amazing were both successful (Maggie was nominated as best actress for Secretary). The location explains why Jake shouts out 'Just have some independent spirit!' I'd been wondering why...

The Abby Singer story is all about chasing your dream, as is the story of its creation. The main character Curtis Clemins (played by producer Clint Palmer) has to decide between the love of his life and following his dream. Having been brought to an all time low at the Sundance Film Festival, Curtis rounds up an old friend to help him pick up the pieces. To find out more, here is the official trailer of Abby Singer The Movie.

In this short video of outtakes from Abby Singer, we can see Jake taking this cameo role as seriously as any other, asking if he should play it natural, not as if they were at the awards, and whether he should take his jacket off. You can't help but wish this DVD release all the best for its success. I also just want to say that I love the music!

WDW, I don't know where and how you find so many fascinating things linked to Jake. It's like asking Santa Claus how he delivers all those presents. All I can say is a big old THANKS!

Hey, thanks Dani! I'm glad you enjoyed this. I was really surprised to find this coming out on DVD the same day as Zodiac.

This is a complete surprise to me. I'd never heard of any of this before. I feel like we're all with you on a Treasure Hunt and we're going to be discovering a lot of rare things with you. All I can do is echo Dani with my THANKS!

well I stopped by for some serious discussion and find everyone talking about Jake's treasure trail. NOW I can think of anything better to talk about!

I had better just leave the link to the Abby Singer Myspace page.

Hi Anonymous - thanks for the link. It's good to see the film getting so much attention. I hope it does well for the producers.
