Rendition - first look at the poster! And it's a goodie

We are geting close! The lack of a poster for Rendition, or much publicity at all bar a trailer, has been commented upon, but today we get our first look at the poster and I have to say I like it - not least because Jake Gyllenhaal's name tops the bill. And how good it is to see Jake on a poster with such people as Reese Witherspoon, Meryl Streep and Alan Arkin - great company indeed. Thanks very much to Carla for finding the link for us. Click and it shall be big.

Oh joy!!! Jake tops the bill and he's SPLENDID!!!:)

Thank you WDW for the 'Emergency Post'! ;)

Thanks Xenia and thanks to Carla!

I felt an emergency Poster Post was necessary ;D It really has made my day. Jake looks so handsome on there - and so grown up :)

thanks for posting the poster WDW! It's a great one.

Way back in Moonlight Mile Dustin Hoffman wondered how come Jake got top billing - anybody in the know about how these things work? clever contract demands, or whut?

excitement mounts.

y'know, I watched Highway last night, because of Ruby's mention. (was delighted with this film). To compare Highway Jake with the mature Jake is a road trip!

Did you love Pilot, Pia? Isn't he bliss?

The poster looks fantastic!

Thanks WDW and Carla!!!

That is one great looking poster! Jake topping the bill, and looking, as WDW says, so handsome *swoon* He does look very grown up as well, which is good cos it makes me feel slightly better about the 10 year age gap between us! Seriously, I can't wait to see this. Roll on October!

Wow! That is one powerful poster. If they promote this the right way, and I have no reason to think they wouldn't, the film will make a lot of waves, get a decent showing at the BO and generate some buzz. Oh, yeah. And then there's all those events in January and February next year...don't want to jinx anything! I am just so pleased for Jake.

This is off topic, but not. If there are any other obssessives out there who are interested in film, I wanted to reccommend three books. Just three. About the industry and the how and why of things. I know it has helped me to understand and appreciate what goes on before we ever actually see a movie. (And why popcorn is so expensive! LOL!)
FIrst:Open Wide by Dade Hayes & Jonathan Bing,
Next, The Big Picture by Edward Jay Epstein. And finally, A Killer Life by Christine Vachon. Vachon has a production company that works with Todd Haynes and she has an impressive array of films to her credit among them, Boys Don't Cry and One Hour Photo. Her book is absolutely fascinating. (She had some interesting interactions with James Shamus and Focus Features, the BBM company.)I'm reading it right now. I try to read something film related before I "embark." LOL!!!!Last time, I had a chance to 'visit' with some Australian filmmakers one night at a sidewalk cafe. The director and screenwriter of Little Fish. And yes, Martin Henderson gave us a brilliant wave and a smile as he hopped into a taxi! They were very friendly and unassuming.

I haven't had time to read yesterday's post yet,WDW,but had to drop in here first to say thanks for linking us (via Carla, thanks to you too) to this very imposing and impressive poster for "Rendition".

I love Jake's "sombre, serious and scarred" look (although glad the scar's not for real)and am thrilled skinny (if only!) that he has top billing, especially in the hallowed company of the mighty, magnificent Meryl Streep and co.! This poster illustrates just how much he has grown, in career terms and into such a handsome man.

And not that it matters at all, in the grand scheme of things,Twistedlogic, but 10 years difference is a mere trifle. I admire him from afar across a 21 year age gap! Pass the Oil of Olay somebody and make it the economy size!

Hi everyone - what a day - at last finished work :/ But what a treat to see this poster again - how I love it. I was ready for a gushy post - this'll fit the bill.

Hi Positively Pia - I hadn't heard that about Dustin and MMile. I can imagine it a little annoying for an actor of Dustin's stature to be superceded an actor at the beginning of his career. I don't know why they would do that - I wonder if it's something to do with a studio promoting its new rising star? At the expense of the actors who would surely have been the ones to draw people into the theatres.

And did you like Pilot? As Anouska the Avid says, Pilot is adorable and a fine contribution to the on the road genre.

Hey Twisted Logic I love Grown Up Jake! Woried about that cut on the cheek though ;D

Bobbyanna - thanks for the comment and for the book info. I'm tempted to have a read of one of those myself.

Nadine - thanks for the chuckle. I'm sure you need no Oil of Olay :) Jake makes us all young. - Oh yes indeed!

I was excited about Rendition yesterday - you can triple that today! I cannot wait :D I'd better calm down with a Jake movie - what shall it be tonight...?

After watching the poster over and over again and the first excitement has disappeared I have to admit that I am a bit disappointed. I had expected something original - it looks like someone was thinking "We have some Oscar winners/nominated - lets show them".
And Jake looks ...old.
But the worst is the tagline - this is a political thriller, the tagline makes it sound like a family drama.
For me this is a downgrade compared with the intensity of the trailer.

def456 on IHJ posted the link to the production notes - this is really enjoyable:

With statements from Jake, Gavin and the other actors...

Carla - you're an angel *). These are great. I'll update the post...

I do disagree about the poster though But I think I may be reacting to it with something other than my brain - I just like the look of older Jake and so far I don't think I've taken in anything else of the poster :) I fear senility is setting in.

WDW o gosh, like Anouska you wanna know my response to Highway! Pretty much through the whole thing LMAOAPIMP - kurt colbain and grunge music! - Jake a drug dealer! - frankly I was not prepared for this - I was delighted but sorta in shock. I may watch it again as I thot it quite clever and Jake was fabulous.
fallng, weeping, into his buddy's arms at the end! Robert Redford,of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, what did YOU think of this film? Im still giggling. World divided between Alligator men and thugs? Jake stoned thru the whole picture?

My most amazement is at Jake's choice of roles - no second bananas, no Raiders of the Lost Ark one and two, no serial heros.
He plays "leading kid" - made Pilot a sorta icon. a-MA-zing!

(have I had too much chsrdoney? am I blathering)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Carla I decided to go for the whole new post in the end - too much to just add :)

Hey Positively Pia! What a great review of one of my favourite characters, right from the opening shots 'parking' cars through to that emotional end. Alligator boys - oh yes. Pilot is such a rich character and he just fascinates me. He's impossible to dislike. Oh and I love the music! So much of that film reminds me of my archaeological mispent youth :)

Enjoy your chardonnay - I'm trying to play catch up ;)

LMAOAPIMP - if only I knew what the end of that meant.... :D

Wow, things are getting exciting, with the TIFF coming up and now the Rendition poster! I have a lot of catchup reading to do of WDW's threads (I especially want to see the Charlie Rose BBM clip, I'm getting a bit of a heartache knowing that I'll see the trailer), but just wanted to say how much I love the Renditon poster. Jake looks great, mature and ruggedly handsome. Have to say, I love the scar. Bobbyanna, we want to hear all about the TIFF! Thanks WDW! :)

Anonymous said...

cant even spell chardonay? guess I better go watch Tout Va Bien. Jane Fonda, Yves Montand,Jean Luc-Goddard, a film I gather as much "of its time" as Highway.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Marina! Glad you're enjoying the catch up. And the Charlie Rose interview is so good. You'll love it. It's long so you need supplies. How I love the mature look of Jake on this poster. I feel like everything's coming together :)

Hey Properly pissed Pia - that French film sounds like a bit of a challenge. I'm in the mood for froth tonight so I reckon it's Wet Sam in TDAT.

Anonymous said...

end of pic or end of LMAOPIMP - peeing in my pants? actually, I was lying on my back with tears in my ears - TIME!

I read that Tout Va Bien is a Marxist "critique of marriage".

Q: was BBmt a crique of conventional marriage?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ahhhh - thanks for the translation - I'm in no fit state to discuss critiques - where are the others when I need them ;)

Oh and Bobbyanna,if anyone does step out of line and shows any lack of respect to Jake on the Red Carpet at the TIFF, did you know that the PSI (pounds per square inch) of an average woman on a stiletto heel is greater than that of at least one elephant, so just stand on their foot!
With you in spirit, girl, have a great time!

Yeah, Im wearing my stilettos in solidarity!

Great tip Nadine ;) Does Nike have any affect at all?

Finally glad to see a poster come out, thanks WDW! How cool that Jake gets top billing....on IMDb, it's Reese that gets top billing.

I SO hope this film does well at the box office, for Jake, and everyone involved. It's hard to predict how people will respond to this type of movie.

Bobbyanna - I do know of Christine Vachon's book, A Killer Life, but I've not read it. Her production company, Killer Films, also happens to be one of the producers for I'm Not There. Not long ago I listened to an audio interview with her and she was talking about the filming and making of Boys Don't Cry which was quite interesting. Peter was so good at being so bad in that movie! He was creepy! What a nice experience that must have been meeting the director of Little Fish. I have not seen it, but it sounds really good. I look forward to hearing your experiences at the TIFF very soon (hope you get some Jake TIFF pics!)!

Positively Pia - It is alot of fun watching extras, deleted scenes, and especially commentaries on DVD's. What I wouldn't give to have the whole kit and kaboodle on the BBM DVD!! It must be difficult for some Christian Bale fans because he has said in interviews that he does not like DVD commentaries at all, and he refuses to do them!

Just a wild guess here but perhaps Jake gets the cut on his cheek when in the trailer we see a scene outside of a type of explosion or terrorist bomb of some sort....Maybe Jake happens to be near it when the explosion goes off or something. Who knows, I'm just thinking out loud, lol.

Carla - I do hear what your saying somewhat about not being totally taken with the poster. Jake is gorgeous as we all know, but the poster doesn't do him justice. On the other hand, he does look ruggedly handsome in it though.

I have not been fortunate enough yet to see Highway. Jared Leto is quite the cutie as well. Hmm, Jake a drug dealer? That may take a bit to get adjusted to I think. Gosh, what are some of us going to do when/if Jake takes on a role say of a killer, rapist, or child molester?! That will certainly take some adjusting to I think and be a major departure from all his other previous roles.

made Pilot a sorta icon.....(have I had too much chsrdoney? am I blathering)

yey! ((pia)) another adorer(er) of Pilot. Never enough blathering about Pilot, never enough. There are reasons he is my second favourite Jake character and I think you hit on most of them. I like jealous Pilot's pouty face when Jack hooks up with Cassie! :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi everyone! Good to see new comments on both of yesterday's emergency Rendition posts :)

Jantoinette thanks very much for your great comment - another movie buff :) I am a huge fan of extras on DVD myself and have selfishly come to expect them - and so major disappointment with BBM and anticipation for the all singing Zodiac release next year. Jake's DVDs are normally a treat for their extras, especially for commentaries.

Ruby - Pilot is adorable and I think I may well watch that later tonight. It's been a while and I do love his expressive face.

I am truly moved by all your well wishes!!! I feel as if I will be "representing!" LOL! I will probably find a way to post something, but I don't think it will happen before Saturday. I want to share the experience...even if it turns out to be uneventful (Hah. I do have to make sure my daughter doesn't issue a restraining order. She is SO not a fan girl type.Very reserved person. But I love her dearly and she is game for this so we'll be fine!) pia, that French film is truly of it's time and a classic as well! Thank you, Nadine, for the info about women and elephants. I hope there will be no need to put it to use. WDW, I will have my Adidas on. I'm thinking I will carry the stillettos. As I said earlier, at my height, I'm more likely to be aligned with kneecaps! Is this what rappers mean when they talk about "popping a cap?" jantoinette, this book I'm reading is the second one Vachon wrote and it is truly fascinating. It's not very long, but it is packed with great stuff. Her production company has been involved in a really impressive array of film work. Guess that while the other books are very important for basic understanding, and they too are fascinating, if I had to start with anything, this would be the one. I intend to get a hold of her earlier book at some point.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Bobbyanna - thanks for coming back - adidas, hmmmm :( Good to see the book discussion continuing and looking forward to your report!! :)

Hey WDW! I think I've become much more of a movie buff, all because of BBM! You weren't the only one majorily disappointed to find out that there were no deleted scenes or commentary on the BBM DVD. To be honest, for HUGE and popular like the movie was, its somewhat shocking that they wouldn't at least had some commentary on the BBM DVD huh?! I just have an inkling that Focus Features is going to release a Directors Cut or some type of special edition/anniversary BBM DVD sometime....We should do a petition and send it to Focus Features that we want a BBM Directors Cut! LOL

Bobbyanna, just curious, is Rendition the only movie you plan on checking out at the TIFF by any chance? On Christine Vachon's production companies website, there is an excerpt from her book A Killer Life and also a few audio interviews. Her production company has become a well established and well known for making indie films.

Something quite interesting....Vachon will be producing an untitled Rufus Wainwright documentary and Sam Mendes will direct! The doc will showcase Rufus during his re-creation of Judy Garland's Carnegie Hall performance. WDW, I know how much you like Rufus!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Jantoinette! I'll draw hope from your feeling that we may eventually get a special BBM DVD, I'm not so sure myself. But I feel like the studio and us are missing out on something improtant.

I'd heard that about Sam and Rufus. I'd been wondering if Jake had had anything about bringing them together and if Sam had been there that night. Pure speculation of course - it's a small world after all! Oh yes, I love Rufus!
