Time to get the suit out, Jake - Rendition premiere - Toronto, Friday, 7th September

At long last, after a day of hitting the refresh button at the Toronto International Film Festival website, the complete list of films to be shown was published, as well as a schedule for the galas, including that for Rendition. Rendition is to be premiered at 6.30pm on Friday, 7th September. Time for Jake to get out the suit and put the flip flops away...

It looks as likely as it can be when one doesn't really know, that Jake Gyllenhaal will be in attendance, along with Reese Witherspoon and Peter Sarsgaard. Unfortunately Meryl Streep may not be there. But I can see why Jake would want to go - the Toronto Film Festival has treated Jake right over the years and the city has seen some of the triumphs of his young career, including Moonlight Mile, Proof and, of course, Brokeback Mountain.

If you look at the schedule and the galaxy list of stars due to attend, you have to take your hat off to Toronto for turning this into what may be one of the most stellar events of 2007 while, hopefully, achieving a happy compromise between big Hollywood presentations and local or independent films with more frugal budgets.

California Republic

IHeartJake have done us proud again today and uncovered more of the photos taken when Jake visited the Chilmark Store on August 19 in Martha's Vineyard. And now we can see what the lone star is all about - it's the flag of the California Republic. If a Republic could have princes, Jake would be one. And it seems Mark Ruffalo wasn't the only to get a taste for animal crackers during the filming of Zodiac. More pictures at IHJ.

I'm Not There trailer

Unfortunately, even though I'm Not There is due to show at Toronto, Heath Ledger's name was not on the list of expected attendees. But hopefully that is due to an oversight or lack of information. I think we would all like to see a public Jake and Heath reunion, and Ang should be in town too. The trailer has been released for the Bob Dylan biopic which is more than a biopic. You can see the trailer here. I cannot wait to see this film, second only to Rendition.

Includes pictures from IHJ.

Hi WDW,

Thanks for the Toronto info!

I think Jake's lone star t-shirt is James Perse.

Best wishes,

V.

It is a bit mysterious - we have the trailer but no poster yet. Only a few stills and the trailer is shown only in some cinemas with the Bourne Ultimatum. And the official premiere will be in 2,5 weeks. Only one review so far. I really hope the New Line folks are knowing what they are doing and that they are convinced that the film will have a strong effect on the audience.

Toronto is really a good place for Jake. I remember reading a report of someone who had attended one of the Brokeback showings. He said that most of the people did not know what to expect and the reaction when it ended was an absolute silence first. Some people were crying. And they knew they had seen something special. And then they gave standing ovations.
"Rendition" is another kind of film but I hope for the same enthusiastic reactions.

I was not able to see when "I am not there" will be shown but if it is not around the same day as "Rendition" I doubt we will see a Jake and Heath reunion.

Hi Carla Thanks for commenting. I agree with you and I share some of your concern. No poster and very little publicity for the film. We see some things mentioned about it but that's mainly because we seek them out. Reese on the cover of EW this week is a start for publicising the film, but that's about it. And I'm not sure the trailer is being seen widely.

I can just imagine about the effect of seeing BBM not knowing what you were getting. Mind you, that was the same when I first saw it. I had no idea what it was about. All I knew was that it had wonderful scenery and Jake Gyllenhaal was in it - no more than that. The ground was taken from beneath my feet.

The TIFF site is having some trouble this evening - due to interest I'm sure, so I wasn't able to see when I'm Not There is showing either. I doubt we'll see a reunion either, at least not in front of the cameras.

Hi WDW,
I can't check these sites fast enough :)TY for all the TFF information. I've cordoned off a section of my Google page, to keep up with and enjoy the goings on there.
I saw a list of attending guests on another site, but no Heath. Maybe he's still working on TDK. *sigh*

Hi Sass! It could well be that TDK is the reason Heath isn't on the list, but I won't give up hope yet. Thanks for commenting *)

Nice trailer for Im Not There. Its a clever idea: looks like they might pull it off. ! ! !

Ah I love the rest of the pics of Jake that came out. He sure does like sweets it seems...LOL I see peanut M&M's and a ice cream bar too besides the cookie pack.....Yummm Jake is all tan and I love his casual look. I took those pics and blew them up and got a good look...his hair is growing in nicely too thank goodness...LOL He looks so sexy in that first picture!

I do hope that they start promoting the hell out of Rendition and soon. I so want it to have a great showing and lots of buzz to go with it. Now only a few more weeks then lots of Jake pics I am sure! I also hope that they do another trailer for Rendition too...gosh it looks so intense. I can't wait to see it!

^^^ The deleted post was me - I left a crucial word out (blame the Californian Merlot). The word was sexy - it was vital for my comment ;)

Hi positively pia - I really liked this trailer. Normally I'm pretty immune to the charms of Heath but with this film that's all out of the indow - he looks so hot! Did I really say that...? Heath looks enchanting :)

Hi Anon I think Jake looks so (underline 'so') sexy in these pics! I love the scruff, I love the hair, I love the T and I love the rolled up trousers and I even love the feet. Admittedly, this comment has reduced my IQ by 75% but who cares!

However, there is one thing I cannot cope with - peanut M&Ms - Jake, how can you! Those are disgusting!!

I can't wait for Rendition too. Thanks for commenting :)

Hi all,

Wow, the TIFF will be here before we know it! Just imagine being able to attend the screening of Brokeback Mountain there. Talk about tears and ovations. I'm really looking forward to I'm Not There as well as Rendition, WDW.

Yes, I love these pics of our man of summer, love the shirt. Alas, summer will be over soon. And Yay for the (People's) Republic of California (said with the greatest of affection.) :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Marina! Good to see you. I can't imagine what it must have been like at Toronto for BBM. Tears and ovations indeed. I love these summer pic - What a great shirt :)

Good night everyone *)

No complaints out of me for THIS haircut. He is absolutely mouthwatering from his clothes to his toes!

Anonymous said...

Jake looks so delightfully rumpled and sexy in these pictures. Looks like he just "threw something on" in a hurry...(!) and I really like his hair. He is in full vacation mode LOL!!! I am very excited to tell you that my plan at this moment is to go to the film festival. Toronto is four hours away and hopefully, I will be meeting my daughter so we can spend five or six days really enjoying all the offerings. And a red carpet moment! LOL!!!

Xenia said...

Thanks as for all the info WDW, you're precious, as always...:*

I'm really looking forward to see an elegant suited Jake, walking along the red carpet at the TFF, enchanting the audience with his smile...

But I'd take him even all scruffy as in the pics from MV...no way for him to escape...:)

Anonymous said...

Thanks WDW and Stephanie (IHJ) for the new pics of Jake at MV. That T-shirt certainly is quite fetching on Jake indeed. He always looks so good, and yes sexy all the time! I also can't wait to see TIFF looking Jake!

The TIFF is a huge festival and some really big names will be attending this year, gosh. Sean Penn is scheduled to attend (his Into The Wild movie looks great), and I think everyone is eagar to see if he will break the law again this year in Toronto, and light up another cigarette again in the hotel, LOL!

Rendition director Gavin Hood is also scheduled to attend the TIFF along with Jake, Reese, and Peter.

As far as I could tell, the TIFF website hasen't released the date and time for I'm Not There yet. I really hate to say it, and I hope I'm proven wrong but, I have a feeling Heath won't attend the TIFF. Cate Blanchett and Todd Haynes are the only 2 that are scheduled to attend so far from the movie, and I have a feeling they may be the only 2. I do hope I am wrong though, cause I would really like to see Heath attend. I'm also in agreement how great it would be for a Jake and Heath reunion as well! Heath attended the TIFF last year for his small indie film Candy. Like some of you have said, he could be perhaps filming TDK, during TIFF.

True like some of you have mentioned, that its mysterious that we haven't seen a poster released for Rendition yet. I think maybe the studio is being careful how they promote and market it perhaps, because of the subject matter. Unfortunately, I happen to peruse the IMDb Rendition boards, and some arguments and disagreements has started regarding the movie and subject matter.

Ang Lee's movie Lust, Caution is premiering on the same night as Rendition, but at 9 pm.

The I'm Not There trailer looks so intriguing, and Cate looks amazing as Dylan. I agree WDW, Heath does look hot in this, and also in the new stills from INT you posted of him relaxing looking to the side smoking um, er, a joint....There's a good chance we will see a love scene between Heath and Charlotte Gainsbourg who plays his wife. Unfortunately by the sound of things because this is such an unconventional indie film....us the audience, are going to have to work to get to see this in theatres or at a festivals.

Anon - Lucky you! Glad to hear that your going to the TIFF. Really hope you can get to see Rendition and I'm Not There. You'll have to be our TIFF reviewer and give us all the scoops! You'll have to stake out The Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto, where chances are is where Jake will be staying since its the sponsored hotel for TIFF I believe.

Nothing wrong at all with loving the feet, WDW. I really love the rolled-up sleeve, too :)

I'm slightly disappointed Jake isn't working at Pret a Manger after all. Their peeps and James Perse's may need to talk - the star is identical.

Good news about Toronto, I expect that was worth getting RSI for, eh?

Anonymous said...

^^^what's RSI?

KeepCalm+CarryOn said...

Hi WDW and fellow bloggers. First of all,a point of information for "anonymous" (come out, come out, wherever you are!), RSI stands for Repetitive Strain Injury,a painful condition caused by over-repetition of small movements of the same joint or digit...as suffered by WDW after innumerable strikes of the Reresh button to check out the Toronto schedule (I got it often watching "Brokeback", pressing the re-wind and slow motion buttons!).

Thanks for the great Chilmark photos via the wonderful IHJ, WDW,he does indeed look as fit as a butcher's dog and the hair is shaping up nicely, although I was a little perturbed by his look of resignation in shots 8 and 9 of the set. I could be reading it all wrong, but it looked like he was thinking "Ok, so you b*$%*"£$ have got me even here!" Hopefully, if he wants to, he can wallow in obscurity a little longer before Toronto...

..ah,yes Toronto.I don't know, maybe the film company has been using a little reverse psychology here, rather than building up "Rendition" with saturation coverage they have limited publicity to the release of some very juicy stills and an extremely slick and potent trailer - just enough to alert public and critics alike that this could be a powerful must-see movie, keeping people gagging for its release, rather than giving too much away in advance and public interest thereby going off the boil. I'm hoping my attempt at a positive spin on the approach may be fairly accurate and prove to be a wise move.

It's a real shame that Heath isn't a definite for Toronto, or even a probable. It may have something to do with his filming schedule but I get the distinct impression that he and Jake continue to studiously avoid any public appearances together, especially at something as high profile as the TIFF, simply because they know that the media, the gutter press in particular, would have a field day making suggestive, sleazy and salacious remarks about their public reunion. It's bad enough anticipating the press hysteria that's already whipping up about Jake and Reese's alleged liaisons, which may well come to a head in Toronto when they will almost inevitably be on the Red Carpet together etc. I'm feeling bilious already at the prospect...

As for the "I'm Not There" trailer, thanks for that preview, WDW, it looks fantastic! As my husband is a big Dylan fan I might actually persuade him to go and see this at the cinema with me (I usually go to the pictures-quaint British phrase-without him because he works so hard he falls asleep in a warm dark room and would be paying cinema prices for a nap!)

This certainly looks like one of Heath's hotter incarnations. Since "Brokeback" his indefinable sexiness has sort of crept up on me,expecially in his short-haired,not so scruffy, gravelly-voiced manifestations and he is a wonderful chameleon of an actor. I'm interested to hear him sing too, even if it is while adopting another persona. Cate Blanchett's contribution is intriguing me too, she looks so deliciously androgynous in this trailer. What with "Rendition","INT" and "TDK" to look forward to, things are looking up in more than just cinematic terms!

Oh and WDW, if you still have some understandable hangover blues from yesterday's immersion in the complete "Brokeback", Jake carrying peanut M&M's reminded me of a juvenile joke that might make you smile...
Q What would you do if you got a peanut stuck in your ear.
A Pour in some melted chocolate and it'll come out a treat!
(A note for our friends overseas, in Britain Peanut M&M's were once known as "Treats")
And with that chronic snippet of corny "comedy", I'll bid you good-day for now ;-) Nxxx

Thank you Nadine!

Nadine, you are a CLEVER one, and and fit as a butcher's dog (LOVE this! never heard it before!) yourself, in today's post.

Im very interested in seeing interaction between Jake and Reese at the Toronto FF - Jake hasnt let me down, yet, in his public cool.
And he seems to have his own well-being and career and private life in hand.

"Anon 6:29" here!!! I didn't mean to post anonymously, I just hit the button. It was really late. I am SO excited to be going to TIFF again. But I have to tell you. The Sutton Place is the Festival Hotel, (A very old 'historic' looking hotle) but the stars, don't seem stay there. In the past, it seems SP was used for business stuff. To pick up credentials, to use the computer center, etc. I think the major film companies and the distributors use it ("the suits") for convenience, and TIFFG certainly promotes it as such, but most celebs stay at the Four Seasons or some other Four star place nearby. If you check, Heath didn't stay there last year. He stayed in the Metropolitan, or something . And celebs are usually only there one or two nights then out. So it's possible say, for Cate Blanchett to "sleep" in Jake Gyllenhaal's bed...just not when he's there! LOL!!! I am so excited I don't think I will be thinking straight for at least the next 30 days.BTW: Does anyone know how to lose 30 lbs in 14 days???

Anonymous said...

Yeah well, Bobbyanna, speaking of thinking straight - no way -

Oh I'm so puttin' on my top hat
tyin' up my white tie
brushin' off my tails...

and figuring out how I can fit into these, which I dont even have, nor is there any way Im going to Toronto, although apparently I think I am -

go, woman, go!

Xenia said...

I'm so happy you're going to Toronto Bobbyanna!!

We do need an insider!:)

And please report on everything you'll see IN DETAIL!!

When I was there two years ago, there was a spot outside, behind some wooden horses (barriers) where lots of people were allowed to stand at a hotel,,,don't remember the name, it was a newer hotel with a circular drive and an awning and valet parking, etc. Might have been the Pantages? Anyway, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were there getting ready to leave that afternoon, so we stopped to see if we could glimpse them. They were not outside. All of a sudden three huge, black SUVs, pulled up from underground parking right to this single door just a few feet from the revolving main entrance doors, the SUV doors were opened, people raced out that door very quickly, got in, next one pulled up, same thing, etc. They sped away to the airport. It was Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton. And no. No one got even a whisper of a glimpse. Security is really, really tight at most places, so I was feeling very discouraged...until one night I'd gone out for drinks with some friends,& was walking down a side street in downtown Toronto around midnight on a weeknight and literally almost ran smack into Joaquin Phoenix, who is just as good looking in person as he is on screen, and he was very, very sweet, too. We shook hands, and he asked my name! I didn't ask for a photo or an autograph. It seemed not appropriate tho he would have probably signed. That was my last TIFF "adventure."

Hi everyone *) Made it home AT LAST after a commute way longer than Jack Twist's but, admittedly without the coyotes. So very tired but really good to catch up with you all :) And working from home tomorrow.... ;)

Hi Dani - I love that haircut! Our Jake, all grown up ;D

Hey Bobbyanna! When I saw the anon comment I thought that had to be you! How exciting that you've experienced Toronto before, like Jake, and it's given you some lasting memories. I wish you all the luck in the world :D Great hotel info too...

Thanks Xenia! I find it hard sometimes, too, to dcide which Jake does it for me the most - Red Carpet Jake or this sexy, scruffy guy out on the street. I adore both looks so much, but I particularly love the whole movie star thing and Jake has a real glow about him on those occasions. In just two weeks, we'll see him again.

Hi Jantoinette - thanks for that great comment. I agree that it's looking very doubtful about Heath and I was surprised to not be able to find out any more info on I'm Not There at TIFF. This film looks perfect for it and the trailer is extremely intriguing.

It's an interesting comment that the studio may be being careful with publicising Rendition because of the content. They should still want people to go and see it, and hopefully not for the wrong reasons.

Hi Anouska - Good to see you! Yes, the State of California should watch where it takes its flag from...

Nadine - thanks for that great comment! And yes Jake undoubtedly looks as fit as a butcher's dog! Love that expression and never heard it before. It's good to focus on the fact that the limited amount of promotion material for Rendition that we have seen, is so slick andvery carefully thought out and designed.

I do hope there isn't any of that hysteria you mention in Toronto. It would not be good to distract from the film and I hope the studio is going to be careful about this, instead of simply sitting back and enjoying the added publicity.

Like the joke by the way ;)

Hi Positively pia - it's going to be fun to watch. I agree - Jake's going to be supercool.
