The Yankees' lucky mascot - an actor called Jake

Last night was very exciting, as a good friend alerted us to the presence of Jake Gyllenhaal at Boston's Fenway Park, where the Red Sox were playing Jake's team, the Yankees.

As a Brit, I'm not familiar with the etiquette of a baseball match on such a scale, being more used to the tribalism and segregation of a UK football ground. I was informed that the whole Fenway stadium would be for the Red Sox and any Yankees would need to keep quiet or run the risk of having beer chucked at them. So, when I finally turned in last night, I was torn between the desire to wake up today to pictures of Jake at yet another big sporting event and fear that a sodden Yankee Jake would be seen being booted out of the stadium for wearing the wrong cap. But never to fear, outnumbered Jake did his part for his team, just by being there, and the Yankees beat the Red Sox 8-7.

It turns out Jake was glimpsed sitting in the monster seats - so-called, apparently, because of a green monster on which there are some VIP seats. Presumably a safe haven for Yankee-supporting movie stars. This might explain Jake's wonderful expression. What a week Jake's had - film premiere amid adulation, the US Open Final and now this game - whatever is next, you can bet Jake has good seats.

I would like to thank UV for the excitement of last night's tip, and Ruby and Anouska for their wonderful company today - not to mention the cosmopolitans - in the Big Smoke. You can also blame them for the late post.

Sweet dreams, guys!

What an unexpected treat this was, having Jake at Fenway! So, needless to say, I turned on the television immediately! :)

I missed when the cameras panned to the Monster seats and showed Jake (damn!), but this pic makes up for it. I'll treasure this one, as a long-suffering Red Sox fan (since they won the World Series in 2004, in my lifetime, my suffering has ended!), and having Jake there is great. He did bring luck to the Yankees; it was a very painful last few innings, but at least Jake was there.

These shirtless baseball pics are some of my favorites too!

Night! :)

Oh that smile, that beautiful smile! Thanks for the pics, WDW!

Marina, I agree, Jake brought luck to the Yankees. And just think - you'll have those good Jake vibes in your stadium forever. They could probably charge more for that seat now. :-)

I'm starting to think that home for Jake is just a place to hang his hat. He's always on the move. And don't we have fun keeping up with him. :-)

I like this thought, Neely. It is fun to keep up with Jake's travels, and restaurants! ;)

Thanks for the pics WDW! One can never get tired of seeing the pics of shirtless Jake playing baseball. Jake certainly is the jetsetter these days indeed.

Hopefully, we will soon be able to look forward to all of Jake's TV appearances to promote Rendition. I would love to see him do the Ellen show. He was just SO adorable the time he phoned Ellen on her birthday and kept phoning back. Wonder if she'll try to get him to take his shirt off again, LOL.

Hi Marina - it sounds like the end of the game was very exciting and I'm glad Jake being there made up for the result :)

Hey Neely - He's always on the move. And don't we have fun keeping up with him. :-) - This is so true! Jake's a great guide.

Hi Jantoinette - I really do hope Jake does the circuit again; I think he's overdue an Ellen show and I will always be grateful to Ellen for her ability to get Jake to derobe ;)

LOL!! Glad you had a chance to hang out with your JakePosse! WDW. And thank you for posting what has to be one of my favorite series of Jake pics. I LOVE BaseballJake!!! Green shorts never looked so good!

I saw Margot at the Wedding in Toronto. The actors all did a good job. Nicole, Jack Black and Jennifer Jason Leigh. But for some reason, the story did not engage. And it ended strangely, IMHO. It got off to a great start, tho, and for two thirds of it, I was patiently waiting for "something."
I'm happy to see Jake and Noah visiting. But I want Jake to do a film project with some real substance. Jake has spoiled me. I don't want to think of him in some art house, introspective project that will only open in ten theatres and then go to video. With a very limited budget. Of course I'll see Jake in whatever, but I want him to keep moving forward. Altho, why I am even concerned, is foolish. Jake always ends up making good decisions about his film projects. I just hope he makes one really, really soon.

Hi Bobbyanna - that's interesting waht you say about the film not engaging. I don't want Jake to be in an arthouse movie either - I still want him to do a larger picture with him at the centre of it. But, as you say, Jake makes the right decisions.
