Rendition Day here at last! For all those who are able to see it, I hope you have an amazing time.
This morning Jake Gyllenhaal briefly appeared on the UK's breakfast show GMTV. It was a case of blink and you'll miss it and also a case of, well maybe I should have blinked it and missed it. It provides a perfect contrast to the delightful Alison's interview and shows how polite but chilly Jake can be with interviewers who refuse to focus on the matter at hand - ie Rendition. Thanks to Twisted Logic, WDWTL Productions is pleased (if that's the right word in this case) to bring you the clip here.
While we're mentioning Alison and This Morning, I had these little beauties waiting for me in my inbox today (thanks TL!) - and yes, I can now agree that it was a kiss on the cheek. I still wouldn't say no.
In stark contrast, the Ellen Show was an absolute masterpiece and was a treat of the highest order after the emotional experience of Rendition. Did I really see Jake cook Starbursts? Are sauteed Starbursts a delicacy in the US, or just in California? There was nothing to dislike on that show (except I wanted to see Jake cook for an hour or more), it was all good. Highlights had to be Jake's flexible mantra, wearing a t-shirt so he wouldn't have buttons to undo - although kindly reaching for his belt instead, the flick of the pan and the two-handed grip of the wineglass - definitely a man after my own heart. I was able to enjoy Ellen thanks to the efforts of IHJ - thank you!
Little Red Riding Hood
There was a funny little Q&A exchange in the Washington Post this week. This not only allows me to revise Jake's favourite tipple, but it also provides another glimpse into Jake's musical tastes - a favourite subject of mine. Arcade Fire, Kanye West and Rufus all have pride of place in my playlists, but Bruce Springsteen? That is one step I cannot take. I must add that I have frequently regretted the passing of Mork and Mindy. Heath's Venice outfit slightly reminded me of Mork. As for Little Red Riding Hood, I can just see it.
"Last great book read: "The Known World," by Edward P. Jones.
On his iPod: Arcade Fire, Kanye West, Rufus Wainwright, Bruce Springsteen.
Movie that never gets old: "Major League."
All-time favorite "Saturday Night Live" sketch: "Okay, give me a second, and this pause is important. 'Toonces the Cat Who Can Drive.' Look it up." (Hint: It's a Steve Martin-Victoria Jackson bit.)
Drink of choice: Stella Artois.
Favorite place on Earth: The cliffs of Gay Head near Martha's Vineyard.
TV show he won't miss: "I don't really watch that much TV. Okay, okay, 'Mork & Mindy.' "
On the family act: "We just did 'Into the Woods' at the family reunion. Peter [Sarsgaard] played the wolf, and I played Little Red Riding Hood. It's always really intense but really moving. . . . We all cry at the end. When we sang that number, 'No One Is Alone,' it really got me. 'Cause Peter has a beautiful voice -- I don't know if you know that about him."
Peter's Rendition surprise
Wolf Peter has been discussing more about his role in Rendition and I found it interesting to hear that Peter hadn't seen the film before Toronto. This was the first time that he saw his scenes and his storyline in the wider context and he found it a little troubling:
'Sarsgaard shot his scenes first, in a brisk 2 1/2 weeks, and he never traveled to Morocco, where the bulk of filming took place. "To be honest, when I saw the movie at Toronto, I had never realized how graphic it was going to be, and I thought, 'Oh, people are definitely going to hate my character now."'
Jake cheers Reese up
Reese has been doing her fair share of publicity for Rendition as well during the last week and I hope to catch up on some of that. In the meantime, I read an interview in which Reese revealed that Jake has been doing a good job of cheering her up through recent troubles by making her laugh.
'Recently Reese has been seen out with Gyllenhaal, although she denies there is any romance between them“I have known Jake for years through different friends and he is just wonderful,” says Reese. “He’s very kind, generous and funny. It’s been nice these past days to laugh a little bit. Yeah, he’s great and I look forward to maybe making another film with him.”'
'I shook Jake Gyllenhaal's hand'
This is the title of a captivating video in which a young waiter describes what it was like when his idol Jake Gyllenhaal visited his restaurant. I enjoyed this video not only for the charming and kind picture it presents of Jake offduty but also for the waiter's sheer joy at being able to shake Jake's hand, telling him what a big fan he is, and for his pride in having this passion for Jake. There's no intrusion here, no videos, no photos, just a guy sitting there, wanting to share with anyone who'll listen, his joy at seeing Jake. Love to a good friend who also saw this video, loved it and shared it with me.
And finally...
... if this turns out to be true.... I can't even express how abhorrent I find the idea of a Brokeback Sequel.
ENJOY THE FILM!

Oh WDW, if you knew how much I yearn to see Ellen ... Oh, you do know :D
Yep, no nasty Brokeback sequel, evah, thank you.
Hey Anouska - yep, I did know that ;) I could always play it down the phone to you like Conan!
G'morning, darlin' people! - lovely column today WDW! Ive watched the Ellen show about ten times. I absolutely cant think straight when it comes to Jake, I am so captivated and doting upon him.
And so the music goes on and on - and the guy who trembles with joy and deligeht and says "My Jakey!" -is MOI ! ! !
Just sayin' - New York Times review of Rendition this morning is not bad. Will be interested in what y'all think.
See you later!
Morning Positively Pia - thanks so much again for my postal treat - it's going to Roma with me :) I'm going to watch Ellen again right now. I'm saving all these reviews. Good to hear the NYT one is good.
I didnt say good, WDW I said not bad. Salon.com less accomodating; -

Im SO pleased you received package before leaving for the holy city.
(wags tail)

Ohhhh my God, Ellen was fantastic! Thank you so much WDW and IHJ for providing us with these clips, this week has been amazing with all the videos!
I also wanted to watch Jake cook forever. I love how you can totally see how much Ellen adores him too.
Oh well Pia - I must have got up on the sunny side of the bed today :)
Good to see yu again Littlemisslurker - I just watched Ellen again - just fabulous... I must buy some starbursts.
Off to see Rendition again - see you all later :)
Rendition day in the US, countdown starts now. I was left a beautiful gift on my work desk today, pictures of Jake that said I love you. My co-workers finally caught on to me...how could they not I was always watching or reading Jake something. It was a nice little surprise. I'm with you WDW, not a Bruce fan myself but, Peter does have the most incredible voice.
Jake was fantastic on Ellen and he couldn't be more sexy. Seriously. :)
Ellen telling him to be careful with the knife and not letting him open the fridge before time started...LOL! :D
Arrivederci a Roma WDW! :)
I have to think the reason he has both Bruce AND Arcade Fire on his iPod might have to do with the recent live musical collaborations of the two.
Bruce and Arcade Fire live
Have fun in Rome! Can't wait to hear all about it.
Has anyone ever had Stella Artois beer? I admit that while watching Ellen and seeing them drink white wine I grabbed a bottle of my own and had a few glasses...it looked too enticing.
Good luck in Rome...have a safe trip, we're eager to here all about it...wishing I was there too!!
Hi there WDW,
I know you will have a fantastic time in Rome. I couldn't believe my luck this morning; after a night of insomnia searching all Rendition review sites as well as all mega review sites, I stumble upon that same fun Jake WAPO article, and a positive Jake acting review. Seems some reviewers are not as entranced with our film as our friends across the pond.
I'll Google some Stella Artois locations later today; I have to sample it later tonight after Rendition.
You've made this the most fun Jake week I've ever had.
*Sass is spreading Jake love anywhere and everywhere*
I had a free pass yesterday to see American Gangster--press preview-- so I introduced myself to others in line as a Geriatric Gyllengal. We had a great time laughing and talking about Jake-- isn't he adorable-- Gyllenhaal.
NO Brokeback sequel PLEASE!
Again enjoy Rome:)
I am not a beer connoisseur by any means, but I do like Stella.
Have a great time in Rome, WDW! Thanks so much for making me jealous -- again. LOL I'm hoping you get an autograph on your copy of Interview -- and I can believe Jake's DNA and mine are commingling there. Is that nuts or what?
Sass, I agree I think Rendition isn't being viewed the same here as in the UK. All the reviews here have been less than kind unfortunately, hopefully it will prove itself worthy. Won't stop me. I always love finding someone that likes to talk about Jake, it's always refreshing.
Happy Rendition Film Opening Day, all -
In a few hours I will be seeing what sounds like a wonderful film for myself. I plan on having plenty to say about it, as usual. ;)
Brokeback Mountain sequel? Uh . . . no thanks. :)
I'm not much of a beer connoisseur either, but I do like to try certain ones once in awhile, British and German beers, and of course my Guinness. ;)
Have a wonderful time in Rome, WDW, safe trip! :*
Did anyone get the name of the restaurant in NY from the guy on the video who shook Jakes hand?
I think he's been a Springsteen fan for a while. Wasn't a magazine with The Boss on the cover his prop of choice when doing 'This Is our Youth'? Ain't nothing wrong with a bit of classic Americana!
And Jake drinking wine. Heaven!
Hi everyone! I heard a great review this morning on our local Fox channel KMSP 9, by Jason Matheson, who is an entertainment reporter and film critic for the station.
He says:
"What can I say about “Renditon” other than…fantastic. It’s smart, intriguing, intense and best of all, it will make you think, both while you’re watching the brutality on the screen, but also… I almost guarantee this movie will spark some interesting conversation on the drive home. I had one myself.
Jake Gyllenhaal scores a home run with this one, a very understated performance but when he needs to turn it on, he does. Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep are both superb, just like this movie.
If you’re looking for a great, great grown-up movie, this is it. Pulling out the big report card, I give “Rendition” an A."
Yay! I think Jake would like the "home run" part. :)
I've loved reading all of the reviews posted here so far, and plan to do the same.
OK, I'm off to see it shortly and will be gone for the rest of the day, but I can't wait to get back here.
Happy movie day!
Hi everybody!
Thanks for all these wonderful comments - just the thing a girl needs when she gets back from seeing Rendition again :) Having just heard Twisted Logic's reaction to the film, I think we may have to start a Rendition Self-Help Group....
Hey CWG - hope you're having a great Rendition Day - the Jake pictures were such a nice touch :D Oh yes - I'm a big fan of Stella, although to be fair there aren't many beers I don't like ;)
Hi Beckela - Rome is going to be amazing - I don't think it's sunk in yet. I just spoke to the hotel and they're arranging a limo to pick me up! So I'm doing it in style :D
Hi Felicia - I didn't know about that collaboration - interesting.
Thanks Sass! I hope you enjoy the Stella. I'm going to have to make do with Corona for the time being :D Gyllengal - LOVE THAT!!
Xenia - Jake and Reese apparently are already in Rome! They arrived this morning. So exciting!
Hi Marina - A Guiness girl eh? I did a tour of Ireland once especially to find a good handpulled pint of the dark stuff.
Bmg - that's true. Didn't Jake perform Born in the USA as a kid at a Gyllenparty? So legend has it. And I love to see Jake drinking wine :) I'm sure he'll enjoy some Italian reds over the next few days.
Thanks for sharing that excellent review Neely - I just cannot understand why anyone would have anything bad to say about this film?
Hi everyone! Well, I've just got back from seeing Rendition, haven't read today's post yet or any comments cos I still haven't recovered yet and I don't think I can take it in. Although I'm a lot more calm and coherent than I was when I came out of the cinema a couple of hours ago (apologies to WDW for the rambling "message" I left on your answerphone). I won't say too much about Rendition so as not to spoil it for anyone, but trust me when I say that everything WDW has said about it here over the last few weeks is 100% true. And then some... The last time I watched a film that left me feeling the same mixture of numbness and shock and sense of being completely overwhelmed was when I watched BBM for the first time. That's not to compare Rendition and BBM, cos they're chalk and cheese and it would be unfair to both films, but they both had a very similar impact on me. I cannot praise this film highly enough, it totally blew me away.
And Jake...well, what can I say? I was a little bit worried that after being so overwhelmed by the charm, wit, humour and general adorableness we've seen from him as Jake over the last week, that I would find it hard to forget all that and just see him as Douglas. Well, shame on me, and I really should know better by now, because from the moment I got my first glimpse of him as Douglas, lying shirtless and sweaty in the bed *droolx1000* all thoughts of Jake Gyllenhaal disappeared from my mind, and all I could see was Douglas Freeman. Jake disappears into the charcater, like he did the first time I saw him as Jack Twist and every other character he's played before and since. It's a very subtle and understated performance, as people have already said, but all the more effective for it, and I'm looking forward to seeing Rendition several more times so I can appreciate it more fully.
Anyway, this was meant to be a short comment...
Go and see Rendition, if you haven't already. It's been less than 3 hours for me and I can't wait to see it again.
Less than an hour away to see my first Rendition, yeyyyyy. BTW WDW I'm not sad anymore ;P
thank you Twisted Logic! more! when you have recovered.
Jake is in Rome now! I love it. And our intrepid reporter will soon be there! Will be sending loveletters to Roma all weekend -
It has been such a fantastic week -
a visit from a friend this morning who has had no idea why my pssaionte interest in Jake - but she's been watching him all week. "Oh." Says she can't take her eyes off him.
A force of nature! Bless his travelin' heart! & yours, WDW.
Twisted Logic - I'm not at all surprised you were affected so deeply and I was just sorry I wasn't around to take your call (being in Rendition myself at the time!). It is incredible how Jake is so different in all these roles and he really did seem like Douglas to me - except in two scenes when I allowed myself to think that it was all Jake:)
Hey CWG - Glad you're not sad anymore - enjoy the film!
Pia - I'll take your love with me to the Eternal City and try very hard to send it in Jake's direction for you. I hope a lot of people have been won over to Jake this week - he's been extraordinary.
My mum just phoned to say that Rendition and Jake wee given an excellent review in her paper today (Express)
Hey, WDw! No need to apologise, hun, I knew you were watvching Rendition and wouldn't be able to answer, but it was either your answerphone or accosting the nearest stranger and risking arrest/commitment to a mental institution!
Pia, don't worry, I could (and will) talk for England about Rendition. Briiliant film. Look forward to reading your thoughts too :)
Thank you for this wonderful site...my fav Jake site now! You have everything, and it's up-to-date, it's easy to click on all the great links, and you have intelligent commentary. I've been enjoying it very much!
XO, Melby (from dcf)
WDW, I will definitely hold you to that 'phone call tonight!
I can only stay for a minute now, frustrating as it is to be unable to read this post and your comments straight away.
Just had to come here straight from seeing "Rendition" to say that WDW,Bobbyanna, everyone who has seen it before today have not been over-selling it.
It is a brilliant, shocking and moving film, with fabulous performances from the whole ensemble cast,Omar Metwally blew me away and Jake...well I can't come up with enough superlatives at the moment. Hope I can get back to try again later...
Welcome Melby - so glad to see you here :) And I am so happy that you love the site. I am so grateful to everyone here that makes it what it is *)
Shell shocked Nadine - I hope you're OK now - this film has an incredible impact as people here are discovering. Thanks for your email earlier. I'm comforted other people have been as affected by Rendition as I have. It had a profound affect on me last night.
I've just seen Rendition.....and I can't praise it highly enough...all the positive things that have been said here are true!!!!!!! It's a great film...and Jake is truly superb. I hope they remember this performance at Oscar time...
Ellen was so fantastic, Jake in a kitchen is to die for, and I loved that waiter vid....Jake was so sweet to him...sigh...
Thanks to WDWTL productions for the links too...and WDW enjoy your Rome experience!
Great recap of everything. About the sequel to BBM, it sounds bogus to me, I don't know, the red flag is the summer of '63 thing, as it would have to be around '83, but could have been a mistake. Anyways, Ennis without Jack doesn't excite me at all...
Hi there WDW!
I know you're excited. What's up with the Rome press; I want Pictures. I subscribe to Wireimage. Maybe, just maybe, we'll get lucky tomorrow.
I wonder if Jake is as fond of Bruce Springsteen's version of Philadelphia as I am. Bruce won an Oscar for it in 1993 and Tom Hanks won an Oscar for Best Actor.
Have fun:)
sass
hey, WDW! Not much time for comments at the moment as you know, but I am reading. I just got back from seeing Rendition. Will tell you my thoughts when I see you (It has almost the best opening shot of Jake in a movie ;D)
Have fun in Rome.
Brokeback sequel? no thanks.
Thanks TL for the You Tubing. Good work there.
