Jake has shaved!.. or has he?

I think this calls for an emergency post - The good news is that there are new pictures this morning which show that Jake has taken pity on his army of Gyllenhaalics and shaved. It's almost like a huge collective sigh of relief. But maybe it should be sucked back up again. There is a debate going on that maybe these new pictures are not new at all and instead date from earlier this year. I do love a puzzle, especially a Gyllenigma.

The pictures were apparently taken on 2 November and show Jake arriving at LA's Staples Center for a basketball game. There was a game on 2 November, between the Clippers and the Warriors, but we all know Jake is a Lakers fan. Jake's hair looks a little longer at the back than it has done recently, but he's wearing a hat and that can make a difference, and it looks identical at the sides. And then there's the shoes and the shoes Jake is wearing here are the same ones he has been wearing in recent days and are not ones, to my knowledge, that he wore earlier in the year. The trousers look like the recent ones too.

I'm going to stick my neck out here (feel free to mock me if I'm wrong) and say that I think these are new pictures and Jake has shaved. If he needs a beard in a few weeks for Brothers, he can grow it in a matter of days. I suspect we won't know the answer to this puzzle until we have new pictures, which, quite possibly, will show Jake as hairy as ever! Have a great Sunday everyone and I'll be back later.

Pictures from IHJ.

So what do you think? Am I wrong? Does it matter, because Jake looks delicious with or without the beard?

Have a great Sunday :D

I'm with you, WDW, and think they are new. A basketball fan is a basketball fan (just ask my other half!) Jake may enjoy givin' people somethin' to guess about, with that devilish sense of humor he has! He's our enigma, that's for sure! ;) You have a great Sunday, too.

It's a mystery really, but, I think these pics are possibly old. He specifically said he needed a beard for his character who was in jail for 3 years, unless of course the script changed. Anything can happen in Hollywood.

maybe he got tired of the beard himself. maybe it was scratchy. He must have gotten a start date for filming Brothers and maybe the director told him if he shaves and they need him to have a beard again the makeup people can take care of making it fuller if need be. But from what I've seen of Jake and his facial hair (drooling about that face) he is one of those 5 o'clock shadow guys. His facial hair grows back very quickly.

Heath is the one who has a problem growing full facial hair. He had to have a beard put on him for the Ned Kelly movie

I'm thinking new, the shoes seem to confirm it. Jake's Olympic gold medalist standard at quick beard/hair growing, so he can grow one back pretty quick, maybe the beard was for some prefilming stuff, wardrobe etc (if that's what they do in film land, have no real idea)

The feiend he's with is the same one from the Borders Bookstore. Jake a Clippers fan. Maybe he just likes the Staples Center, considering how many events he's gone to there (U2, Lakers, Clippers...). Yeah, Jake's a Staples Center fan, he likes the Staples Office Supply Store. OMG Jake loves staples. Or staplers. OMG He's trying to tell us something.

At least he's not always going to Petco Park (the name of the sports stadium in San Diego, how stupid, huh?).

Anonymous said...

Oh hey, here's an idea: Someone gave him tickets to the game. Being a fan of the sport and not wanting to appear ill-mannered, he took them.

The friend isn't the same friend from the bookstore. Honestly. Some people. A new male friend pops up and automatically it has to be connected to something else? How about...Jake has friends, acquaintances AND associates.

These are definitely new pics. I don't know what all the fuss is about. As Kate pointed out, if Jake needs to grow a full beard for the film, he can practically do it overnight.

The guy with Jake is the *shorter* guy in the bookstore pics, who I think of as Austin's Chris (at least there are pics of him and Austin together when they were a lot younger, kind of high-school age).

Per our convo, that's the best ID I can manage, WDW :) I don't know if these are current pics? Hope so because I love Jake without the beard.

Hope you are enjoying your day*

Nothing for me, WDW? :D :D

Hi everyone :) Hope you're having a great Sunday. I certainly have as it's been spent in the presence of a bunch of Brokies/Jakers. Thank you, friends, for your company *)

Thanks for your comments, I was so keen to get home and see what you think.

Marina - thanks for your basketball perspective. Jake just likes sports, doesn't seem to matter who's playing. Hope your Sunday is good :)

Hey CWG - I'm not won over by the needing the beard for Brothers argument. I think Jake may well have needed the beard for prepping for the movie but now they're about to begin, who knows? And Jake can grow that beard in just a few days. Mr WDW can get a full beard in only 3 or 4 days, I think Jake could too.

So yes, I agree Anon 13:51. And maybe it just got too botheresome or boring.

Anon 15:23 - I agree that the beard would have been part of the preparation. The shoes are definitely the ones Jake's been wearing in recent photos.

Hey Paperclip - so maybe Jake likes stationery :) Jake definitely likes attending events at Staples.

15:30 Petco Park? I don't get the names of these stadiums at all.

Hi Felicia - Glad you agree these are new pics. I'm not sure about the guy, he does look similar to the bookshop guy. I agree, Jake can grown a beard in the time it takes most of us to eat dinner :)

Hey Anouska - had a fabulous day, thanks! Hope you did *) I hope they're new pics too. I still think they are.

Anouska, we've got that posting at the same time thing going on... :)

Quite a feat WDW, given I have about 5p left :) *

Anouska - you need to be set up with proper access to Jakeland :D

Better late than never: I say new. The shoes, the trousers... he can pluck any cap off a shelf.

As for the beard - it's likely the production team for "Brothers" needed him with a beard these last few weeks for fittings and wardrobe stills. Until shooting actually starts it's quite likely he was 'allowed' to shave it off now that fitting and pre-production are over. Of course, in the end, I know nothing for certain, but I'm not surprised to see him without the scruff. As people have pointed out, he can practically grow the full beard back in a day or two.

Anyway - I like him so much looking like this.

Oh I do like a good Jake debate! Not that I can add much to it though, I have absolutely NO idea if these are old or new pics, but I do know that they are gorgeous, so does that count? I do prefer him without the beard, but I don't understand that if it was for Brothers, why he's shaved it off so quickly, do we know if he's even started filming yet? What was the point of having one if he could just grow one again in a few days...oh the mystery of beard-growing, which I know nothing about either!!

I really don't know that much, actually.

Oh I had a Jake moment today. I was in the care and "Crazy" came on the radio....it got to the "does that make me Crazy" chorus and I swore I could hear Jake singing it on Conan!! I was smiling dreamily to myself, luckily I wasn't driving.

Glad you had a good Sunday, WDW, with fellow Jakers and Brokies. Sounds perfect to me.

I'm going to stick my neck out with you WDW and say I think they are new too..because of the trousers and shoes. And I do love him without it. Oh what am I saying? I love him with it too..sigh.

And Christie, I agree about Jake songs. I heard Night Fever a couple of weeks ago..and thought of Jake straight away! Jeesh, so many things make me think of Jake..

I hope you really enjoyed your day WDW!

Hi ~elfie - I definitely agree - new. Also the fact that he needed the beard so early on in the Brothers project sugests to me that he needed it for the prep for the film, that stage of which is quite possibly over now. I love him so much like this too. Always so good to hear from you, elfie *)

Hey Christie - that view definitely counts - certainly gorgeous! And I love those song moments which remind us of Jake. I loved Crazy before but now it's all about Jake to me.

Hi Rosie! I love Jake with or without the beard but it is so good to see that beautiful face again. I had a wonderful day, thanks. We tried to focus on Brokie business but I'm proud to say that Jake was never far away :D

I was just thinking the same thing WDW, possibly the use of the beard thing is over by now, early filming requirement. I too love him beardless, his face is to beautiful to hide behind anything.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi CWG - I agree, and the beard can come back any time when required. But how different Jake looks without it!

For the first time in such a long time I've had to delete a couple of comments - insults against anyone posting here will not be tolerated. This is not what WDW is about and if you don't know that by now - well now you do.

Hi WDW:)
I love the new Jake with no beard pics too:) I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw those pictures early this morning.
Like most of us here, I think Jake can regrow his beard in a few days, so I have to concur, he must have needed it for Pre-production, and will grow it back when they're ready to film.
I took my son to see Rendition this afternoon. He was very impressed with Jake's acting...not my influence there thank you:)
I may spend another pm with this movie before it's pulled. I want to give Jake's movies as much support as I can, and I can do that with this movie, because it's well made, well acted, and comes with superior directing by Gavin Hood. Like Ebert, I hope Gavin will not be swallowed up, by our big money Hollywood Blockbusters.
