The black carpet - Maggie and Heath and the cast of The Dark Knight

Last night, at long, long last, the premiere of The Dark Knight took place in New York City at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square IMAX screen. And there was no mistaking who was the belle of the ball - Maggie Gyllenhaal looked absolutely stunning and Peter Sarsgaard could do nothing but glow with pride. Absent in many ways, but not in all, from the black carpet was Heath Ledger whose presence was clearly felt and who was represented by his family who entered the theatre quietly. For memories of the man, the actor and the Joker, please read this.

And finally...

Another picture from Paris of one Jake Gyllenhaal...

Includes pictures from JoBlo, Contact Music and Pop Sugar.

Hi Nicole - Maggie looks simply stunning. I love the dress. You're lucky - we still have another couple of weeks to wait over here :D Can't wait though.

Is it safe to post again?

Maggie looks great. Tough time for all of them but they've handled it very classily. Must be a relief when the interviews will be over.

It's safe Narcissa - thanks for posting :) I have yet to read up completely about the premiere but it all sounds like an extremely classy event and something they should all be proud of. This is going to be quite an affair for the cast, but I hope fun too, and definitely glamorous.

A new post! Great!

Maggie looks great, she has an amazing body and she looks happy too. Her partner, Peter, seems to be a really nice guy. :)

I wonder what Heath would have worn to the premiere. Probably something unusual. :)

And Jake smiling again. Great to see him happy. So many pictures of them in Paris.

Thanks WDW. :)

Hi Sandy! Oh yes, Peter's a lovely guy :) I think Heath would have worn something really striking and extremely fun.

"I think Heath would have worn something really striking and extremely fun."

And peoople who would have seen the outfit would wonder why he would wear something like that. That's how it used to be. I often found it so amusing reading comments, people commenting about his outfits wondering what the heck he's wearing.

I'm stupid forgot to add it's me Sandy at 0:34.

Maggie's looking very beautiful, the gown is perfect for her and so is Peter.

That fifth picture down from the top is one of the loveliest I've ever seen of Maggie. Very flattering dress, hair and pose.

She is stunning in the fifth picture down, yes - glamour thy name is Maggie G.

I also love number four, she is as gorgeous in profile, laughing, as her brother.

Sorry if I was rude earlier, Joeann, I felt caught in a nightmare.

Maggie has her hair up the way Audrey Hepburn used to have it. A very elegant look. From some angles her face makes me think of Judy Garland as well. It's clear that she could have a variety of looks, all of them striking.

Not to worry, Pia. It's all good. It wasn't my intent to throw gasoline on the fire or patronize you or anyone else with the term kittehs, either. I tend to use it often with completely friendly and disarming intentions when chatting online. (It's from Cuteoverload.com, a site I visit--when not Jaking--far more often than any sane person probably should.)

Not pertaining specifically to today's brouhaha, personally, I wish fandom would adopt a labeling system, a way of universally signaling the lack of ill intent, for comments and observations on blogs and forums that allows for neutrality. Some comments are neither gushes nor bashes. Lots of flame wars and hurt feelings and mis-communications could be avoided and more folks would probably visit.

Back on topic, in that last pic, Smiling!Jake makes me wonder what he thinks about all those paps.

I think would have worn a dark suit and shirt with no tie and his old shoes. I don't think he would have dressed eccentric or clownish for this one. I don't know why, I just think for this one, since he's The Joker, he'd have dressed coventional, opposite of his character. And he'd have wanted to look real proud for his family. They would have been at the premiere. I am glad Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber went.
I love Maggie. Love her dress. You know they are heartbroken. It comes thru.

Good morning everyone! What a night, and that's just the veggie burger (Jake's special diet ;D), chocolate fondant and margaritas :)

Morning Sandy! Peter and Maggie look amazing, I love seeing pics of them together and big events.

Hi Pia :D I'd love to see these shows but unfortunately I have to reply on someone uploading them. I hope you enjoy them and I hope I get to hear about them!

Hi Paul - I sometimes think Maggie looks at her most beautiful when she looks more classic, like this.

Morning JoeAnn :D Good to see you!.

Hi Anon, thanks for the lovely comment :) I think it showed too.

and so it begins: carpets with Heath-shaped holes in them. :(. I hope Christian and the others enjoy the ride as they should, despite some sadness.

Maggie's dress is gorgeous.

Suddenly I feel so incredubly sad again. Will I ever get used to him being gone? :(

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Ruby - I hope they enjoy the experience too - a huge thing.

Hey there Zodiac - so many mixed feelings.

I do admire how dignified it has all been so far. I just can't wait to see it myself.

Morning WDW from the Big Apple:),
Maggie IS stunning in that dress.
Maggie and Aaron are on The Today show talking about the movie and how much they miss Heath. Can't wait til Saturday. Matt Lauer told them loved the movie. *big grin*
back soon

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Sass! Thanks for that. I hope someone captures it for us over the pond :D It sounds great! If you can remember anything of what Maggie says, do let us know :)

Anonymous said...

Hey, SASS! And I hope somebody captures the interviews for us guys without TV. Links anybody?

Joeann, ITA about wishing everybody didnt have such diff'rent startle points on blogs and forums and, actually, real life, too, come to think of it.

Regarding Jake's present gorgeousness, I may mourn that my own personal fantasy Jake is well outta the nest by now, but it's great to have friends suddenly take notice of him with "WOW is that man good looking!"

oh, hey everypeeps. another gorgeous July day in the beautiful Berkshires of Western Massachusetts USA.

TDK opening only at the large Multiplex, midnight show on Thursday. Other theatres are keeping weekend schedules mum. curious. Im not going to the Multiplex because the sound system is terrible.

I don't know that I've ever seen Maggie look more radiant - that dress is just beautiful. Love seeing Gary Oldman too, one of my favorite actors, and I like Christian's shorter hair. Just a few more days now until I can see TDK for myself. :)

I was just admiring the premiere pics again, and I can see that in some everyone is doing their best to be brave - it's such a difficult time. Maybe it's just me projecting. I wish he could know how well received his performance has been. I like the discussions about what Heath might have worn to the premiere; it feels better to think about that. :)

Anonymous said...

I just want to say, that in my heart, I believe Heath was there, and Heath knows how excited people are, and how well received his performance is. I think he is delighted with the reaction.

I have a question. Heath will very likely receive nominations for his performance. BAFTA, Golden Globe, SAG, Oscar. There are rules for which category he can be nominated in, such as screen time, or number of lines, etc. There might be other criteria as well.

But why is it that people mention Heath as supporting? Why couldn't they nominate him as best actor in a leading role. He wasn't Batman, but he had a leading role.

Michael Caine Maggie, Aaron Eckhart, Gary Oldman are obviously supporting, but he and Christian Bale are both leads.

I would just hate for Heath and Jake to both get nominated in competition against each other in the supporting category. There have been some early screenings of Brothers and the feedback is very positive for the movie and especially for Jake, as usual.

I am not an eccentric person so I hope you won't think my comments and questions are strange.

Ruby said...

Hi Anon, you are no more eccentric than the rest of us, I'm sure. ;-) I like your comment.

I'm not that keen on awards anyway, but the acting categories in particular do seem rather random and inflexible to me.

KeepCalm+CarryOn said...

Well if your comments are strange,Anon 17.46 then I'm strange too because I agree with them all :-)

My vision's still blurry and I'm swallowing a lump having just read that great Heath article you linked to in the post,WDW. Gary Oldman and Christian Bale's final comments just about did me in. A sweet kid indeed - and indeed he has left a space no-one can ever fill - a Heath-shaped hole, as Ruby so beautifully put it.

Maggie looks so effortlessly, ethereally beautiful in these pictures and all the cast conducted themselves with such dignity and obvious affection, respect and admiration for their departed friend and co-star.

I've just booked my ticket for "TDK". It's showing a day earlier than the stated national release date at my local cinema - well if you call 15 miles away local, but then I am a hick from the sticks ;-) So I have a date with Heath in a darkened cinema at 1p.m. next Thursday afternoon. I feel shivery at the thought. I can't wait to see his much praised bravura performance...but I'm expecting/dreading a certain emptiness once it's over :-(

Hi there everyone! I'm back home, relaxing with a bottle of wine, thinking about Heath, watching bits and pieces about The Dark Knight and looking at pictures of Jake - all good, all emotional and it's only Wednesday....

Hi there Pia - I just put the Today Show interview up in the new post - it's so good. I hope we get The Late show tomorrow. It is true about Jake's present (and ever and always - not at all biased...) gorgeousness is attracting the attention of the unsuspecting general public. They won't stand a chance with PoP!

I agree, BK, Maggie looks just so wonderful. She looks so good when dressed classically and almost simply like this. Christian does look good :D

Hi and welcome Sturm und drang - it's hard because it's such a mix of feelings. But we all feel the same and that helps me.

Hi Anon - thanks for such a lovely comment, I appreciate it :) Awards are such a strange business but I suppose Batman himself - Christian Bale - will inevitably be viewed as the central character, even if the Joker role is pivotal. But who knows? It is a mystery, and I think the Oscars always will be. I agree about how awful it would be if Jake and Heath were 'competing' for the same award.

Hi there Ruby :D

Hey Nadine - Ruby put it so beautifully with the 'Heath-shaped hole' :) I'm looking out for previews round here too. I think I'm ready.

Anonymous said...

I adore Jake with no qualification! But my heart says, that if Heath does not receive an award this time, I will be truly heartsick, no matter who else is nominated or who else might win one.
Heath will never ever have another chance to do anything. There will be no more films after Parnassus. It is fininshed and final. So I want him to have everything he should have had time for in a long and glorious career. All of it.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi anon - I understand you completely - As someone who remembers with so much love Jake winning the Bafta, I can't deny how good it would be to know Heath won that Oscar that would definitely be coming to him at some time. 'Finished and final' - it is so sad.
