Tonight, I'm letting the Joker do the talking (oh, and the man in the black cape), because I have just returned from seeing The Dark Knight and movies like this have a way of robbing one of words. Also, I know many of you have yet to see it (I see IMAX tickets with some of your names on them this weekend) and so I'm staying schtum. But I will say two words, which can apply both to The Dark Knight and to Heath Ledger, 'bloody marvellous', and, as Jake Gyllenhaal would say, 'Don't wear mascara and take plenty of tissues'.

I followed Jake's advice,WDW, and it was a good job I did.
I haven't been able to get Heath, and his strangely sexy, green-haired alter-ego out of my head since I saw "TDK" (although Heath is often on my mind anyway).
Your succinct reaction and judicious choice of fabulous photos is eloquence itself. The Joker stole your post...but his co-conspirator stole our hearts :-( ...and I'm going before I start crying again...
Fierce.
Hey Nadine - I didn't follow Jake's advice unfortunately, so I was a smudged mess! I fear some dreams tonight. But don't want to give anything away, just want to get people in those theatre seats. The Joker really did steal my post.
Too right, JoeAnn.
The Joker really did steal my post.
.... and stole our hearts too. One of the best super-villans ever. Looking forward to hearing your take on TDK.
Morning everyone! Beautiful day and the weekend, some strange dreams though :\
Morning Sheba! It's very odd to have so many conflicting feelings about such a figure as the Joker. I know a lot of people will be seeing it this weekend and so I'll try to hold off until after then. I think I might have to go and see it again...
Have a great day everyone!
I can't wait to hear your take on TDK as well, WDW. I'm going to see it again this weekend. I was amazed by Heath's Joker, but I didn't expect to fall in love with Rachel and Harvey, and I lost my heart to Harvey too. I hope that storyline continues, and that's all I'll say for now until everyone's had a chance to see it. :')
If you can, see TDK at an IMAX theatre. I saw it first at a regular theatre and it was great, of course, but then IMAX -- wow! I felt like I was right there in the scenes with them. I look forward to everyone's take regardless.
Hello, wet dark!
The Joker stole his post and our hearts!
He never saw the Heath Ledger on the scene, only the Joker!
Heath succeeded beyond my expectations!
Seen three times and think I'll see more!
Lovely post, WDW! Thanks for always showing Heath so much love.
Hi everybody - I cannot believe this weather! Gorgeous! I've been out enjoying it while mourning the demise of my laptop today :((
Hi BK! I fell for Harvey and Rachel too but I'm saying nowt for the time being :D I'm so glad I saw Aaron on Monday.
Hey Beckela! I'm hoping to go and see TDK at the London IMAX later in August - it's so booked up. I may go and see it tomorrow in the normal screen here. I felt a huge need to see BBM after watching TDK last night and so I am tonight.
Ola Monica! I'm so glad to hear you love it so much - three times! I'm gonna catch you up :D
Thanks so much, anon (we're posting at the same time). I think it's only in the last two weeks that I've realised just how much Heath means to me - it's been a very difficult time.
Hope everyone's having a great day :)
I was a little bit nervous about my reaction to seeing Heath on the big, big screen too - but I was so swept up in his character that I almost didn't see Heath - just The Joker. Even with all of the evil Joker makeup and costuming, you could still see Heath's beauty and physical presence underneath. He was truly beautiful, in his way, as this character. And to know that a lot of the ideas for the Joker's look and character were his! I felt sad afterwards, because Heath means a lot to me as well, and his beauty and talent we were so luck to have while he was with us, but that we'll always have onscreen.
IMAX almost made me dizzy, but it's definitely the way to go for an action/adventure film. You feel almost like you are right there in the middle of it. Today, I'll see it on a regular movie screen and concentrate on all of the subtleties of it. Christian Bale was wonderful too, and I liked the simpler Batman costume. Magge was beautiful - falling for "the guy she sees every day at work", but who knows? Enjoy, everyone. ;)
The scenes where the Joker is wearing a nurse's uniform stick in my memory as unexpectedly sublime moments. There are a few such moments in the cinema when characters are doing a little dance that perfectly describes and complements their characters (Laurel and Hardy at the beginning of "Out West," for instance), and Heath's Joker has this moment for us to savor. Toby maguire has a nice little dance in "Spiderman 3" that does the same thing...
Hi BK :)I still haven't worked out my feelings about the Joker - it's going to take another screening for that, I think. I didn't see beauty but I saw enormous sexiness, vitality, madness and cruelty. He really scared me. There were moments when I glimpsed Heath but most of the time i was marvelling at how incredible an actor Heath must be to make me fear a comicbook character - he made the Joker a real menace, bringing him into a real world. Terrifying. But I don't want to talk too much about the film itself and reactions to it until people in Europe have had a chance to see it.
I saw a film about space at an IMAX once - at the Kennedy Space Center. An astronaut there said to me that it had given him a reminder of what it was like to be launched into space. He said it reminded him of how scared he'd been. Made me feel sick!
Hi Paul :D There were some amazing scenes. I can think of a couple but I'll save them for my spoilery post next week :D
I watched the movie first on Friday. I couldn't concentrate on anything other than how big of geniuses Chris & Jonathan Nolan are. I was basically thinking of the movie the whole time, and today I saw it again. And again I have the feeling, the one I had when Heath died. That empty feeling in my stomach....I'm genuinely sad that Heath Ledger is not alive. The world will miss out on so many incredible performances like this one. He's irreplaceable.
Good to see you Little Miss Lurker - And glad to see you delurking :) I saw TDK again today and this time I really enjoyed the film and appreciated the brilliance of Heath. I also enjoyed Maggie a lot more and didn't feel weepy in the scene when Heath and Maggie are on screen together. The first viewing was so hard. But I did find myself wondering today what roles we are going to miss by Heath not being here. It's such a loss.
Thanks for commenting :D
Haha, "delurking" :D Amazing word! And I couldn't think of a better place to come today after watching the movie.
I also enjoyed Maggie's performance more at the second screening. I mean, she obviously had her cool vibe on the entire time and I appreciated that, but the first time I had difficulty adjusting to the new Rachel Dawes. This time I had an opportunity to really see her acting... and of course it's great. And that scene with Rachel and The Joker... It also got me a lot the first time. I whispered to my brother "she was his best friend's sister" during that scene. It's still surreal that Heath is gone... But at least we're thankful for Maggie and Jake's upcoming roles. (and general existence) :)
and of course you're welcome WDW!
Ahh thanks, Little Miss Lurker :D I'm lucky to have somewhere where I can chat to people who are all reacting to this movie in this way - I find it rather strange how this movie is attracting two quite different audiences (amongst the many types who'll go) - Batman regulars and those like me who are Heath fans. And yeah, we can look forward to much more from Jake and Maggie.
