One thing's for sure, Brothers is definitely getting released some time or another, and I get the feeling that things may be hotting up, albeit at the rate that empires rise and fall. Today there is another release date - this time, IMDb records that France will get Brothers on 4 March. At this rate, I may be drawing a pension before we get full global release information but at least things are progressing.
I have a fondness for all of Jake's films, with the possible exception of one (it's about mathematics), but I have a particular affection for Moonlight Mile. It was good today to hear that Jake Gyllenhaal's co-star in this, Ellen Pompeo, has stated for the forthcoming issue of Allure that Moonlight Mile remains her favourite acting experience: 'That movie was, to date, my best experience ever acting. It was a really monumental time for me, and I was absolutely terrified, but they all helped me through it, and it was amazing.' And it shows, not least in the tender chemistry between Ellen and Jake.
We're missing Jake and so today I thought I would take a quick look at just some of the things that Jake himself may be missing while he's away in the desert, although, hopefully, he will have enjoyed his break from life lived in the public eye and is, fingers crossed, ready to get back into it.
There's nothing like unwinding with your adoring four-legged friend and the Orange Thing.
Seeing friends and family and not having to explain why you're bare chested, wearing three belts, huge leather boots, hair extensions and bracelets from all four corners of the ancient world.
Having a drink in the bar and trying to keep up with your sister's intake of red wine.
Shopping. Jake is a shopper and sometimes you want to buy more than carpets and saffron - ideally, kitchen products, jumpers and next year's Nike Shox.
I doubt there are too many Starbucks out there in the Kasbah (although who knows these days?), so it may be a relief to get back to ordering a Grande Iced Caffe Moche to go.
Food you cook yourself.
No doubt, life on the Prince of Persia set has been arduous with long, hot days and shooting going on into the night or starting before dawn. Sometimes you just want a lie-in.
And there are also times, when you've been busy for a while, committed to the task in hand, you want to experience a little of what it's all about.
And finally...
I must thank IHJ for the new old pictures of Jake, some of which, taken in 2002, show Jake and Maggie with a very special heroine of mine and Mr WDW, Debbie Harry.
Includes pictures from IHJ.

Jake is very appreciative of the Chloe's...dress in the Cannes picture;)
God, does this man like staring at women's breasts or what?
I loooove him in the party picture with Maggie. So young, he looks shy and cute and warm and cuddly, you want to squeeze him tight and kiss him all over.
Where is everyone? Don't tell me you all used to work for Lehman Brothers. Sigh...
Good night.
Hey Zodiac! Very good to see you, my friend. I was thinking everyone had just packed it in and gone home for the night, leaving me to turn the lights off. Thanks for the company :)
I included that pic of Jake and Chloe as it's a cheeky pic and makes me chuckle :D
If there's any squeezing and cuddling to me done, please form an orderly line behind me and don't hurry me...
There are Jake fans at Lehman's so love to them - sigh - difficult days.
Good to see you Zodiac, shall we head off to the bar?
Hey there y'all!
Hard to know when to duck and run these days. So as Porky Pine outta Walt Kelly's Pogo used to say when asked what he does when he doesnt know where to turn: "I dont turn."
WDW, is this the second installment of "Jake looking incredibly hot while doing ordinary (and extraordinary) things"?
First meeting Ellen P he told her she was most beautiful women he'd ever seen.
Facts about Jake gleaned from close study of his public life: he likes blondes. He's a boobaholic.
But as Ennis said: "That don't mean nothin', Alma. . " :D :D
WDW are you implying that Maggie's smashed in this picture? :D
It's always a pleasure to keep you company, WDW.
To the bar? How about a pub? I was in Oxford only once, 4 years ago, and I was told by three English guys that one of the pubs in Oxford is the oldest pub in England. Is that true?
I think people wouldn't be able to form an orderly line with Jake awaiting for them at the end. There would be A LOT of fighting and thank God I used to practise karate. I'm not joking.
Good night and sweet dreams about squeezing and cuddling the Gyllenbody:)
P.S. I can't log in for some reason.
Hi everyone,
It's been a very hard day here. We are in some rough times in the old US of A. Trying to keep hope alive...
This brilliant post sure helps!!! OMG, WDW, such fantastic pics that I have never seen before....LOVE them! Jake and Maggie always make me feel good when I see pics of them together. How cool to see them with Debbie Harry and the great director Pedro Almadovar.
Pia, thought of you this morning when Good Morning America did a stop in the Berkshires. They hit the Red Lion Inn and Kripalu yoga center. I have had some wonderful times at both places.
Jake does love the boobies...hehe. ;p
Big hugs all.
Hey Pia! Glad to see you're not turning :D I do like this idea of imagining Jake out there in our world and making our world extraordinary - he has this way about him and it's irresistible. Jake is also a very adorable 'boobaholic'
I have to admit, I think Maggie is smashed in that pic! Good for her. A woman after my own heart :D
Hey Zodiac, thank you :D We have lots of old pubs in Oxford. Definitely some are over 500 years old. If in doubt, try them all...
Blimey, karate Zodiac... I might let you go first after all :D
Hi Get Real! Good to see you. So much bad news of late, so I'm just hanging onto Jake and his cheekiness. I love that we now have a photo of Jake and Maggie with Debbie - I really do. I've seen Debbie Harry so many times in concert over the years and I've sung along with ehr since I was a youngster. Great to see Jake with her.
Pia's been in the hot spot today!
Hugs to you too *)
Hey Get Real, Red Lion Inn is just around the corner from me - streets have been closed off for a couple of days.
I dont have TV, snob snob, but the episode from Joe's Diner in Lee was on-line this morning.
I had dinner in one of those old Oxford pubs almost 40 years ago. My touring college choral group was in Oxford for one day. We sang a concert in Christ Church Cathedral, and a group of local students took us to a lovely place to eat.
I think that that movie about mathematics had a couple of Jake's *best* scenes in them. Butm yes, the scenes where crazy old Anthony Hopkins is sitting outside in the snow and spouting nonsense are pretty depressing. Gwynneth is depressing in some of her scenes as well. But Jake is sublime in his take on Hal.
Where is everyone? Don't tell me you all used to work for Lehman Brothers. Sigh...
You all are funny. :)
Now, I kinda like the direction this conversation is going . . . ;)
but I gotta call it a night too.
Night!
Morning everyone! Another rather nice autumnal day.
Morning Pia :D
Hi Paul! That's great hearing you were here in Oxford - Christ Church Cathedral is just beautiful. I definitely agree about Jake having the 'best' scenes in the mathematical pic; I can't watch any of the rest of it without significant amounts of alcohol.
Hi Anon :D There are some very funny people here - they always know how to make me laugh!
Have a great day everyone!
Nice new old Jake pics WDW, 2002 seems a huge amount of time ago when it comes to Jake, he seems sooo different, soo much younger but I can't help but love him, in any time or age. :)
And I'm surprised to see a less combed than me Maggie and a much more combed than me Pedro Almodovar.;)
But I'd really love to see Jake in a Pedro's movie. Now that would be a challenging role. :)
And watching Jake with Debbie Harry riminded me that Kirsten is going to play Debbie in the upcoming Michel Gondry's biopic about her, right? Again, a small world...
Have a god day everyone. :)
Hi there Xenia! I love those pics of Jake and Maggie. It looks like quite a party :D I didn't realise Kirsten is going to play Debbie Harry. What a great choice, I can see her do it. Thanks for that!
Have a good day :)
Forgot to mention, loved the pic of Jake, Maggie, Deborah Harry and Pedro Almadovar. How exciting that Kirsten is going to play Debbie; looking forward to that. :)
Dear WDW, as a British Gyllnhaalic, can you accomplish
This mission? Please? :)
Good morning, Wet Dark!
Moonlight Mile was the first DVD I bought with Jake!
The chemistry between Ellen and Jake is perfect!
Thank you for posting a photo of Chris. tenmho great admiration for him.
Hi there anon :) I'm looking forward to seeing Kirsten do that too. Be a great role. I wonder who would do the singing or if she would do it.
Hi Monica! I love Chris too, it's a pleasure to include a pic of him :D
Don't you worry, Xenia. I'm on the case. I have the pic and will be putting it up as soon as I'm home :D
