During what must have been a difficult week for the Gyllenhaal family, Jake and Maggie have been keeping themselves occupied - Jake, with continuing to shoot the epic Prince of Persia just outside London, and Maggie by play readings and doing her bit for the Obama ticket as well as for a bipartisan campaign to get first-time teenage voters into the polling booths. We've already seen Peter's video for 18 in 08 and now here is Maggie's.
On Wednesday, Maggie could be found in Long Island - more precisely, at the Creative Coalition's Pre-Presidential hospitality suite at the Marriott in Uniondale. Alongside Matthew Modine, Maggie hosted an event focused on America's healthcare crisis.
Also this week, as previously mentioned here, Maggie took part in a First Look reading for the Classic Stage Company on 13th Street, NYC: 'These First Look readings - which take place after only an afternoon's worth of rehearsal time - serve mainly as impromptu artistic experiments, whereby the theatre company can mount classic texts in front of paying audiences in order to explore their viability as possible full productions in future Classic Stage season lineups.' Maggie partook in what is not an easy offering: 'Brecht's moral melodrama The Good Person of Sezuan'.
This is how one review describes Maggie's performance - and if someone can translate, I'd be grateful... 'In a distinctly modern choice, Gyllenhaal made the Jekyll-and-Hyde transition from kind, altruistic Shen Te to cutthroat Shui Ta by donning a pair of sunglasses as well as widening her gait and loosening her swagger. Nevertheless, her warm vocal inflections changed only minimally, making the acceptance of her dual personalities amongst the townspeople with whom she comes in regular contact somewhat implausible. This could be a strength or weakness, depending on how one looks at the play. Is it preferable that Shen Te's moral deception be one largely accepted by an oblivious public or a construction of her fundamentally corrupted internal nature?' Er, yes! Or, no.
And what of Maggie's brother? While Jake himself appears to have been head down, hard at work this week (like many more of us, I'm sure), there have been some little bits of 'news' on his films. Firstly, could it be that there is hope for Nailed? According to this new report at Hollywood Reporter, some 'elements' of ThinkFilm - which is as dead as an upside down duck - may be taken over by a newly formed distribution company to be formed by David Bergstein, financier of ThinkFilm and Capitol Films, and to be led by 'former New Line theatrical distribution president David Tuckerman.'
According to this report, Nailed, surely a prized asset, is to be included in the 'initial slate' for distribution. Fingers crossed that we may still see Immoral Congressman Jake before we fall off the perch.
Meanwhile, Ben Kingsley - sorry, Sir Ben Kingsley - has been talking a little bit more about his villainous role in the Prince of Persia during his attendance at a special screening of Gandhi in Abu Dhabi, UAE. 'I play such a mean guy, but my task is to smile and smile and be a villain. I'm the politest and most gentle baddie you've ever seen on screen, until the closing scene of the film when I become extremely violent. I think it's going to be huge fun for a lot of kids.' And not just little kids either...

WDW I LOVE YOU! first off I have been trying to get some pics of Maggie's new hairstyle. She was on the View last week and they don't have any pics of her on their website. AND I did get some but I wanted the best I could find. I would like to get my hair cut like hers. And I needed a pic to take with me.
AND Maggie was someplace I have been. I've been to the Marriott in uniondale. I used to live on Long Island (I was born and raised there) Too bad I wasn't there when she was. I see she was with Alfrie woodward, I think she's a great actress.
Thanks for all you too
Hugs

Trekfan! I love you too! I knew you were after a picture - I'm so glad these did the job. Maggie really reminds me of Naomi here. I like the look a lot. Good luck with the haircut :D I love to hear that you've been to that Marriott :D I've not been to Long Island - yet. Thank you :D
Looking forward to Jake taking time to do a VOTE video - and also speak out against Prop 8.
Love Maggie and Peter! Thanks for these videos!
Hey Pia! It'd be great to see Jake do a video as in 2004. He'd certainly make me vote and I'm not even American...
Good night, Wet Dark!
It's amazing the similarity of Maggie with Naomi.
The photo of Maggie and Peter is so cute. I love to see this couple!
Good news about nailed. I'm anxious to see this movie
Morning Monica :D I'm really looking forward to seeing Nailed too - maybe it'll even happen!
Have a good day everyone - a beautiful cold, crisp and sunny day :D
Good for Maggie for showing her support for the vote. As well as Peter. I have a feeling Jake would be doing more if he weren't out of the country working long hours, but who knows. Would be fantastic if he did a vote PSA too. The one he did with Peter a few years ago was very hot!
Good to hear from Sir Ben about PoP.
Pia, good to see you and all the familiar posters.
Have a good Saturday everyone.
Hey, good to see you Get Real! I agree, I'm sure Jake would be involved if he were around. I'm sure he's keping an eye on things too. That video with Peter was just fantastic! Plenty more of those would be good. Hope you're having a good day :)
Great post, WDW! I'm so, so, so busy at the moment but I keep checking on the new posts.
Jake should definitely do a vote video. I'd so vote for everything he'd tell me to and I'm not even American:)
I love Maggie's new haircut.
WDW, how in the world can you bear to breath the same air as Jake and not go out and try to run into him accidentally on purpose. If Jake were ever to be in my country for the movies, I would not be able to rest.
Hey Zodiac! Good to see you. It must be the busy time of year, I am so rushed off my feet at the moment - not good :( Me too with the voting - fortunately with Jake we can rely on him to give us a good introduction to US politics :D
Hi there anon! It's not easy, believe me :D I'm in London a fair bit and I keep my eyes open (of course!) but it's so easy for famous people to get about here left in peace - which I suppose is a good thing. On the other hand, it's lovely knowing Jake is so close as Pinewood is no distance from me :D
I wish Jake were doing a shoot in the street, like Peter did for An Education. Then it might be possible to have a look. I suppose it's a bit more difficult to pass southern England off as 6th-century Persia - I'm sure they could have a go though...
