While we sit and wait patiently/impatiently (delete as appropriate) for Jake to emerge in his familiar LA haunts - after he's got over the jetlag, caught up on household chores, watched those recorded TV shows and skimmed through several months of home improvement and cookery magazines, which he forgot to cancel during his absence - it appears Gyllenhaalism is not confined to the unfamous. The lovely and very young Ashley Tisdale told morning TV today that, if she could turn back the sands of time and have her prom all over again, she would go with Jake Gyllenhaal.
Clearly, this girl has taste and, although her movie is all about High School Musicals and although proms are not an overly familiar concept to Brits (I always thought a prom was something you walked along at the beach), nevertheless I am delighted to hear Jake's name spoken in such a context. I definitely agree that if you need a prom date then you need look no further than Jake. In fact, if you want to go to any kind of party, Jake is your ideal choice.
Part of the job of being an international movie star and heart throb is that, now and again, you have to go to a party. As Jake told TRL last year, celebrities cancel each other out at such events. Jake is fortunate because he can always take along his similarly famous sister and brother-in-law. As an example, here is a video of Jake, Maggie and Peter arriving at the Vanity Fair party back in 2005. Hair was optional in the dress code.
While at the Toronto Film Festival, back in the days of Moonlight Mile and Secretary ('aka the spanking movie'), Jake and Maggie decided not to participate in the party round: 'Maggie Gyllenhaal, the star of ''The Secretary,'' a story about a sadomasochistic relationship, had a series of PG-rated evenings watching television with her brother, Jake Gyllenhaal, himself an emerging star in several current films, at his hotel room. And James Spader, who plays Ms. Gyllenhaal's boss in ''The Secretary,'' a k a ''the spanking movie,'' spent similar low-key time buying groceries at Whole Foods.' I have to say that watching TV with Jake in his hotel room would definitely rank higher up my list of things to do than shopping at Whole Foods, despite the store's admirable displays of fresh, seasonal produce and local wines.
Of course, there is another type of party, and the Creative Coalition, an organisation in which Maggie has been involved during this electoral marathon, 'announced publicly this week that they are busily making arrangements for its fabulous nonpartisan presidential inaugural celebration - even though the race for the White House is still on.' This party will take place on 20 January in Washington and the names of Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard could appear on the dancing cards of the fortunate. The fabulous Susan Sarandon will also be attending.
Talking of parties, Maggie was the guest on West 14th Street, NYC, this week at the 'opening of the Hugo Boss Concept Store on Wednesday night marking the first time, and the only location, where you can find all four BOSS sub-lines under one roof (under one ultra-cool wooden caged roof we might add). Not only is the store a looker, but it’s also technically savy with lighting effects that adjust to the current weather and time of day… Seriously.' This sounds like quite an event and there were some great pictures taken of Maggie with Brooke Shields and Mena Suvari.

Hey WDW - did I put my foot in my mouth a few entries back? Did I unknowingly stumble across a Great Unmentionable? Was it gossip in its finest form and therefore not true?
In other words - was my comment deleted?
*looks again*
Hi Elfie! NO WAY would I delete a comment from you :D You posted a few days ago and I was so pleased to see you and answered, it should still be there. I'll check myself... I'll be back!
..Back again! Elfie, the last time you posted as far as I believe was in the scarf post (a week ago) when you commented about Stephen and Naomi - http://wetdarkandwild.blogspot.com/2008/10/jake-gyllenhaal-what-to-wear-scarf-for.html
It's still there - I'm a big fan of yours and I love it when you comment :D
See? I didn't put my foot in my mouth then, I did it just now! Sorry!
I've been on holiday the past week and I was wondering where I'd left that comment to read (if any) answers to it. I think I mistook the scarf-entry for the t-shirt one and then neglected to look at the date... Sheesh... some people!?!
*tries pulling shoe from between teeth*
Wow, the ladies are dressed beautifully in this post, especially Mina Suvari! And Maggie's elegant cape. I love the navy dress and gloves. What a great color. ;)
Oh phew, Elfie :D I was worried I'd lost something - blogger goes crazy occasionally, especially this week. No worries, I muddle up my Jake clothing posts all the time - that's why I should focus on posts where Jake has no clothing on! I hope you had a lovely holiday and it's always good to see you, my friend, you must come and chat with me more often xx
Hi there anon! I love these pictures of Maggie, Brooke and Mena, I really do - they all look wonderful. The cape's gorgeous. And I hope Trekfan saw them and got more ideas for her Maggie hairdo :D
No worries, my dear. It's just me being blind as a bat.
I'll stop by to chat more, I promise.
*hugs*
Excellent! Hugs back *)
I'm watching Somewhere in Time with Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve tonight - one of those movies where you just can't help yourself :D Time to break open the ice cream...
Oh I have always loved Jane, she's beautiful. I love her hair. The first time I ever saw her was in a James Bond film, as Solitaire. One of my faves. Enjoy! :)
I've always liked her too, Anon - I remember Solitaire :D This is one of my favourite films and I've not seen it for years, I finally got round to finding the DVD of it and it arrived today :)
