Swashbuckling Prince of Persia: It's 'going to be massive. It's really spectacular'

Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner has been discussing the shape of the movie to MTV, making it clear that, while the film is based on the spirit of the game, it is a different beast entirely: '“Well the movie’s packed with action, so there’ll be swords and horses and all the things that wouldn’t be ‘Prince of Persia’ without. But because it’s a movie, it’s about the characters and character relationships. There’s no fighting for fighting’s sake. In a game, you have a lot of fighting because you’re doing it and it’s fun,” he said. “But in a movie, fighting’s a part of the story but it’s not a movie about swordfighting.”'


Jordan also states that PoP will “do for Arabian Nights movies what ‘Pirates’ did for pirate movies... This is how we pitched it to Disney and Bruckheimer – as an old-fashioned swashbuckling action-adventure in a tradition going all the way back to the Doug Fairbanks movies. The modern equivalent being ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ an example of an old movie made new again, doing a fresh take on it for a modern audience,” Mechner said. “Tonally, I’d say it’s basically ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ with maybe a half-step towards Gladiator.”'


'“If you take the first ‘Sands of Time’ game, that was set in basically the real world, but with this mystical element that intrudes into it,” Mechner said of the balance. “It feels like it’s grounded in a very real world with historical roots, but then it’s got this fantasy element as well. It’s not completely over the top... There’ll certainly be a lot of stunts, a lot of special effects. I mean it’s Jerry Bruckheimer!” Mechner insisted. “They’re shooting in the deserts of Morocco. The scope of this is going to be massive. It’s really spectacular.”

While Maggie has often been celebrated - and sometimes even derided - for her independent and individual taste of style, the fact that her brother Jake Gyllenhaal is a Godsend for the clothing industry has largely gone ignored (except by us) and so this post is dedicated to Jake's service to a modest item of clothing, frequently found in many of our wardrobes and usually overlooked in the street. And yet on the chest of Jake it takes on glamour model proportions - the V-necked t-shirt.


Jake Gyllenhaal looks fabulous wearing a suit and he looks fabulous wearing nothing but a santa hat, but he has taken wearing a v-necked t-shirt to a whole new level. Jake has turned this humble item of everyday clothing into the male equivalent of the little black dress and it has become an essential item.


The white v-necked t-shirt accompanied by jeans and boots and a powerful stride is a popular look for Jake.




For Rendition, Douglas Freeman relaxed in a greyish v-neck and, for a while, this was a popular look for Jake.




When no v-necked t-shirt is available (even movie stars have to throw things in the washing machine - whites alone or mixed colours and take a chance?), Jake has been known to use sunglasses to give that v-neck effect.


At slightly cooler times of the year, or in other parts of the world, a v-necked sweater has to do.





And at other times, a few buttons do the job.
