Brothers - Sheridan says August 2009

Jim Sheridan has been talking about Brothers and, although he gives little away, there is some news about its release - set your watches and calendars for August 2009.

'A remake of Susanne Bier's acclaimed Danish flick Brothers, it tells the story of a man, played by Maguire, who is sent to fight in Afghanistan while his black-sheep brother (Gyllenhaal) cares for his wife and child. It co-stars big names including Natalie Portman and Sam Shepard. Sheridan continued: "We were in Santa Fey in New Mexico filming it for more than five months and we had a fabulous time. It's a great town and was good fun to make. I think that we're going to release that in August of next year."'

'The affable movie maker said that he hopes he'll be able to continue making films in which he really believes. "It's hard to know right now," he said. "I think like everything else, it's going to re-trench a little bit. I have never really done commercial movies but that may change."'

Whether the possible August date means showings at Cannes (in May) or Toronto (in September) - or neither - is open to speculation. But, at least, now we have a clue and a date to head towards for seeing Jake again, at long last, on the big screen.

Includes pictures from IHJ.

Arrrghh... August! That's... more than 8 months away!

Still hope that it will grace Cannes and gather some momentum though.

Thanks for the news :)

(my word is suriang - Ang Lee directing Tom Cruise's baby girl?...)

August is better than nothing, right? *sigh*

I liked Sheridan's In the Name of Father a lot. I had this brief period of fascination with Ireland when I was 19-20:)

My word is mintin- can you eat that?

Evening everyone :D I have a great word for a change - gling :D

Hi Winterbird! I had mixed feelings when I read this a) blimey that's a long way off and b) thank heavens we have a rough date. Let's hope something happens with Nailed in the meantime. Like the word!

Hey Nouskie! Thanks for the welcome home *)

Hi Zodiac :D Yep, it's better than nothing and that's the way to look at it. I remember watching In The Name of the Father when it came out - it's stuck in my mind.

There do seem to be a lot of Christmas cookery programmes on TV at the moment. So, here goes - gling :D Ooh, now it's changed to coponit - errr...

My word is ciathmo, it's almost cilantro:D

So, have you got this silk pyjamas for him yet? You have 4 days left:)

I'm not sure I want to encourage Jake to wear pyjamas, whatever they're made of, Zodiac :D How about a wii?

Well, I guess August is better than no release date at all! And it does leave room for Cannes and possibly Toronto Film Fests.

Btw, the last post was HOT! The chest shots...omg....HOT.

And I totally adore Kate Winslet and her comments about Jake and Sam talking for hours on the phone. :) Can't wait to see her movies too.

WDW, glad you got home safe, hon. Really sorry to hear about your injury (((xxx)))

Going back to enjoy the GyllenChest and GyllenTreasureTrail. :p

Hi Get Real! Yes, that was my reaction too... Glad you enjoyed the last post - I did too. I needed to be warmed up. Thanks about my wrist :) It feels much, better but I have to keep asking people to undo bottles etc for me and I can't pour water from a kettle so my teamaking duties are having a rest! xx

At last some news on Brothers. Hopefully it will get released then.

I don't think I can take much longer without any new release with Jake in it. Especially the publicity and interviews etc that go with it. 2008 has been a hard year:(

Btw only got a chance to look at the posts I missed while I was away now. Love the new pics in London last week. Jake you look more gorgeous than ever. Those eyes:) I might have to make that my screensaver over my usual festive Swoff:)

Glad to hear your wrist is feeling better WDW. At least the rotten first day back at work is over for both of us.

Have a good evening everyone

Thank you WDW for this update. I thought maybe May of 2009 but Aug is good too. I'll try to be patient (not)

OMG! Why is it too hard to finish this movie?

I don´t understand why it´s taking almost two years!

Morning everyone! Cold out there - and foggy - ugh.

Hi Carol! Those London pictures are just gorgeous, there's such a long gap between pictures, these ones are worth savouring :D I hope your second day back is easier.

Hi Sweetpea :D - it is not easy to be patient, not at all...

Morning Anon! They just want to extract every last ounce of patience out of us - it's a kind of torture that Jake's moviemakers like to put us through. At this rate, Jake's next film will be out before this one!

Have a good day everyone! At least we have a date to work towards (if it sticks...)

A release date whatsoever is sure better than nothing. Besides, the fact that the film could get to the theatres (presumably) in August doesn't mean it couldn't be showed at Cannes in May.
One thing's for sure: you don't let a Jim Sheridan's movie disappear, expecially when it features three of the most appealing star in young hollywood. Expecially when you've spent a large amount of money on it ;).

Bye to all.:)

Hi Xenia! This late summer date does open up a fair number of festivals. So let's hope :D I'm just glad too to have a date of sorts. That's a good point you make about Sheridan - this is a greatly respected director - people want to see his films and they need to be released properly.

I've had to come home unwell so I'll catch up with you all later :) (My word is infest - how pleasant)

Let's not discourage Jake from wearing pajamas. I'd hate to see him get cold on a cold night.

I just got back from seeing "Rachel getting married" (Had to drive 30 miles to reach a theater that was showing it...) An Hathaway's performance is devastating. If she wins a Golden Globe, she will richly deserve it.

Hi there everyone :)

Morning Pia! That would be lovely :) I have a yucky fluey thing. Jake's continued absence from our screens and red carpets is compromising my immune system...

Hi Paul :) I'd love to see Rachel Getting Married too. I saw Get Smart on the plane coming home and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Ann Hathaway's acting in "Rachel getting married" is unlike anything I've seen her do before. She disappears completely into the part. The only false note is the false smoking. ;-)

Hope you are feeling a bit better today WDW.

Hi Paul :) Must be strange being a non-smoker and having to smoke in a movie - mind you, she did in in BBM too from what I remember.

Thanks so much Carol :D I'm feeling much better this evening.
