Bruckheimer's tribute to his prince: Jake Gyllenhaal 'looks fantastic' and 'worked really hard'

Following on from the news yesterday that the Prince of Persia poster is to be premiered sneakily in the Disney February release, Confessions of a Shopaholic, comes Jerry Bruckheimer's tribute to the prince himself, Jake Gyllenhaal.

'Jerry Bruckheimer, who produces the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, told a group of reporters that the star, a much-pumped-up Jake Gyllenhaal, will be unrecognizable in the title role. Asked for his producer's opinion on the film's dailies and cut footage, Bruckheimer went straight to his star's appearance. "Yeah, you won't recognize Jake Gyllenhaal," Bruckheimer said in a press conference on Sunday in Beverly Hills, Calif., where he was promoting his latest film, Confessions of a Shopaholic. "I've seen most of Prince of Persia. It looks fantastic." The producer added that Gyllenhaal got his swashbuckler muscles the old-fashioned way. "No, no drugs," he countered to jibes against Gyllenhaal's sudden bulk. "No drugs. [He] just worked really hard."'

'Bruckheimer credited Gyllenhaal with a solid athletic foundation that was easy for his Hollywood trainers to manipulate in different directions. "Well, he's a cyclist anyway, and he bikes all the time," the producer said. "We just had to have him do a little lifting, but he looks fantastic."... Bruckheimer, who also produced Disney's well-received Pirates of the Caribbean movies, added that he hopes Prince will earn similar kudos. "I hope so," he said. "I think we have a terrific story and great characters and a wonderful cast, a great director. Mike Newell is a master."'

Still over a year to go! But you can bet we're going to hear a lot about the film and its prince over the coming months...

Thanks to JoeAnn for sending along the article and thanks to IHJ for the pictures.

It must certainly is, Atti! You must be very proud - you must fetch Jake his newspaper and slippers today ;)

Morning everyone! Great to hear such stuff about Jake this morning - although Jake's fitness regimen and diet seemed to involve more that just 'a little lifting'!

Have a good day :)

LOL... if Jake could bulk up for Jarhead, of course he could do it again for PoP.. the drug question is pretty silly from the reporters! but it's good that Jerry B seems to like it.

I think to really build muscles, you don't just do lifting, there must be loads of protein in his diet. I bet Jake can't wait to get back to his Italian carb diet! Maybe that's why he made that "I am going to get fat" joke.

Hi there Winterbird! Good to hear jerry stamping on the drug question - ridiculous thing to be asked. The lifting thing did make me chuckle, as if that's enough to look like Jake! A lot of diet changes, I'm sure. I hope you're having a good day at work and that they've fixed your computer problems :D

Btw, I've watched the trailer of "Confessions of a Shopaholic", it looks quite fun and I like Mrs Borat (Isla Fisher), so the the PoP bit might push me to go and catch the film :)

work computer is half up (still no common network), but at least I got internet! :)

Ooh, that's good you have the internet now, Winterbird :D But what if you go and see the film and you miss the poster?! You must go and tell us exactly how far in the poster is :D I think it's out in the US a couple of weeks before it is here so hopefully we'll hear!

It baffles me as to why anyone would want Jake to be 'unrecognizable' anyway - he's so good looking pre-Prince and post-Prince!
PS I'm so sorry I upset TallMouse, I hope s/he was not too cross?

Hi there TD! exactly! Calling Jake unrecognisable suggests that he wasn't so hot and sexy before but, as you say, Jake is hot and sexy pre-, during and post-PoP! Sigh ...

Hi WDW and everyone.:)

I guess Burkheimer is doing his own job in advertizing his product, and he's actually doing great but still I find absurd that some people don't get Jake as the Prince. Because, really, they are, like, separated at birth!
Have you even see at least one image of the Prince, people?
And have you ever seen a Jake film other than DD? :/

BTW, I'm expecting a fantastic year (and more sadly) of PoP publicity everywhere, Jake's Dastan everywhere and that doesn't sound bad, at all. Sceptics be damned.

Have a good day.:)

Hi Xenia! Hope you had a good weekend :D I know these people (gaming enthusiasts?) just know nothing about Jake and don't seem interested to find out, just to criticise. They're in for a shock! I can't wait to follow all this publicity, before I go and camp out in the theatres next May!

I think the idea is pretty lame. Who goes to a movie to see a poster hanging in the background in one of the scenes?

I know gamers and graphic novel fans who go to the theatre just to see trailers, so going to a movie to see a poster isn't that far off. Most commercial films are glorified advertisements, anyway.

Why wouldn't Bruckheimer/Disney use one movie to promote another one? makes sense. And he wouldn't have mentioned it if he didn't expect people would want to see it. He doesn't care why you go to his movie, as long as you buy the ticket!

Hello everybody!!!

Happy Gyllenhaalic here!!
Heath and Kate won SAG awards last night and now this yummy, yummy post =O)
You know how to make a girl happy, WDW!!!!
Jake does look fantastic in a new way of "fantasticness" to the one we are used to (because he always looks totally edible for me). It's like when I thought I had seen it all he finds a new way to look adorable and to be even more adorable. He is so funny!!!! Hot, talented and funny!! It doesn't get better than this =O)

Hugs to every one of you and especially to WDW, the coolest blogger ever ;OP

See you around!!!

Hey I Know I Won't - Hate to say it, but I might... Bruckheimer has me sized up that's for sure - I'm far too weak where Jake's concerned :/

Hi there Delilah! Good to see you. It's interesting marketing and it does make sense when you're someone like Bruckheimer. Also he knows that Jake has a lot of fans who would like the Confessions movie - going for the pull of Jake as opposed to the gaming angle. Putting my grown up head on for once, it's pretty interesting.

Thank you Sara! What a lovely thing to say - hugs back :D It's great about the SAG awards last night (more on that later). I love how you describe Jake :)

I am sure that Jake had a good time filming "Prince of Persia." And if Disney has its way with the special effects, audiences will have a great time watching it.

Jake is a hard worker, we already know that ;-).

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Paul! I do think we're in for a treat with PoP and I'm sure Jake had a blast despite all that hard work :D

Oh yes, Atti, do keep on chewing those trousers from the other day :D That's a good service you're doing there...

Very glad to hear Bruckheimer talk about Jake and that PoP sounds really good!

As for the silly question of drugs, they obviously haven't seen Jarhead or the fact that Jake works out all the time and was on a strict routine for a long time.

Exercise gives you a natural high anyway. It's more painful to stop.

I would have wished that PoP would be showing this coming summer, rather than next year, but Disney presumably knows best. ;-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Get Real! I'm so excited to see PoP and I love the thought that we're going to have such a runup! Very true about the exercising.

Hi Paul :) I really, really wish PoP were coming out this summer.... really, really....
