A detour on WDW this Sunday as, weather permitting (there's a big storm blowing out there), I put on my David Fincher Fangirl Beanie. Fincher is in town and is attending the preview screening of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button at the BFI Southbank, London. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with David himself, conducted for the Guardian newspaper. A season of Fincher films accompanies the visit by the big man, meaning that Zodiac is again on show. I'm thrilled to say that I was able to grab a ticket and it will be fabulous to see David again and this time listen to him speak about his career, past, present and future - a full report to follow.
Towards the end of the month, David Fincher will be back across the pond and will be the Guest Director at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The recognition that David is receiving this winter from peers and admirers alike, is something that I do wish he had received exactly a year ago, for that most marvellous of films, Zodiac.
Sunday is also the day when the previews begin for the off Broadway production of Uncle Vanya starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard and Denis O'Hare. The excitement surrounding this production - and the ticket sales - means that the run has already been extended. In between previews and rehearsals, one can be sure that Maggie and Peter are also enjoying the jubilation, parties and celebrations that will culminate in Tuesday's inauguration.

Atti, you are fab! Big bossy man did a great job with Jake and if I get the chance to plant a big smacker on DF, you bet I will! I love him :D I also love the thought that last Sunday Fincher saw Jake and this Sunday it's my turn :D Obviously he should've dragged Jake over with him, but never mind :)
Good luck tomorrow! Look forward to your Fincher report.
It's blowing crazy outside in London as well!
if you get a chance to ask questions, please tell him that we loved Zodiac and it's the most unfairly ignored film of last year.
Hey Winterbird! If I get the chance to ask a question, I'm gonna say that the nation demands that DF does another film with Jake and what's going on with Torso? Looking forward very much to seeing you tomorrow too *) The weather is just terrible...
Gosh Peter looks so RUSSIAN - guess it's the moush brush - O god he and Maggie should so Anna K! Peter is VERY sexy! And Maggie looks very Chekhov also. would I ever love to see this!
Hope P and M wear their Moscow furs to DC, its gonna be cold!
Thanks as always WDW -
it's cold and quiet here in the mountains - five below this morning!
take care, everybody.
Hi Pia! I love this look of Peter's now that he's got rid of that humungous Seagull face fuzz. Very sexy and Vanyaesque indeed. I like this haircut of Maggie's too. Stay warm :) It's mild here but that wind is howling...
Good night, Wet dark!
Yesterday saw Benjamin Button and consider one of the best films of the year.
David did a wonderful reflection about life.
Wet dark, you are a lucky person!
I'm gonna say that the nation demands that DF does another film with Jake and what's going on with Torso?
Excellent question!
David is also working on Fertig, biography of the American civil engineer Wendell Fertig, who became a combatant in World War II. The script is by Robert Towne (Chinatown).
"It may be one of the five biggest movies in history," David Fincher speaks in an interview with Brazilian magazine SET.
Thank you for information about Maggie and Peter!
Hi There WDW,
Didn't get a chance to get online yesterday, so I wanted to say a great big thank you for the Heath Tribute. I saw the EW cover tribute at my local bookstore yesterday... call me crazy I bought two!
Heath, damn I wish you here to experience all this :( You done good, son!
Night Monica! I'm glad you liked Ben Button. I'm looking forward to seeing it, all 167 minutes of it :D It'll be interesting to hear hom talk about future projects - I really hope there's something about Zodiac too.
Hi there Amy :D I'm really glad you liked the Heath post. That sounds very sensible to buy two copies of EW, I'll be doing the same when they eventually reach the shelves here.
Oh, I will have to walk over to the theatre and get tickets for Maggie and Peter! I can't believe such a great cast is in such a small off Broadway production. Cool.
Very cool, WDW, that you got tickets to see Fincher. Can't wait for your report.
It so cold here, omg, but I am all emotional and joyous watching the Obama's taking the train to DC for the inauguration. I am overwhelmed by this history.
And thanks for the new Jake pics. I do love him in the hoodie...very sexy to me.
Hey Get Real, ooh I do hope you get tickets! Be wonderful to see. I once swore I would never see another Chekhov play on stage again, but that was well before the GyllenGaards got hold of them :D
I'm a hoodie girl so I definitely like Jake in a hoodie too :)
I've been watching Obama's travels live this afternoon and I just think it's amazing, seeing him on that old train, following Lincoln. Very moving. It is history we're seeing. I would love to be in the US at this time but I'm glad we can watch it here :)
Have fun, WDW!
Peter and Maggie are looking great, and I bet the show will be amazing!
Thanks BandGeek! It should be a lovely day :D
WDW when you see big bossy man ask when Daddy be gone and you send me lots a meats. Daddy don't tell me when he gone. Durty cur say he don't trust me no more.
(((Atti))) I'll make sure to, and I'll send you some quorn :D
Thanks WDW! I got nuff corn in the organic crap Daddy got so you forget that part but send the quail right away and you make sure you send lots cuz they is small bony birds. Maybe when you see Mr Fincher you ask him send me finch meat.
WDW Daddy say Finch is chewing too long time trying get bugs out on his torso. Maybe when you visit you bring him flea collar WDW.
Or the drops those is better than collar WDW what you do is you rub his back with drops start between shoulder then go down to butt end and after he don't chew bugs on his torso no more and he love you and you got to pet him and rub him and you make Daddy very happy and he gone at day and me can go get real food. I love you WDW.
Hey, good luck for today, WDW! I hope you can ask DF all the important questions - and he will have answers ready!!
And good luck for helping him to get rid of his bugs (LOL, Atticus!)
A question for the US people here about the Entertainment Weekly about Heath... When exactly did it hit the shops (and how long do you think will it be there)? And which edition (date/ number) is it (I cannot read it on the pic that was on the EW page)?
I just realized that a colleague of mine is over there this week and I have been brave before and asked him to bring a BBM calendar and that Interview issue of Jake, so I guess I am out to him anyway and can ask him to bring the EW for me, too.
I hope everybody has a good Sunday!
Hi thre everyone! A beautiful day after quite a storm. A good day for a stroll along the Thames :D
Hey Atti!! All right I'll keep the quorn and keep my eyes open for a heap of quail, or finches. Thanks for the tip on getting rid of the bugs :D My word is angestetsi which sounds like a bug. I love you too!
Morning Uli! We get it where I live in Borders about three weeks after it's out in the US. Must come over on a boat or something... Let me know if you have no luck getting a copy from your travelling pal :D
Have a lovely day everyone and catch you later :D
You are so lucky WDW.
I read about that screening of David's movies in London. Enjoy and I hope you get to ask him all your questions.
Have a great day everyone:)
I was at a friend's house for dinner last night, and I noticed that heath copy of EW sitting on his dining table. Like a fool, I didn't think to read it. :-(
But probably it's online somewhere?
I really really really don't want to be travelling to off-Broadway to see any plays right now. There's yucky snow coming down, and it kepps on coming, and I hate it! :-( If I'm lucky, I will be able to shovel out my driveway and drive to the laundramat half a mile away.
Yes, I love Maggie's hairdo in that picture. :-) I think it's the best and most flattering style she's ever had.
I don't know how much Swedish there is in Peter Sarsgaard, but if you go back far enough ina person's family tree, you can find almost anything. I'd be willing to bet that there are Russian ancesters in both Peter's and Maggie's family trees.
Gosh Peter looks so RUSSIAN
I agree with you, pia. Peter has a very Slavic face. And I should know, I'm Slavic myself. Not Russian, but there is definitely something Slavic people share in the way they look and it makes them look different than,e.g. Anglo-Saxons.
I'd be willing to bet that there are Russian ancesters in both Peter's and Maggie's family trees.
I've read a couple of times that Jake and Maggie have Russian-Jewish ancestry. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Look at me, doing all this ancestors talk, I haven't even said hello.
Hi WDW and everyone!:)
I love David Fincher's movies too. I absolutely adore Fight Club, I know it by heart.I don't know if I would get along with Mr Fincher himself, but his movies are like a vision.
I'm so glad Heath's friends have shared small tidbits about him with us. We never see these people like that.
Atticus, can I adopt you if, I don't know, something happens? Like Jake has a baby and you won't get along with it?
You're an adorable dog. You'll have to go on a considerably smaller budget though.
Have a good evening, everyone.
Daddy pregnant? he always have pms how did that happen? *counts days* Hope this time he have big litter not one. Zodiac me get along everybody. I tell you secret Z I big and vicious and tough and meanlooking but reall softy lovepuppy inner me. Whatsa smallerbudget? Hi there everyone! Just got in - report to follow. Worn out and in need of sustenance :D
Hi Carol!
Hey there Paul :D Sorry to hear you're snowed in :( It was a beautiful day here, London looked gorgeous on the river. I reckon with all those vowels, Peter's gotta have some Skandy blood in him somewhere. Whatever it is, it suits him.
Hi Zodiac! Yes, I heard there was some Russian-Jewish ancestry. D'you know, I've seen all of Fincher's films BUT Fight Club but hearing him talk about it tonight, I realise I've been thinking of it in the wrong way, so I'll give it a go. And what's all this flirtin with Atti? First, Monica O and now you, I'm getting very jealous. I know it's cos I'm a veggie...
Hey Atti! You're being unfaithful again! But yeah, it is possible that Zodiac is, y'know, Zodiac, so don't go in any cellars.... :D
Peter's gotta have some Skandy blood in him
When I first read that I thought it said skanky. LOL
Peter's name is common in Denmark (not in Sweden). He's a Viking.
Hi Devilish Peter :D
Thanks Anon! Viking, eh...
there is something weird about thab B&W photo almost looks like a drawing - can't put my finger on it
oh and my Peter is not a Viking ! tsk football hooligans on the ancient world ! infamy infamy !
I meant football hooligans OF the ancient world...
Hi M! That pic is a little weird - like it though :D Maybe a little Vikingy in a Hollywoody tame way?? I do like this new look of his :D
