Gemma Arterton announces the Bafta noms and the stars head east

While we sit and rest and wait for the latest pictures of Jake 'Where are my jogging shoes?' Gyllenhaal jogging along the seafront of Santa Monica, time to take a look at the next big Awards event, the British Academy Awards of the Baftas, which take place in Covent Garden, London, on Sunday 8 February. After Heath Ledger's success at the Globes last weekend, it's more than possible that the Baftas will see another win, more emotion, another heartfelt ovation.

So, apart from PoP Toby Kebbell, who, as mentioned before, is up for the Orange Rising Star Award, who else that we know is up for a gong? The Dark Knight has nine nominations, including Supporting Actor for Heath. Amongst the opposition is Robert Downey Jr for Tropic Thunder. Benjamin Button has eleven nominations, including Best Director for David Fincher and Best Film. No noms for Anne Hathaway this time, nor Sam Mendes, but I reckon the wife may get some more metalware. You can see a full list here.

Not a little coincidentally, the list of nominees was announced by Hayley Atwell and our very own Princess of Persia Gemma Arterton - you can see the video here.

But it seems like Washington DC is about to outdo the Globes, Baftas and everyone else in starriness - the Obama celebrations will be in full flow and much of the West Coast will be relocating to the East Coast (with coats, and hats, and scarves). Who knows but maybe Jake will be heading East next week? Maggie is closer at hand and will be attending Tuesday's Creative Coalition gala, along with Elvis Costello, Sting, Anne Hathaway and Tim Robbins. You can decide which of the events you'll want to take a look at here, in an exhausting schedule.

It's a good job we've been doing all this jogging lately - we're going to need the energy for the Democratic Knees Up...

Good news about TDK, WDW! That last picture in this post? That one of Jake in a tux, in semi-profile? The longer, Rendition hair? From his last appearance at BAFTA?? That one with the stray curls at his neck????

*ded!*

Hi there Anon! I love that last picture, definitely one of my favourites and one of the reasons why I posted it today is that it reminds me of Jake's hair now. And the same reddiness. I love it :)

I am going to get emotional if Heath won... cos we can see it live on TV (actually it's a delay, so we'll probably find out on the net earlier)...

I wonder if Jake would make a 3rd consecutive BAFTA appearance? And what could we do to make that happen?

*dinner time*

have a good evening, everyone... WDW, I hope your headache is long gone!

Hi Winterbird :) Very emotional for sure. Jake gave us a gap at the Baftas in 2008, will he be back in 2009? We need to get Atti to work on him! My headaches gone, I'm so pleased to say, and really happy it's Friday tomorrow :D

WDW Daddy say when he seen me in blue shiney shorts he busted gut and he don't run today. I broke Daddy WDW. *cries*

I think the only reason Jake appeared as a presenter for the GG was because of presenting David Fincher's movie. I cannot imagine Jake wanting to fly to London just to be a presenter. I know he loves it here, but he has been shuttling back and forth and he may want to not hop on any planes for a while.

I love the first two pictures! I hope Heath continues to win, because he really deserves it!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Oh no, Atti! I'm sure he'll mend soon.. :)

Hi Delilah :D It is definitely a very tall order. I see that the Oscars aren't going to announce their presenters at all - hopefully, the British Academy won't go that far. But, yes, i must be nice for Jake to stay put for a while :D

He really does, BandGeek :) Fingers crossed. I'm so glad you like the pictures.

The Baftas are great. I have a feeling Heath will be rightfully honored once again. I kind of doubt Jake will be presenting there since he is now in LA.

I am overjoyed at all the excitement over the inauguration! This is just such a proud and historic moment for our country and the world, imo. It will be bigger than the Oscars with all the celebs in DC. I wish Jake would be part of that along with Maggie.

LOL, Atti.

It totally freezing here...brrr. Keep safe and warm everyone.

Looking forward to the Baftas now. I'm a bit disappointed that Anne Hathaway didn't get a nomination this time.

Fingers crossed for Heath and TDK again. It would be great if Jake graced us with his presence at the ceremony but I somehow think that's unlikely. There's no harm in hoping though:)

That last picture is one of my favourites aswell. Jake does wear a tux so well. Thanks for posting it WDW.

Have a great evening everyone:)

I'm so tired tonight to post a decent comment, just wanted to say goodnight WDW, and all of you girls.

Thanks for my first morning laugh! :)

I really hope Heath will win the Bafta, too! Although it really hard to watch him win and not be there... :(

Have a good day everyone!

Morning all! Running late today as such a busy day - TFIF :D Good to see you all!

Hi Atti :D You poor thing... that's quite a scare you gave Jake there.

Hey Get Real :D All these inauguration festivities are going to be amazing! I hope we get full reports over here. Keep warm - it's warmed up here, just grey and wet :(

Morning Carol! I was surprised about Anne too. I doubt it too but I do like to dream of Jake in a tux.

Night Monica O *)

Morning Uli! A good word. Mine is skingle - I wonder what one does with one of those...

Have a good day everyone!

That last pic is stunning, WDW, I've never seen it before. Did you take it?

Jake should present at every event of this awards season in order to make up for a miserable Jakeless 2008.
And Heath should win them all. :)

Have a great week-end you all, I'm off for a couple of days...

I am SO pleased Heath got nominated, but I expected him to, just as I expect he will win. This is his year. And it makes my heart ache that we can't share it with him. I was also pleased Brendan Gleeson at least got a nomination. He is a wonderful, often overlooked actor.

Hi Atti :D You poor thing... that's quite a scare you gave Jake there.

That why Daddy no run yesterday said laughing his heart got kardio it need for week. Everyone say Daddy in blue shorts sexy and me I got jealous and I try them but I better naked!

Hi there everyone - I have had a TERRIBLE day! Just got in and ready for a weekend, for sure.

Hey Xenia! Have a good little break. I didn't take this picture, unfortunately. All my photos of Jake are characterised by their earthquake tremors. But it's a lovely photo and I'm so happy I saw Jake that night :)

Thanks for the comment, Anon :D It is wonderful that Heath's Joker is being applauded as it is, especially now, a year on. Some good and sad feelings, but I'm very pleased too. I like Brendan Gleeson :)

Hey Atti! You stick with being naked, and encourage Jake to do the same :D And make him go outdoors again, will you?! No need to be jealous (((Atti)))

John Mortimer has died. He was a national treasure.

I'm really glad Brendan Gleeson got nominated for a Bafta:)

Both himself and Colin were great in In Bruges. Saw a lot of interviews on Irish tv around the time the movie had a premiere in Dublin. Sounded like they had a ball filming and Martin McDonagh is a fantastic writer.

Just read an article on EW about Heath. A lot of former colleagues and friends contributed. I can't believe the year has passed so quickly.

Thank god the weekend has finally arrived. Hope everyone has a good one:)

For some of us, the year has not passed so quickly. Some days it feels like January 22nd, 2008, will never end. If it would just end, we can wake up from what had to have been a bad dream.

When he accepted Heath's award the other night, director Nolan said a hole had been ripped into the future of cinema. But truly, the hole was ripped out of our collective hearts as well.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Delilah - good to see you again :D That is bad news indeed.

Hey there Carol! I didn't know all that about the Gleeson film, thanks! The EW tribute is just wonderful and the subject of tonight's post. I need the weekend too - a very bad day.

Hi Anon, thanks for commenting - for me personally the year has just gone so fast in the sense that I remember 22 Jan like it was yesterday - so vividly. I find it so hard to believe that a year has almost passed. I know it's hard.
