A burning issue... Jake Gyllenhaal's cheeks

It's just one thing after another...After weeks, maybe even months, of Beanie misuse, worry and dispute concerning the length, quantity and colour of The Hair, and recent debate about how far the new Fedora will go... If that's not enough, now we have evidence of that bygone adornment on the face of Jake Gyllenhaal - the Sideburn. While this is obviously not as worrisome as that other facial appendage - The Stache - it is clearly a cause for concern and you can bet we'll be keeping a close watch on Jake's cheeks in the days and weeks to come.

But sideburns are not new for Jake - we have seen them pop up at unexpected intervals, although this can more often than not be blamed on the misguided whim of movie directors and producers. One wonders, do we have another another director to blame? Or is Jake continuing to develop his gangster look (did gangsters have sideburns?)?

Includes pictures from IHJ.

Completely OT but today we had the heaviest wintry weather in these here parts for 18 years, so I thought I'd share a couple of pictures I took today of my home town wearing its white coat.

Seems to me that the side burns have always been there, am I wrong?
I'm just wondering why the heck they call it side "burns". English is always so wonderfully obvious, I bet a Portuguese guy created this name or it would be called "side hair", "chick hair", "side decoration". LOL!

WDW, white coat or not, you live in a beautiful town...I wish São Paulo would be that beautiful. I don't envy the cold weather though. I'm sending some sunshine and warmth your way. ;)

I feel cold just looking at your lovely pictures! Urgh... might snow again here tomorrow...

I think min-sideburns on Jake aren't so bad, but definitely not big-ass ones like Jack Twist in the 70s! LOL..

Ooh Monica O, like the chick hair! I don't know, I think Jake usually keeps the burns under control, but they're growing now.

Thank you - it's beautiful here, particularly when the morning or evening sun shines on the old sandstone but I would love some of your sun! Thanks for sending some!

Hi Winterbird! Noooo, not the Jack Twist sideburns - Wet Sam's were bad enough. I thin there's more snow on the way - I'll be glad when it's the weekend.

I think sideburns fit Jake quite nicely! I especially love them in "Zodiac"!

Haye Bandgeek! How I loved Jake in Zodiac... Lookswise I liked the scenes later in the film. When he looked a bit ruffled :D

WD&W, I can't tell. How many inches of snow did y'all get? Here in my neck of the woods we got 4 inches of sleet topped by another 4 inches of snow last week. Needless to say, we can't wait till spring.

Back on topic, Jake's fascination with the fedora is starting to grate on me. Gah! The hair is looking nicer--when we get to see it.

Good night, wet dark!

I like the new style of Jake. This time the fedora hat is much better with the white shirt.
He is hot. Very hot!:D

Photos of Jack Twist always put a smile on my face. Thank you, wet dark!

Those sideburns are way tooo defined. They remind me of a scene from Inventing the Abbotts when Joaquin Phoenix drew Elvis sideburns on his face to go to a party and impress Liv Tyler, and he looked very ...outre. Maybe Jake is getting ready to audition for another movie or he is getting into character for another part. Not the UMP or the footballer one, but something we don't know about yet? He wouldn't deliberately make himself look so retro for no reason?

I loooooove the sideburns (the actual size, not the Jack Twist ones combined with that horrible fake stache...). You should have included pics from Annie Leibowitz photoshoot and Palms Springs in your post to make everybody see the (sideburns-)light!!!!

Thanks for the pics of your snowy hometown! Saw in the news on CNN today, that Britain ran out of salt! Should I send you some??

Morning everyone! Blizzard this morning and all public transport's been cancelled so I'm stuck at work with a 7 mile walk ahead of me, lovely :(

Hi JoeAnn! Ooh, you have got it snowy. We've got about the same but we can't deal with it and there's noone gritting anything!

Yes, now the hair is so lovely, we deserve to see it, c'mon Jake!

Morning Monica! It's good to see Jack, isn't it? :)

hey Atti! You keep dry and warm now - or you could come over here and build an igloo with me? There are lots in the parks round here!

Hi Laryped :D That's what I was thinking too - if the sideburns are because of a possible role. Hmmm. Fun to speculate!

Morning Uli! Ooh yes, I loved that photoshoot, maybe I should do another post of the good sideburns :D

Yep Britain has no salt. I do have a bit in my kitchen which I can contribute....

Have a good day everyone and sending over the love to Ruby who's a sickie today *)

Hugs to Ruby (although my blogger word is rudio right now...) - hope you will get better soon! But at least you can't get buried in the snow today!

And I hope the public transport will recover before you have to go home... 7 miles in that kind of snow is no fun, WDW... Unless you have cross country skis or are a polar bear...

Ruby said...

Thanks guys. *-) Today is a good day for staying indoors, drinking hot tea and watching DVD's. :)

It sounds like I wouldn't have been able to get to work anyway.

I hope the buses get up and running before it's time for you to go home WDW. If not maybe your man can rescue you!?

I confess I've never thought about Jake's sideburns, and I thought I had anything Jake's under control...they don't bother me though. You can keep them, Jake. ;)

What a lovely sight from your hometown, WDW! I'm freezing just staring at the picture...brrr...:)

Have a great week-end...

Phew! Managed to cadge a lift home and have got the afternoon off. Terrible out there. So I'm relieved to be home - I'm going to spend some time Jaking and baking a cake :D

Waves to Uli!

Hey Rubes - hope you're feeling a little better. Have a hot toddy :D

Hi Xenia! I'm glad I've made you think about Jake's sideburns - after all, these things are important ;) Have a great weekend!

Good to know you are home safe, WDW.

Enjoy your afternoon of Jake and cake. :) Save me a slice.

Atticus said...

WDW you drop cake on floor and swear like a Daddy then I clean up ok!! Rainy Saturday WDW come sit next fire and read Lassiebook to me.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Rubes! All my good intentions and what did I do for the afternoon - fell fast asleep :(

Hey Atti! I'd love to come over and read Lassi for you while you sit and wag your tail :D Get daddy to invite me!

If Atticus wants to walk in snow, we have a lot of it here in Boston. I'd love to see you here, Atti! :-) Just brace yourself for the cold, which has been bitter lately.

I don't think Jake's sideburns are overdone in the pictures you've shown here, WDW. Certainly not as extreme as Elvis had at times.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Paul! This is a long winter, all right. Yes, Jake's sideburnes aren't anything like as bad as they could be, but I just hadn't really noticed them before, except for Jack Twist. I hope you stay warm :)
