Although the quality's not great, we must be grateful indeed to the kind Jake fan who has posted a clip of Jake Gyllenhaal introducing David Fincher - Director in Residence (you just have to hear how Jake says that) - at the Santa Barbara Film Festival a few days ago.
While Jake admits that David's directorial technique is 'tough' on 'fakers' like him 'This is something you need to know - David Fincher has a huge heart - he has painstakingly tried in every single one of his films to avoid giving in to it but it's evident nonetheless - and he has a giant brain... figuratively speaking. An eye like no other, and a thirst for the technical that is unquenchable and a passion for movie making that exceeds that of everyone that I've ever worked with or have known. And I know some pretty crazy people. Unlike his actors, his movies will never grow old.'
David! Don't fight it, give him a job!
Talking of David Fincher, I was chuffed to see a transcript from the Guardian's Q&A with David at the BFI in London that I was truly lucky to attend and flutter my eyelashes through. Although not all of David's spider fears made the transcript, it's great to have a record.
There was some news today about one of Jake's future - hopefully - projects, the Unnamed Moon Project, affectionately known as UMP. It turns out that, for at least the third time, someone else is looking at the script and reworking it. According to THR: '"Black Hawk Down" screenwriter Ken Nolan has been brought on to rework the script for Paramount's untitled moon project. Nolan is the latest writer to bring his take to an action film about lunar colonization that has Jake Gyllenhaal attached to star. Doug Liman, who is producing and directing the film, wrote an original screenplay with John Hamburg ("I Love You, Man"). "Black Hawk Down" book author Mark Bowden revamped that script, then Dan Mazeau did a new version off material compiled from the story work of Liman, Bowden and Simon Kinberg, who also is producing.'
Is it a qualification that those who work on the script have to have been involved in Black Hawk Down? So, while it is assuredly a good thing to have a good script, one has to wonder what kind of state it was in to start with. I remember the account of the Possible Dreams MV auction for a visit to the Doug Liman/Jake Gyllenhaal set. 'Mr. Liman said he had already talked to winner Mr. Burstein, whose son David is a young filmmaker, about sitting in on the writing process for the film at Mr. Liman’s home as a part of the dream.' But, as we said then, at least this means there is life in the old (space)dog yet. However, at this rate, I wouldn't bet on this being Jake's next project.
It seems to me that Doug is clearly still in some need of help for the film that remains unnamed. Perhaps it is time that he called on us - who obviously have a vested interest in the release of a film featuring Jake in Space in Spandex - to give him some direction, while we're all still young enough to enjoy the film. If you have any ideas of possible scenes and plot directions, I'm sure Doug would love to him them. My main suggestions would be a) the requisite naked shaving scene, and b) well, I can't really get past a, to be honest.
Maybe, until the script is settled, Jake will have to pass the time with another film - perhaps one about Joe Namath, say...

Awwww cool video. Jake is that perfect combo of drop dead gorgeous, slightly awkward and geeky, bit shy and funny. Tres bien, thanks for sharing.
Hope everyone is good. Wish Jake had a film coming out soon so I'd have an excuse to meet up with the BAFTA girlies-it's been too long. xxxx
We don't need an excuse LJF! :D Just a weekend without footie!! ;-)
Hi there LJF! It's a fab video isn't it/ and Jake is so adorable - sigh... Yeah! We don't need excuses :D We'd love to see you!
Hey Rubes! Yep, Arsenal have to take a weekend off ;)
That's a pretty adorable introduction that Jake gave :)
And oh yeah! David, give him a job!!!!!
I do think the script is everything to a movie, so I'd prefer that they only start to make UMP until they are happy with the script. Nolan's involvement would be great if that's true.
Oh it was lovely, Winterbird :D
I really don't want Jake to be in a film with a poor script - I want them to get it right. I also want this film made. Let's home this is yet another small step or giant leap in the right direction...
Still young enough to enjoy it, WDF? You mean you think you might grow tired of Jake when you're older? ;-)
Hey Paul! I think you could be write - I'll be loving Jake from my zimmer frame - ahh, what a lovely thought :D
I love this video - good quality or not! Thank you so much for posting it! It is so good to see Jake being Jake - it's been a while. Although I would love to see Jake in a spandex space suit (LOL!)I more want to see him in a football uniform and the many other crazy outfits of Joe Namath. Any news on that project yet? That will be a fun one I think!
Yeay BBMISwear! So good to see you :D I agree about the video - we're so lucky to have it and Jake's speech was just wonderful - funny, passionate and sincere.
I definitely want to see Jake in Spandex more than in a football kit, but at the moment I feel like I'll take any Jake movie! I just want one to come out... :D I've not heard anymore on the Namath project yet, although I'm hoping that Jake still keeping in such fit condition may suggest something's on the cards. Hopefully Jake can knock out at least a couple of films this year :D Me, greedy?!
Just taking a moment to ponder on the joy of spandex..... Hmm, pretty. :)
Spandex took on a whole new meaning the first time I saw Jake in it :D Truly a delight for the senses. Night Ruby!
Awwww - that was beautiful - sincere and from the heart - you can't get a better tribute than that. He definitely has shyness, which is nice for someone famous, it says he's down-to-earth. And he's gorgeous! :)
Awwww, such a sweet and nice speech! Great to hear Jake again and such affection for Fincher is very touching. Jake again showing his adorableness. :D
I hope there is some new Jake movie news too.
My word is deers, lol.
Acting is a good profession for someone who is shy, because it lets them be someone else much of the time. Woody Allen had the classic line on this topic: "I want to be someone else--anyone else."
I am glad that Jake has decided he likes David Fincher. I expect that Jake learned a ton of things from the filming of "Zodiac." I'm curious about how Fincher pulled off some of the scenes in "Benjamin Button" as well.
Good night, wet dark!
I loved everything that he said to David Fincher!
I agree with you, was sincere and passionate!
Wet Dark honey, you have to tell when you place these photos. Almost got a heart attack here.:D
Good evening, WDW. Thank you thank you thank you for this video.
I hate to repeat myself, so I'm keeping my comment in secret. *sigh*
I agree with Monica. We need some kind of alert. Maybe a voice:"SEE PEOPLE IN DANGER! SEE PEOPLE IN DANGER!" and red lights flashing. Then we can open the page slowly, only one eye opened. LOL!
Oh...and I'm accepting any Jake movie these days, as long as they get to the theaters really fast.
Have a good night, ladies.
P.S. Whatever happened to Atticus?
Morning everyone! OMG heaviest snow that I've ever seen in southern England today - amazing! managed to slide to work...
Hi Shy Anon! Absolutely gorgeous :)
Ooh, like the word, Get Real.
Morning Paul - I am so glad myself to see how Jake appreciates and respects David Fincher. I do agree that Jake got a great deal from Zodiac - I think he realises that.
Hey Monica! I'm so glad you liked the pictures :D
Morning Monica O! I couldn't agree with you more - any movie'll do, just one we can see!
OMG the snow!!!
