Lego Jake? and Bono's Jarhead inspiration

It was announced today that Lego and Disney have come to a deal which means that the Prince of Persia movie will have its own line of Lego Construction Toys. While I'm all for a Build Yourself A Life-Size Prince Dastan Lego Kit (which replicates to the last millimetre the body of model Jake Gyllenhaal) - in fact, I might buy enough for a football team - but Prince of Persia Construction Toys? I'm not particularly familiar with 6th-century Persian construction vehicles and, therefore, I am prepared to be amazed. I'm also prepared to get a fleet of them.

When PoP appears in the late spring of 2010, it is quite possible that we will be able to fill our homes with PoP-inspired merchandise. A Jake Gyllenhaal towel perhaps? A pillow case? Maybe a complete set of bedding? While every mantelpiece, shelf and windowsill can be used to reenact the film's scenes with armies of little Jake figures. We will have to get used to sharing Jake and seeing him on the sides of buses.

We are still waiting for Jamie Foxx, although one site today suggested that the video will be seen in March, not February. But while we wait, there is a little bit more information about U2's contribution to the Brothers soundtrack. It appears that Bono was inspired in the composition of White as Snow by Jarhead. 'After watching Sam Mendes's film, Jarhead, Bono decided the song should evoke the thoughts of a soldier dying from a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.' You can read more here about U2's 'most intimate song'. I sense it will grace Brothers. We will hear the song during the first week of March.

While we're talking dates, it wasn't a surprise to see that Pro IMDb has put UMP back to 2011. And then add some...?

Uppp, lady you are fast - I just read that about the Lego, come back here and there it is - what an honour. He can now join the Obamas and a few other noteables :DD

As for merchandise, I can't wait for the jewelery honestly but the towels and bedding?? Anyways, I feel that the pillowcases are going to be BIG sellers! Imagine having Jake just where you want him :DDDDD

Bono is an amazing artist, so unpretentious and passionate. I believe will be on Letterman or Leno as the musical guest for the whole week so hopefully U2 may play a track from Brothers.

All this talk just reinforces how proud I am of this young man and the wonderful film choices that Jake has made ... that people still refer to them down the line - that's the way to immortality.

Hi Sheba! Well, I do like to please :D I think this is great! There's no point doing a big Disney movie if you don't have the promo machine behind you. I'm looking forward to enjoying seeing Jake everywhere - certainly make a welcome contrast to Nailed! I was nonplussed by the idea of medieval construction vehicles...

Jake pillowcases would be delicious, although our men may fight back! Yum at the idea of the jewellery. I bagsy the towels.

I love Bono's music more than I can say and I'm so proud that jake's performance helped to inspire a song that will add to Brothers. As you say films like these leave lasting impressions on us all.

Lego's, LOL! My nephew is the Lego king so I would think about these for him. ;)

I adore Bono and U2. He and the band are so amazing. I had a fantastic run in with Bono at the Toronto Film Festival. He was inches in front of me going into a movie and I was freaking out, lol. So great that he has music for Brothers and was inspired by Jarhead.

What's the name of that old man who gave life to Pinocchio?
Does anyone know his phone number? We're gonna need him after building our real-size-shirtless LegoJake.

Shirtless? You mean pantless. And Prince, tell us lies, tell us lies.

Good morning everyone! 'warm' weather and no traffic as the schools are off :)

Morning Get Real! That's so funny, you can get some Little Jakes for your nephew and then you can play with them :D

That's so cool you bumped into Bono - was that at TIFF 2007? I love the man. A new U2 album is such a big event for me. And I love that this one will have a Jake connection.

Hey Legoland Worldwide HQ! Yeah, PoP Legoland rides!, giant Jake lego statues. You'll definitely need a lot of security :D

Morning Monnie O! I'm thinking Robotic Jakes :D

Hi Growin my own! After all, it's hot in Persia ... :)

Thanks for the laughs on a Monday morning! Have a good day :D

I can't wait for the new U2 album. I just pre-ordered my copy on iTunes.

It's interesting that Jarhead formed some of Bono's inspiration for the Brothers track. The soundtrack for the movie looks like it could be promising.

I saw Jim Sheridan interviewed on the Irish Film and Television awards over the weekend. Unfortunately he didn't mention Brothers when asked about upcoming projects:(

Lego is definitely a blast from the past. It's good to see that the merchandising machine is up and running for PoP already. I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing Jake everywhere. Especially the pillowcases:)

OT I loved all the pics of Jake, Maggie and Peter over the weekend and your Valentine's post WDW. It was great to see them all together again. I couldn't post over the weekend as my boyfriend's sister got engaged so we were in celebratory mood.

Have a great day everyone:)

Hi Carol! I saw that Jim was at the Irish awards at the weekend. It's a shame he didn't mention Brothers. But it will get here eventually... I can't wait to get U2's album! I'm glad you enjoyed the weekend posts - it sounds like you had a fun time :D

The sun is out here and it's really lovely and warm (relatively) :D

I'm sorry I missed the chance to comment on your Valentine's Day post, WDW.
I had hoped to talk about my hope that Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Foner
are settling into their lives apart (it must be hard for recently-divorced couples
on Valentine's Day; then, again, it might be a great relief to be apart. Whichever it is,
I wish them well). Ironically, researchers who have tried to track down divorced
couples to see how they are doing have sometimes found that the couples are still living
with each other. The bad economy often has a lot to do with it, and I don't doubt
that this is happening more than ever right now. :-( On the other side of the coin,
there are couples who love each other madly and yet can't be happy living with each
other. (I used to know a couple like that. It was a relief to many of us that they moved on
to other partners...) We are all so unique....

I'm so happy for Maggie and Peter's opening night, and for the great pictures of Jake and
Maggie at the party afterwards. For the umpteenth time, looking at their faces, I
couldn't help reflecting how totally unique they are, as people and as siblings. I see a
tiny bit of resemblance between Maggie and Stephen, and between Jake and Naomi,
and yet if I didn't know they were related, I could easily be fooled into thinking they
weren't. I can think of other people who look as if they might have been parents
to Jake and Maggie. In any event, however it was arranged, I am so glad to have had
a chance to see the magic spells Jake and Maggie are able to cast on many of us.

This weekend, I saw "He's just not that into you," and "The Reader." The first movie had a strong link to Jake in the person of Drew Barrymore, who was in "Donny Darko" with him. The second movie gave me a chance to make my standard joke about Voldemort, i.e. Ralph Fiennes, who plays the older version of Michael Beck. Early in the movie, when the actor playing the younger Michael Beck is crying in an alley, Hanna (Kate Winslett) asks him, "Why are you crying?" His response should be, "Because I have to grow up to be Voldemort."

Hi Paul :D Thanks for that lovely comment. Valentines and holidays are so hard for couples and families going through these drastic changes, but yes, I do agree that sometimes it's better to just be apart. When I see Jake and Maggie together, I always think how similar they are in certain ways - just with the way they laugh or stare so deeply. But the moles on their faces and the lips really remind me of them both. These days, Maggie is reminding me much more of her mum. Stephen reminds me a lot of Jake but not the other way around, which is odd! We're lucky to have Jake and Maggie :)

Hi there Janie! I'm with you! I have no doubt that i will buy everything going, and treasure it all. They know us too well!
