'I like your shoes' - keeping pace with Jake

If it had not been for the hoodie hood being up (clearly a sartorial no-no on one so hot), it is possible that we may never have noticed that Jake Gyllenhaal was following in the footsteps of generations of British men who genuinely believe that socks and sandals go together like pie and chips. I am willing to give Jake the benefit of the doubt in that it may have been unintentional but, clearly, Jake's stay in England for much of last year may have had a detrimental impact on his clothing acumen. Fortunately, it only appears to have affected Jake from the ankles down.

With the guilt of the nation heavy in my heart for making Jake feel compelled to twin his flipflops/sandals/beachshoes with off-white ankle socks, I thought I would explore the lower reaches of Jake's wardrobe to uncover the footwear that lies within (carefully placed and paired or carelessly tossed and scattered?). You won't be surprised to hear that this meant throwing to one side almost every single pair of Nike known to man, certainly those with the most shox. I have considered Jake's Nike 'thing' before (sharing this addiction myself, albeit on a less than moviestar level) and so the lack of Nike in this post does not reflect its prominence in Jake's cupboards.

It is worth mentioning that Jake's Gyllenhaalics are not alone in having a healthy interest in how Jake keeps his feet dry. Robert Graysmith had a fascination - nay, an obsession - for Jake's shoes, as Jake warily reflected in an article about Zodiac: 'Occasionally, he would glance at things on me, and I'd think, what's he looking at? And he'd say things like, 'I like your shoes. Where did you get them? I had a pair of shoes like that once. What store did you get them from?' And then about an hour into it I realised if I didn't answer a question that he wanted an answer for, he would just throw it back in a different way. He was incessant, almost an obsessive journalist. He wouldn't let things lie.'

If Jake had been in the UK for a little longer, no doubt we would have had enjoyment from Jake in wellies (green, perhaps, if he spent too much time in the home counties). As it is, we must instead enjoy the sight of Jake modelling 2010's winter boots of choice - Persian style.

But when the situation calls for it, Jake knows how to wear the finest dress shoes, sacrificing his crocs and comfort for style and crutches. Jake does persist, on a regular basis, in taunting us with 'The Felt Clogs', presumably because their comfortability makes up for everything else...

...but other old familiars have become favourites - the scuffed boots, for example.

While the next couple of years holds the promise of Jake in dancing shoes and baseball boots, we have still the pleasure of cowboy leather and army beetlecrushers to enjoy.

As Jake clearly can't please us all, all of the time, maybe it's just best to go without.

Includes pictures from IHJ and foorwear from Jake.

Those PoP boots, they mean business! :)

Like the rest of his body... I confess I do prefer a barefoot Jake... this guy needs no garment on him.

I do think a good pair of boots is a man's best friend (well, in Jake's case, next best friend, as Atticus is the best friend :P)

Great... errmm... shoes post :)

hey Winterbird - well, I thought I've done an eyebrow post, the least I could do is a shoe post - ahem... I love the PoP boots, I can see them everywhere next year - just with UGG written on the back of them. After watching Confessions of a Shopaholic last week, I feel qualified to post about shoes. But yes, less is best when it comes to Jake and clothes :D

I have a thing for men's feet.

p

(I mean nice men, not manky or random men :D )

Hey, my word is nomen, no men, is that an omen?

Ruby said...

A, tell us more about your foot thing ;-)
(you can leave out the manky part)

I like a man in boots, myself.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Nouskie :D I have an anti-feet thing, I hate feet - although, obviously, I realise they are useful and the more attractive the man, the more acceptable his feet. I have been able to deal with Jake's feet on a loving level, because a) they are usually encased in something I do love - Nike and boots! and b) I have a thing for Jake, as one might have noticed :D

Hmmm, interesting word - is that 'nobody'?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Rubes! Posting at the same time... I don't want to hear about manky feet. I'm not sure I want to hear about A's foot thing, so I may shut my ears.... I like a man in boots too - if it's got less than 9 eyelets I'm not interested.

Anonymous said...

Rubes, we'll take it offline ;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Please do, you foot pervs, you...

My word is shrimp :)

Ruby said...

Anouska, I think you need to share it with the Jake-lovin' world. :D

WDW, would they be kinky biker-boots wth multiple eyelets?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I'm a biker chick - multiple eyelets are a safety feature.

The Jake-lovin' World is not necessarily ready for Anouska's foot fetishms, regardless of whether that's a real word or not.

TDigs...men in boots! Oh I love the PoP boots. They amuse me too, 9th century persian boots...with their very modern soles. Do you think (theorizing wildly here)there had to be some measure of modern 'grip' to cope with the parkour? Or maybe, more likely I admit, it was just cheaper!
I'm swotting up on all things Persian at the mo - its everywhere in London currently - and utterly fascinating.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

TDigs, you must be a mindreader! When I was posting that pic of the Persian boots, I was reflecting on how those soles looked a little post-medieval at the least! I like the idea of it being because Parkour needs the extra grip :D Persian medieval history is fascinating. And I love how it can get a twist, in the games and in the movie.

That last picture is very, very nice but it doesn't make me think of feet at all! :D

I have nothing against feet but they aren't my favorite body part. Especially on Jake where there are so many fantastic parts to choose from!

What exactly are wellies?

Olympia

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Olympia! I got distracted with that last pic... I'm with you, I'll go with those other delicious Jake body parts :D

Wellies are wellington boots (as worn by Paddington Bear and almost every Brit since the Duke of Wellington himself - the inventor of the welly - took on Napoleon). The country gentry set are well known for their green wellies. They think it helps them blend in more. Most of the rest of us have black wellies or wellies decorated with daisies or other flowers :)

Oh! Thanks for the explanation, it's a british term then. And I love Paddington Bear, I used to watch it on television when I was little, but in french so that's why I never heard that word.

I go mad over feet. my daddy had beautiful feet, I suppose that's what got me started.

although I don't quite understand, dear WDW, what the last *cough cough* picture has to do with feet - I always assumed it had to do with something else.

however, it is a fact that in the Old Testament "feet" is a common euphemism for genitals. To "cover the feet" is usually a euphemism for covering the genitals.

so I guess you're in the ball park

speaking of ball park, Im watchng damn Yankees tonite.

hi everypeeps. it's 13 degrees in western MA now but gonna be warm and rainy the end of the week.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Olympia, I love Paddington Bear too! Some of my earliest memories are of being read those stories :)

Hey Pia! Posting at the same time :D Some chilly temperatures over there. We've had it so mild and suny over here for the last week - like spring, with barely the need for a coat - and then today storms, which have had me running for cover! Trees blown down round here.

I can't stand feet, it's a sad but true fact. Feet are clearly useful but that's as far as it goes for me. I couldn't help the last picture - naked Jake looking at his feet ;D

This was so much fun! I'm LMAO! I stare and stare at pictures of Jake every single day but never have spent this much time looking at his feet before!

I miss how much he use to wear Nikes, I love his 'scuffed' boots, it warms my heart to see him in cowboy boots but barefoot is the best I think (as already mentioned here).

Thanks for this bit of fun tonight!!

xoxo

you bunch of pervs! LOL! How can you look at the feet of an innocent boy with eyes like these?
(cough! cough!)

Well, I can't see a man in sandals, flip flops or whatever, with or without socks. It simply takes him to the lower place in my list of hotness.
Oh Atticus, my love, here is another shoe to be chewed. For me, baby...do it! Save your Daddy from the bottom of my list...
I love jake in boots thou.

I've been busy, WDW. And missing you guys sooo much!

xoxo

I think I said it before, hehe, but I love Jake in "real" shoes - so Yay! for the scuffed boots!!!

I am absolutely no fan of flip flops, but I have to admit Jake made me try that brand that he was wearing throughout 2006 on... But they didn't fit - I can't remember exactly why, but I think my toe just didn't fit into that tiny loop... LOL! I think I am glad, though! Cause I am afraid I would have bought them - and I would have never worn them, cause I just can't stand the feel of flip flops... :D :D :D
I wonder what happened to Jake's. I think we haven't seen them in a long time! And neither the green shorts with the white stain on them!

About feet... I think beautiful feet are a wonderful thing... But unfortunately there are not that many beautiful feet in the world. I remember back in the day when I was sitting in the university's library to study there was always a very attractive guy there... My friend and I called him lovingly Camel Man, cause he looked kind of manly and a little bit weather-beaten... (not like the camel man from the ads, with moustache and shit... :D :D, just kind of manly).
And the best about him were his feet! They were beautiful... He used to wear sneakers barefoot and he took them off once in a while... And isn't it, that usually feet that get out of shoes when they were barefoot in them look a bit battered? Not his!!! They aaaalways looked perfect! My friend and I were faszinated!!! Couldn't keep our eyes off his feet! :D :D :D

Oops, gotta run to work! Have a good day everyone!

Oh, wait - a special hello to MonicaO - I missed you, too! :)

And where is Atticus these days? Busy chewing Jake's shoes??

And a wave to Pia - long time no see! How was Damn Yankees?

Okay, now I'm off!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone! Lovely day after the storm last night :) Thanks so much to everyone for the laugh last night!

Hey there BBMISwear! Well, I'm glad you were able to pay some attention to such a neglected part of Jake's body. I did have such a laugh doing this post :D

Morning Monica O! Ooh ye, more shoes for Atti to chew. I do prefer feet in their place - which is deep inside a boot or shoe - but, maybe Jake will cure me of my aversion :D We've missed you a lot! I hope you're less busy now :)

Hey Uli - OMG, that is so funny - you and your Camel Man with the beautiful feet (doesn't sound like the rest of him was up to much...). Poor guy, with you two staring at his feet all day - talk about rpessure to have beautiful feet!

I remember those sandals, weren't they rainbow sandals or something like that? They looked very uncomfortable. I think Atti must already have done those in... Missing the shorts though :)

Have a great day everyone!

Uli said...

Oh, I think I was using the wrong words to describe Camel Man... He really looked very good. Blond, slightly curled hair, tanned...
LOL, with weather-beaten I meant the surfer guy kind of weather-beaten - not the totally fucked up kind of weather-beaten...

Yeah, Jake's flip flops had a little rainboy tag on them.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ahhh, Uli :) Now he sounds like Matt McCantrememberhowtospellithey - sounds good!

Interesting Gyllenshoe rundown. ;) Although the new sandals with socks...:/

I do like the hoodie though! :)

OT question to all you Brits. What do you think of the coverage of Gordon Brown coming to the White House? I know there were some issues yesterday but having watched the video of the PM and President Obama I thought it was a good meeting. I was taken aback at some of the coverage, especially by the Telegraph.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Get Real! I do like Jake in hoodies :D

I'm afraid to say I've not been around much news lately to see how the visit of Gordon Brown in Washington is going down here. Although I was surprised to see him there - because he was in my home town on Friday and I nearly got run over by his police escort! Personally, I'm thrilled to see Brown and Obama together. I'll have to have a look on the news tonight.

Hope you're having a good day and that it's not too snowey :)

Hi WDW, thanks for the response!

The reason I asked it that I think the coverage from BBC, The Guardian has been pretty balanced. Wheras the Telegraph has been pretty harsh. Was just curious if they are a conservative paper?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Get Real :D Yes, the Telegraph is a real Tory rightwing paper, which definitely shows up on occasions like this one. My dad's been readig it for years and I keep trying to wean him off it! I much prefer the Guardian and Independent.

Anonymous said...

Ah, okay, thanks for that WDW. I figured as much by their coverage.

Hope you are having lovely day! :)

And Jake is hot, even if he is wearing awful socks with sandals. ;p

sheba said...

*Fangirl moment* .....Jake's PoP boots are sooooooo sexy, especially when the top half is naked. OMGosh *hot flush*....

*Fangirl moment passess slowly*...

Hi Get Real. The press coverage on Obama/Brown is being scruitinised and overblown I think because of the former relationship between Bush/Blair and their 'special relationship' even though it didn't reflect the view of the British people. 20 minutes is more than enough to introduce oneself and there will be plenty other opportunities for them to have more personal time especially when Obama comes to London soon for the G8 summit. There are much more pressing matters than backslapping and small-talk with the world in the state its in. Now can you imagine our President of the Jake Gyllenhaal Fan Club WDW having 20 mins with Jake? How much can be achieved in all that time??? :DD 30 seconds would do for me ;D

sheba said...

...And BTW, what has the last picture got to do with shoes...? LOL! but thank you anyway ;D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Oh yes, Get Real! Nothing Jake can ever wear will ever lessen his hotness for me :)

Hey Sheba! I could achieve a great deal in 20 minutes with Jake, that's for sure - definitely best just to skip the introductions... Admittedly, the meeting wouldn't help the world's economy but oh well, never mind :D

In that last picture, I like to think that Jake is contemplating his feet, therefore it is entirely on topic :)

McCantrememberhowtospellithey spent carnaval in Brazil and he looked oh-God-Why-So-Handsome. And he's got nice feet too.

WDW, love to hear that you guys missed me. {{{{WDW&Co}}}. but I doubt if you've missed me more than I miss Atticus right now.
