A model actor - Jake Gyllenhaal

Today, while on my daily quest to find some coffee that I can walk around with, I stumbled across a photoshoot. The model, whose hair was subjected to vigorous fluffing by a professional every two minutes, appeared to be modelling umbrellas, which I thought fortuitous because it was too wet for ducks.

I watched for a few minutes until I grew bored of the 'Lift it up' and 'Put it down' nature of the conversation. But it made me think about how unnatural a situation a photoshoot is, especially when one isn't a professional model but is someone else, say Jake Gyllenhaal, for instance (picking a name at random...).*

The extent to which Jake Gyllenhaal should be dressed has preoccupied innumerable photographers - sometimes they get it wrong, oh so wrong...

So it's probably best to have a different approach...

or hint using The Calvin Klein Method.

Some photographers have demanded Jake interact with stress balls and light switches,

while others like to place him in The Great Outdoors.

The correlation between water and what is does to Jake's shirts has long been a subject of study for the world's leading scientists and meteorologists.

If you want an animal to look less cute, put it next to Jake.

Why some photographers have chosen to remove Jake's head is beyond reason.

If in doubt, put Jake in/on/above/next to/under a bed.

Or stick Jake in/on a car and get the male readership.

Models have to be watched when they're round our Jake...

Jake has been photographed with books, while photographs have also hinted at hidden talents.

Put too many of these elements together in the same photograph and it can produce the 'Ick Factor'.

And no study of Model Jake can be complete or indeed worth having without another look at the much watched and much loved Vanity Fair photoshoot.

*This study is based on the serious and comprehensive analysis of hundreds of photographs of Jake Gyllenhaal that present him in various states of undress and in a range of positions and situations. It was a difficult task but I threw myself into it.

And finally...

To end on a serious note, Jake Gyllenhaal's name was one of those added to a letter today appealing for action from world leaders and the UN after the democratic leader of Burma, Aung San Suu Kyi, was arrested for 'breaching the terms of her house arrest', a condition she has endured for almost two decades. I am proud to see Jake's name on the list.

Includes pictures from IHJ and WDW.

That Vanity Fair video never gets boring does it? :D
I wish I could lip read.

I was worried there for a bit, thinking you'd forgotten the Vanity Fair shoot, but I should have known you wouldn't. :D

Hey Rubes, fortunately I can lip read and Jake clearly says 'What are you waiting for, WDW? Give us a hug.'

Ey up, Anna :D I thought for a minute or two of leaving it out but then I knew I'd get comments from people asking why and then I'd have to add it :) But it is quite possibly the best vid of Jake outside of the movies - Jake doing what he does so well, being hot, flirty and gorgeous - and did I say hot?

Nice pics! (except that shower wet Jake pic - that photographer should stay away from Jake forever)

I always wonder about that "roadkill" pic of Jake though... LOL. I mean, Jake looks dreamy and gorgeous and the green brings out his eyes... but lying down on the side of the road??!??

Good to hear that Jake is on the list of the letter to try to get Aung San Suu Kyi released. The whole incident just stinks. I am not surprised if that crazy American was told by the government to get into her house. *sighs*

OMG Roadkill Jake! Love it, Winterbird :D A great description of a wonderful but odd pic.

I'm very happy to see Jake on that list too. After all these years, something must be done.

The wind has dropped here at long last :)

Your use of "fortuitous" is the context of the first paragraph - you want to say she was "lucky" that she had an umbrella over her head while raining? Or you would like to say that, "by chance", it was raining that day?
Or you like to say in fact she was "fortunate" and so, no use for the word fortuitous there?

"fortuitous"=
1. Happening by accident or chance.
2. a. Happening by a fortunate accident or chance.
2. b. Lucky or fortunate.
(the free dictionary)

New To English - I fear my life is too short to answer that question. But... to give you the benefit of the doubt, due to your name, how about a bit of all 3?

Thanks for clearing that up.

It was really fortuitous that you came across that photoshoot today and even more fortuitous that you thought of the random name of Jake Gyllenhaal to demonstrate the oddness of some photoshoots. And is it maybe exceptionally fortuitous that you managed to include a certain pic in your post?

(probably a bit of all 3, too...)

LOL at roadkill Jake, winterbird!

And yeah, I also will never get tired of that Vanity Fair video!!

Sweet post, WDW!

Agree, good to see Jake's name on that letter! :)

Have a good evening, everyone!

Hey Uli! Odd, wasn't it, how Jake came to mind when I saw the photoshoot? One could almost call it fortuitous. Ahhhh The Photo - unfortunately, when I'm doing a post on odd photoshoots, you've got to have Ukelele Jake :D I know you love him (someone has to - ahem..._. Glad you like the post!

Laughing and Laughing and Smiling and Smiling...I love this post! So many great pictures (that I will never get sick of seeing no matter how many times I look at them!) and such wonderful commentary...I really laughed out loud throughout!!

Lookin' Good! :-)

Ahhh...the VF video...I could watch that over and over and over and over and over....

:)

Thanks WDW some of my fave pics included in this post and one or two not so faves (especially that shower one which should never have been allowed to see the light of day in my opinion) :) A nice way to end another Manic Monday.

That Vanity Fair shoot clip is great. VF always do great shoots. I am a great fan of both the magazine and their website. To digress slightly I'm particularly fond of one that they did with James Franco around the time of the release of Milk in the US aswell.
Unfortunately I don't think there is any video clip for that one.

It's great to see all the celebrities that have signed that petition for Aung San Suu Kyi. It just makes me mad when I stop and think about all the injustice in the world. The variety of people from all walks of celeb land on the petition was good to see.

Hope everyone has a good Monday evening:)

BBMISwear! I am so happy that this post made you smile and laugh - I had so much fun doing it too. And we will never tire of that video - we're very lucky to have it *)

Hey Carol! That shower pic without doubt is my least favourite pictue of Jake! Dreadful - what can the photographer have been thinking of...

It's good to see such well known names making their feelings clear on such an issue. Such a good way to bring attention to the issue. I hope it helps.

Thinking of that shower pic again - it's strange how one photographer can show how sexy Jake is in all that water, while another manages somehow to remove all sexiness from him - quite an achievement! Fortunately, a very rare one :)

PS for BBMISwear - Lookin' good :-)

Great posts, and lucky model ;) - good to see Jake again and he is looking wonderful lately (I'm a scruff lover), (but when are we going to see a new movie!) and I have never thought he takes a bad picture, even the watered down one. :)

I was happy to see Jake's name on the list of those who are appealing for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi. The harrassment has gone on for far too long.

:-)

Hey Bertie! Oh, I'm so ready to hear that Jake is back at work making another film for us - I'm so greedy. It's been 5 months. Before Jake feels like singing Crazy again I'd love to know he's back in front of the camera.

Yes! What lucky models :D

I'm so happy seeing Jake's name on that list. A good day :)

Great post, WDW! We appreciate how hard it must have been to do this research and what a sacrifice it was! :DD That shower picture is really bad. The first time I saw it I wasn't even sure it was him. :) He kind of looks like one of the Baldwin brothers.

Ah! The VF video, a classic for any gyllenhaalic! The good thing about it having only music and no sound is that we can concentrate on just looking at Jake. It`s like listening to a radio interview with him, there`s just one thing to concentrate on and savor. Am I the only one who closes my eyes when Jake does the voiceovers in Jarhead? I love his voice...

Good morning everyone! Good to see the sun :)

Hi there Olympia :D I know, it was tough, hours sacrificed to examine hundreds of pictures of Model Jake, but I got through it... Oh, I love Jake's voice! The voiceover for Jarhead is hypnotic.

Have a good day everyone!

Hi all just going off topic but the first trailer for Sherlock Holmes is now online. Looks really good. Can't wait for December:)

Hi WDW, lovely post on a miserable day. I will from now on associate the word 'fortuitous' with Jake, which I think is an appropriate association.

I recognise the 'Lookin Good' - wasn't that what Jake wrote on that car photo for you, BBMISwear?

Thanks for telling us about the petition, so glad Jake added his name. Gosh her poor staff who were arrested with her are probably terrified.

BBMISwear said...

Hey...it's so cool Lookin' Good is being remembered! Thanks for noticing TD! I still can't believe he said that as he wrote it (complete with a smiley face with a nose). A nose! I thought that was the cutest thing in the world...Ted thought I was a freak...LOL!

Ouch this hurts :))
Jake is walking perfection...
Thank you WDW..
Big smile and hug to you :D

Ahh, ita with Ruby about the Vanity Fair video and omg that topless Mario Testino shot where he is looking down...SWOON!!!

Good for Jake and all those that signed that petition for such an important issue and to help that leader of Burma.

A busy day almost over :)

Thanks for the info, Carol! I'll look for that when I get home. I'm rather tired of Sherlock Holmes but I'm intrigued by this version.

Hi TD! I do agree - everything about Jake is indeed fortuitous and perfect - and hot :D

It certainly is remembered, BBMISwear! That was one of my favourite parts of the adventure. :-) That and the bit about Zodiac DVD extras!!

Thanks Flower! Glad I gave you a smile :)

That pic should come with a warning, Get Real - so hot it's untrue :D

Thanks WDW, you spared my eyes :DD

It was fortuitous that I stopped by here today to see Jake happenings and like many here have had some LOL moments looking through the pictures and the comments (wet Jake, saucer eyes Jake etc). Thanks guys. Yeah, I feel Jake should be synonymous with the word 'fortuitous' as many of us really have had that 'connection' just by a serendipitous trip to the cinema on a cold grey January afternoon that's started a deep, long lasting admiration and respect for a guy that's trying to live his life the best way he can.... choosing to love....... comforting the disturbed and disturbing the comfortable through his movies......

As for putting his name to the petition I'm so proud of him stepping up to the plate like that. Dr Thurman his former lecturer at Columbia University has been proactive in his support of Tibet and Burma. I've been following the ASSK story for about three years and has formed some great discussion with my groups. When celebs stand up for causes like this it really does raise awareness and the more people know about a situation, the more they can put pressure on government to support and push for change.

Here's to peace and love.... Jake love :DD

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sheba! Fortuitousness, serendipity - these are good words to describe Jake and to describe Jake and us. I know I feel lucky and fortunate. I've followed the Burma story for years too. I hope it has now been brought to a head and something can happen. But I think it's quite desperate. Hopefully, stars can use their names to raise a wider awareness but I do wish that wasn't necessary. Sigh.

New post :)
