'Hairless and pretty' - Jake Gyllenhaal's hands

One expects an actor to know how to express himself with his body but even so, the artistry with which Jake Gyllenhaal puts his hands and fingers to work when put before the camera is spellbinding.

Whether it's to animate a funny anecdote, to emphasise a passion, or simply as part of a self-portrait, Jake's enthusiam in interviews and press conferences pours through his fingertips.

As David Fincher says in his Zodiac commentary (for the scene when Jake translates and writes out the Zodiac code in the San Francisco Chronicle office to Avery): 'We had to retouch the knuckles of this scene because Jake's hands are very hairless and pretty. The double that we had doing a lot of the writing and drawing had much hairier hands, so we went back and retouched the knuckles so Jake wouldn't feel like we'd done him a disservice!'

Sometimes with rings, more often without, with an occasional freckle and despite nails sometimes chewed, Jake's hands and fingers are beautifully expressive and reflect perfectly his animated conversation and gift for communication. I hope that soon we'll enjoy this again.

As for the most perfect example, look no further - I need only say Jakes on a Plane.

Tent don't look right

Last night was Pet Shop Boys night in the O2 arena, or Millennium Dome. If there was a theme it was cubes Dancers and set wore boxes of colour. It wasn't an emotional show - the duo didn't connect with the massive audience - but it was perfectly choreographed and executed and it was a work of art. As for the Dome, I didn't know what to admire more - its construction with the great orange/yellow struts or for its array of restaurants. It even had dodgems...

And finally

Thanks to PlayUSA, my copy of Confessions of a Shopaholic arrived today and so time to settle down, with the pause button handy, to this.

This post is dedicated to Gretchen and all other lovers of Jake's hands. Includes pictures from IHJ.

Oh, you are so right about Jake's hands not only being beautiful, but also wonderfully expressive!! You picked some great pics to demonstrate! And thanks for that video - it was so good to revisit some of Jake's funniest interviews! The one with Conan O'Brien is really one of the best!!! And the powerful moves with his arms and hands when singing the Dreamgirls song...
I can't believe how long ago all that is. I hope we will soon get to see more of it!!

I am sorry that the PSBs didn't connect with the crowd - especially because one week ago I was at a show (err, twice, LOL) where that was entirely different. Damn DID they connect - it gave me goosebumps and sometimes tears in my eyes...
But maybe the connecting is not part of the concept of the PSBs? I have never seen them live or any footage of it...
But it seems you still enjoyed it.
I love Neil Tennant's voice, so cool and arrogant...
From the picture it seems you had seats, so I guess you will need less recovery time than I did last week! I was exhausted from all the standing for hours... :D

Have a good evening! :)

Hey Uli! I loved picking the pics for tonight's post, loved it. Jake's hands are beautiful wherever you look, so I thought I'd focus on Jake's hands in conversation or on talk shows. They're stunning.

I don't think anyone minded that the PSBs were aloof - I think it's part of their persona. I'm not a big fan so I was more dispassionate. I really enjoyed the show though - fanstastic dancers and Neil Tennant's voice was even better than it soudns on disc. I think you were at concerts that meanst a great deal to you and they delivered for you - that's wonderful. The standing crowd for the concert was huge! The last time I did that was for Robbie Williams two years ago and it wore me out! I go for the seats now. It was great to travel home with Mr and Mrs Ruby too :)

I'm having a lovely evening watching Confessions and it's only moments from the PoP poster scene!! Good to hear from you :D

Hey Gretchen! Oh those are lovely pics! I especially like the one of Peter and Jake. I decided that I'd limit this post to the interviews because Jake is so expressive in them - I love how he talks with his hands. I've done posts on Jake's hair and eyes before but I'm always happy to revisit them as they well deserve the attention :) Jake has so many lovely bits...

Love the rocking pic and the masterly linkage :D

I'm having such a lovely evening, hope eveeryone else is!

Good night, wet dark!
I don't know what to say on his hands, because to me they seem normal.
I loved the photos and videos, especially in Cannes. Cannes was unforgettable!

Wow! We love post about his gorgeous body parts, don't we?

His hands should make him a hands model, if his other parts aren't equally too gorgeous to ignore!

I need to watch that POP clips again.

Met some brokies today for a small picnic, they sent their hi and regards to you, WDW :)

Hi there Winterbird :D I think Jake has the most expressive hands.

Ooh, that's wonderful that you had a Brokie picnic today. I was thinking of you and thanks so much for the best wishes. A big hi to them too *)

That's good news, Monica! And hopefully it bodes well for other parts of the world too. Thanks very much for the link :D

Yay! The hands post! What a great selection of pictures and videos, I bet you had fun choosing. :)

The first couple of times I saw BBM in the theatres (I saw it 10 wonderful times, I had never done that before), I couldn`t understand why I was enjoying so much some of the scenes when nothing really happened , like the first morning on the mountain where Jack says how he can`t wait to get his own spread or when Jack is waiting by the fire drinking whisky waiting for Ennis after the bear incident. I finally realised during my fourth viewing that those were scenes where Jake`s hands are very much on display. :) I`m not sure why I love them so much, maybe it`s because they look so elegant and strong at the same time. And they are extremely expressive.

Are we getting a BBM post tomorrow (it' s still Saturday for me)? Can`t wait!

Hi Don't Make Me Come Over There...! I think this is good news for the US too - distribution is spreading. It reminds me of Zodiac - I couldn't wait for the UK release and so had to see it in LA! I hate the gaps.

Hey there Olympia! I'm so glad you enjoyed the post - 'elegant and strong' - I like that. My favourite BBM scene for Jake's hands is whn he wrings out his neck chief and then dabs at Heath's wound. I'll never forget that scene.

I usually save Brokeback for Sundays - it gives me more time and the day seems perfect for reflection. So, barring Jake getting himself papped tomorrow, there may well be a BBM post :D

It's been great for me, hearing what readers want to read in posts, and I hope that continues :) I want to do another poll...

I agree that Jake has nice hands. is sister does, too.

Speaking of his sister, I saw "Away we go" the other night, and enjoyed her lighter-than-air performance. It was so much fun!

Have Great Day.. we have little earthquake here but not that ugly, few seconds.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Flower :) OMG, I'm glad you're ok after that earthquake!

There have been a couple of sightings of Jake in Washington DC - the last one was just a minute ago

Tweet link)

He was seen in Georgetown a couple of days ago with Owen Wilson (who's in Reese's new movie).

Clearly nobody has cameras in DC - sigh :(
