'It's a family affair' - a new Brothers TV Spot and Atticus' supercool photoshoot adventure

We have a new TV Spot for Brothers, courtesy of IGN. In this one, the emphasis is on power, force, threat, suspicion and rage. Raw emotion sees Jake Gyllenhaal sobbing on the floor, Tobey Maguire reaching for the gun and Natalie Portman caught in the middle of a family ripped apart.

Tweets inform us that Natalie Portman will be attending another Brothers screening at the DGA theatre in LA today and she too, like Jim Sheridan last week, will be giving a Q&A afterwards. So what about next week? Can I make some suggestions?

Filming on Jake's current film, Love and Other Drugs, meanwhile, continues to disturb the traffic.

I was reading through one of my movie magazine subscriptions this week and was tickled to see that Jake is being used to sell Blu-Ray. Apparently, if you watch a Jake Gyllenhaal Blu-ray disc it's like having him in the room, all dripping. In that case, I'll take a dozen. The original photoshoot for this was for Entertainment Weekly, back during the publicity for The Day After Tomorrow. This week, the photographer - James White - has been reminiscing about this and other shoots and it turns out this was quite a traumatic day due to naughty fleet-footed Atticus.

'I can't remember the name of the movie but there was a lot of rain involved... I thought that the water would be warm and it wasn't. So there was a water truck and we were spraying him down with like supercool water outside. But he was a real trooper. Unfortunately, when he came to the set, his dog ran off. So everyone got in the car and we were patrolling the whole area of Santa Monica, round Trader Joe's...', 'looking for Jake's dog?' 'Yeah, actually most of the day was wasted looking for Jake's dog, which luckily he found... But, so I think, at that point he was so happy we'd found his dog, he didn't mind being submersed in freezing cold water.'

Postscript: I saw 2012 this weekend. Was there a Prince of Persia trailer as we had been led to believe? Er... NO!!!

Includes pictures from IHJ and WDW scan.

Atticus, you were naughty naughty!

What an interesting story though, I am sure Jake would have done anything to thank the people who found his dog!

I am so jealous of certain people getting to watch Brothers while I have to wait til 2010!!!! life is not fair! I might have to resort to piracy! heh!

Good Jaking evening!

Hey there naughty Atticus! You certainly gave Jake the run around :D

Hi Winterbird! I really enjoyed this story - a very human side to the glamour of a photoshoot (if you can call having freezing cold water chucked over you gamorous!).

It's just not right that we have to wait that longer bit for Brothers. I may have to do something about that...

I hope everyone has had a good evening and, if you're in Britain, done all right in these horrible gales. Plenty of trees down round here.

At least you have a release date, winterbird... I just went to IMDB and saw that there isn't even a date for Germany... I could have sworn there once was one... :( If at least there was one for Slovakia... But nada... :( Or if only it would start a bit earlier in Denmark - like at Christmas... Or in Britain - like around New Year ;) Sigh...

And, wow, those Brothers trailers get more and more intense!

Hey, Atticus, long time no see! :)

I saw today on YouTube that there is already a German PoP trailer, too... So I guess they might be showing it in cinemas here already, too... Not going to check out 2012, though, LOL!

Hi Uli! I hope you get a date very soon - the German trailer is a good sign. That trailer is very intense - I really liked it :)

Wow...is this what I'm going to see on my TV one day? Tommy sobbing on the floor? I might cry myself :-(

Intense indeed...this movie gets more intense with every new scene we see. I'm so envious of the people getting to see these private screenings. And let's hope for you know who to do the Q&A for the next one (although with his busy filming schedule that may or may not be possible for him). Hmmmmmm.

Poor Atticus...lost on the streets of Santa Monica! So glad they found him. Great behind the scenes story...thanks WDW!!

(TDAT type weather here today...UGH)

aw Jaaaake.. ♥_♥ that just brought up a very adorable image in my mind.he is just impossible to dislike.
if he did that shoot for TDAT promo, that would be 2004 and he got Atticus that year right?i guess Atticus wasn't fully trained.lol poor Jake.first lost his dog then got sprayed freezing water on.(and that is one shoot i don't particularly like very much)

whoever's doing the trailers&promo clips for Brothers is doing a horrible job.i feel like they have shown the entire movie.jfc.that's not how trailers should be.and don't even get me started on that voice over.....

no release date for me either.i'll probably be able to see Brothers february-march 2010,earliest. :(

btw where's Jake?

good night everyone.

Morning! And the sun's out :D

Hi BBMISwear :-) It's gonna be intense all right - I'm getting rather nervous! It's good news that Natalie is now involved in publicity - maybe this bodes well for Jake to join in. I hope your weather's brightened up too :)

Hey Gretchen :D That's not one of my favourite photoshoots either. I always worry looking at it that Jake could get a chill and now I think that even more! But I love the story.

I much prefer these TVspots to the original trailer. I find them very powerful and they make me want to see the film even more (that's trying to take off my Gyllenhaalic hat and trying to imagine how I'd feel). But yeah totally agree on the voiceover. The wait for this film is rubbish for many of us - it's gone on far too long.

Judging by all the tweets, Jake has spent a considerable amount of time during the last 24 hours in Pittsburgh's Whole Foods! Which reminds me, I've not had any breakfast yet...

My pleasure, sweetpea :D

Have a good day everyone! OMG, my word is squee..

That story about Atticus running away is pretty cool, though I sympathize with Jake and the cold water. Nevertheless, he used to work as a lifeguard, and would have been hardy enough to jump in the cold ocean at a moment's notice.

Last night I saw "2012," which delivered all that it promised. The biggest link to Jake was Oliver Platt, who will be in "Love and other Drugs" with Jake.

Every time anyone refers to "PoP," I think of "Prince of peace," not "Prince of Persia."

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Monica! That young lady is a vry talented actress - she's certainly won over a fan there :D

Hi Paul! That's true.

There's another 2012 link too - George Segal (on the cruise ship) is Jake's dad in Love and Other Drugs. Mind you, there's such a big cast, I'm surprised it's not more!

I hope everyone's having a good Sunday :D

Paul - you saw 2012 but didn't mention seeing the PoP trailer before it. Should we assume it was not shown then? What was with this rumor about the PoP trailer playing with 2012? Sounds like exactly that - a rumor. *pouts*

I'll try to be patient...it's not as if we don't have plenty of time to see PoP stuff everywhere over the next 6 months! I'm actually more concerned about seeing Brothers stuff right now. Talk about trying to be patient!!

Happy Sunday!

:-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there My bet :)

Hey BBMISwear :-) I forgot to ask Paul that crucial question! It definitely felt like more than a rumour as it came from the movie sites, but maybe they were misfed info. You're right though, there's going to be so much over the next six months. Brothers opens in the US in three weeks, I'm definitely ready to hear more about that!

The PoP trailer was shown with
"2012" in many theaters. But obviously only in the USA.

The trailer got good reactions according to the guys over at "Box Office Mojo".

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Carla! Shame it was so limited but good to know the reception was positive. Did anyone here see it?

JoeAnn said...

Just got back from seeing 2012. They showed the PoP trailer during the previews. I'd forgotten how goooood Jake looks on the big screen. PoP looks like a fun, *big* movie.

paulh said...

Sorry, BBMIswear, I don't know whether the "Brothers" preview was shown before "2012." That's because I was so late getting to the theater that I missed the previews.

However, the "Brothers" preview was definitely shown before the movie I saw today, "Pirate Radio," also known as "The Boat That Rocked." I think we're in store for some excitement when we see "Nrothers."

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning all! Monday... sigh... And it's a blowy one.

Ooh, lucky you, JoeAnn! That must have been amazing!

Hi Paul! It was the PoP trailer before 2012 but I'm glad to hear you saw the Brothers trailer! I wonder when we'll ever get trailers for these in the UK... Plenty of Sherlock Holmes and Avatar trailers...

Have a good day everyone :D

Star Trek DVD Day!!! Duncan Jones' Moon DVD is also out today :D

BBMISwear said...

Ooooh...Brothers before Pirate Radio, huh? Now that's a movie I want to see! Maybe I can logistically plan to see the previews before 2012, go to another theater, see the previews before Pirate Radio and then stay for Pirate Radio. Something to think about.

I wish our friends across the pond could have access to some of these things as early as us in the states. We all know how frustrating it can be to wait...but to have to wait extra must be really hard. Let's start a campaign of some kind!

Have a good Monday (if that's possible).

:-)

Went to see 2012 last night. We were treated to Clash of the Titans trailer before the movie started. Looks good but still not PoP:(

I thought 2012 was a bit disappointing to be honest. The characters in the most part didn't connect with the audience. I did enjoy Woody Harrelson's performance as Charlie though.

Hope everyone has a good Monday.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning BBMISwear :-) Well you can bet if I went to see that I wouldn't get a Brothers trailer, not a hint of one. Not even a poster!

I like the sound of the campaign! It's a shame these things don't all come out at the same time.

Hi Carol! I'd like to have seen that trailer. I liked the Sherlock Holmes one though. I agree with what you say about 2012 - there seemed a complete disregard for the characters. Harrelson was good and clearly enjoyed himself! I was pained by the boy in the film being called Noah. And the Queen and corgis were very groanworthy. I have to talk about 2012 as I didn't see the trailer!

I am now in possession of Star Trek and Moon DVDs :D
