[Updated update] Forgive the ugliness of this post - things are moving fast! There is a slightly new Brothers trailer today - the differences are very minor, but I'll take anything I can get for Brothers. Source.
This scene below is the only significant addition for Jake Gyllenhaal's character.
[Another update] Duncan Jones has now tweeted confirmation - details here. Some bits and pieces from Duncan: 'true.. its a good step up in budget and ambition too. Im excited to work with Jake G too. cool guy. I like him.' 'Source Code came with an offer hard to refuse.' 'Hopefully it will be a little more professional than Moon, and we will have a proper online presence as we go.' Good! See below for more updated links about the script.
The Post
This story has just been published (and now in Variety): 'Philippe Rousselet’s Vendome Pictures has announced its first project, teaming with Mark Gordon on the sci-fi thriller Source Code starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Summit International has already pre-sold rights to more than 15 territories at AFM. Duncan Jones, fresh from his critically acclaimed low budget sci-fi Moon, will direct the story of a US soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and is forced to live and relive a train bombing until he can find the perpetrator. Ben Ripley wrote the screenplay with revisions from Billy Ray.'
'Mark Gordon of The Mark Gordon Company will produce with Rousselet, a longtime French producer who set up Vendome a year ago backed by a $115m revolving credit facility funded by a consortium of banks. Production is set for first quarter 2010 and Summit Entertainment will release in the US. CAA packaged and arranged financing for the film. The title has been one of the hottest at the market, with rights going to Optimum in the UK, Kinowelt in Germany, Hopscotch in Australia, SND in France, Aurum in Spain, Sandrew Metronome in Scandinavia, and Belga in Benelux.'
'“Source Code is the perfect film on which to launch the Vendome slate,” Rousselet said. “The film offers a unique and engaging story that we believe will appeal to a world-wide audience. Furthermore having the opportunity to work alongside Mark and Duncan is a dream start for our company and exemplifies the types of producers and film-makers we at Vendome plan to be in business with.”'
'“Jake and I have been trying to find a project together since we worked on The Day After Tomorrow,” Gordon said. “He’s a wonderful actor and perfect for this role in Source Code.”'
Source. Updated to add that the story is now in Variety.
Interestingly, this story follows the recent tweet by Duncan Jones that he met Jake for a breakfast business meeting. This is a director I would love Jake to work with - Moon was superb. The brief synopsis suggests yet again the range of Jake. If this film does begin filming in the first quarter of 2010, it couldn't be more different from Prince of Persia and Love and Other Drugs. So, what do you think? One also wonders how this would fit in with Doug LIman's beloved Unnamed Moon Project. Whatever the case, I whole heartedly approve of seeing the movies line up...
Meanwhile, can I get in an early reminder to Duncan about the obligatory shower and towel scenes?
[Update] Thanks to Jake Fan for a link to a review of the script. I've got to say, this sounds much better than the simplistic synopsis had suggested (so long as it's better than Vantage Point).
More information here, too.
Brothers screening
Updated to add: It appears that the Brothers screening is taking place this afternoon (LA time) at the Director's Guild. Jake has been seen in Pittsburgh today and so he is unlikely to be there. Jim Sheridan, however, is and he is doing a Q&A after the viewing. Hopefully we will get some reports of the screening and what Jim has to say.
Thanks to IHJ for the pictures.

Wow. Could this really be true? I'm not sure how I feel about this one. Not my type of movie at all (but then again I didn't think PoP was or Doug L's moon project was until I heard more details as time went on)!
But...one thing bothers me about this one...I was so looking forward to the other rumored movies Jake is 'possibly' going to be a part of (i.e. the moon project, the Joe Namath movie and Damn Yankees). If I had my choice I'd choose any of these three over the one described here (based on story line). I do agree with you, WDW, that it is a good thing to see the movies line up! And we surely know by now that mention of Jake being in a movie does not mean Jake will be in the movie. Hopefully we'll hear more soon. And the news just keeps rolling in, huh?! Loving it all!!! :-)
Hi BBMISwear :-) It's gonna be another of those weeks! I'm a scifi fan, but not this sort of scifi. But a sentence isn't really enough to do justice to a plot and I think Duncan Jones is amazing.
I think that if this does happen it could well be one of these fast moving ones, like Rendition and LAOD. Damn Yankees etc have never had a date associated with them. I like movies with start dates. The other ones can fall into place around them. At least with this one we should hear soon enough.
Damn, how are we supposed to keep up with Jake these days???
I think this sounds really interesting (have to embarrass myself and admit I know nothing about Duncan Jones or Moon, though...).
And with the way this Gordon guy talks and with the production date set to be so soon this really sounds as if it is going to happen!!
Thanks for another BBM post today...
Week for week I am taking the DVD with me on my business trips to Bratislava (+ a handful of other Jake or Heath movies), but I never manage to watch one of them... It's always too late after work and dinner and I am just too tired then, but I won't give up hope that I will be able to watch one of them one evening... :D :D :D
Thank you so much for keeping us up to date with everything that is going on with Jake!!!
Have a good start into the next week everybody!!
My word: bratin - could be the name for a frying fat (dripping?) in Germany... :D :D :D
Hi there Uli! That's good news that BBM keeps you company on those trips :D I'm glad you liked the BBM post.
Duncan Jones is an interesting man (he's also David Bowie's son). Moon had such a great critical reception - I do want to see Jake in a film like that. This does sound like it's going to happen and soon - it sounds a little how LAOD was announced. Have a good week!
this certainly was unexpected since I had thought Jake's next project might be Doug LIman's Moon project (I had also heard Jake might be producing it? )
But this is wonderful. That he'd be working with someone he worked on TDAT with.
Thanks WDW for your insightful info
sweetpea
Ewww. Gotta say, I have nothing but respect for Jake and Duncan Jones, but the pitch of Source Code reads like a lame mashup of Deja Vu and Groundhog Day - and a waste of both their talents. I'll wait for the Liman Moon project, ta.
Thanks Sweetpea :) Maybe there'll be time to fit this in before working with Doug - Doug has indeed said Jake is a producer. If there are still details to iron out, I don't want Jake twiddling his finger! More films please :D
Rob, I hear what you're saying. I thought of Groundhog Day too and I don't particularly want to watch a film where I have to sit through a repeated train crash every few minutes... But I'm hoping one sentence isn't enough to do the story justice and I would also hope that Duncan Jones would have seen something in it, rather than it being just a step forward into Hollywood. I'm surprised to hear that Jake would want to play another soldier role. I need more info - right now! And I want Doug's response...
I'm crossing my fingers that Jim Sheridan gives a lot of good info about Brothers at the Q&A today and that someone out there reports every single word of it! We need us some Brothers news and we need it now!
Sounds to be an interesting project.
I am with my fingers crossed to see good comments about Brothers after the exhibition today.
More news I can't keep up with everything:)
I'm not sure this movie is my kind of thing but it's good to hear Jake's name associated with another project. I had hoped that the Joe Namath movie might be up next. The way this one has been announced is really like the way we heard about LAOD.
I am looking forward to hearing what Jim Sheridan has to say at the Brothers event. We've been left in suspense for far too long on this movie.
Thanks for another BBM post today WDW. Hope you had a good Pine Creek Day. I watched it myself yesterday. I hadn't read some of those comments from Jake and Ang before so thank you for something new.
I do hope so, BBMISwear! We are so due some first hand Brothers information :-)
Hi Monica! My fingers are crossed too.
Hey Carol! Thanks for telling me that you spent Pine Creek Day watcching BBM - it's good to think many of us spent the day in such a nice day. It really is hard keeping up!
Duncan Jones has now tweeted confirmation of the news so... let's wait and see! (Please no Jarhead hair cuts...)
Great cigar smoking bunny avatar, Rob! ;D
He, I was thinking of Groundhog Day, too... :D :D
I still like the idea of the movie, because I am thinking of the range of emotions Jake could show in such a story... And he is so good at showing emotions...
Hm, would be weird to see Jake with a jarhead haircut again. I liked it back in the day, though... But now it is a strange thought...
So, there will be lots of more news this week, huh?
Gotta go to bed now!! Good night!
It seems the Unnamed Moon movie...still has a way to go before filming starts so this one would be through if the other is available then toward the end of the year..or whenever.
"Damn Yankees" is another that isn't ready yet to be filmed. But do hope that one comes through. A musical would be another role to put with the many different types Jake has done.
Same for the Namath movie
Script review for "Source Code"

"Wow. Wow wow wow wow wow. I absolutely freaking LOVED this script. Loved it x a million. I'm a sucker for sci-fi. But sci-fi that makes you *feel*? I'm so down."
Carson Reeves
If the film is half as good as this guys enthusiasm, I am happy.....
"
Hi Uli! Jake certainly has the depth of feeling to make us really feel for a character like this.
Hi Anon - I agree, that the other films may work around this one, and not be replaced by it.
Thanks for that, Jake Fan! That's fascinating and really encouraging. I was worried by similarities to Vantage Point (that became so dull and old fast) but this sounds like it could be involving and very gripping. And Jake would be central. I like the sound of the strong female role too. I added your link to the post - thanks!
After reading more about this movie it sounds more interesting than I first thought. It definitely reminds me of Deja Vu.
I'm curious to know more about the female lead character.
Wow, this is very exciting - I love the plot summary! I never saw Deja Vu or Groundhog day, but I get the feeling that this is a bit more serious in tone, almost like a Bourne mystery. Also, thanks for including my other favorite "towel" scene. :)
OMG - so many Jake surprises! I just saw the trailer for Prince of Persia on TV - during the Dallas/Philadelphia football game! It was beautiful, especially Jakes blue/green eyes - and the action was wonderful. I have a big screen TV, so it was almost like being at the movies! :)
Speaking of "Brothers," I saw the trailer for it today when I went to see "The Men Who Stare at Goats." I gather that there will be a lot of tension and yelling after Toby's character gets back home.
"The Men Who Stare at Goats" is a lot of fun. I can't find anyone in the cast who links directly to Jake. Kevin Spacey, George Clooney, and Jeff Bridges have not been in any movies with Jake. I may have to look harder, but so far no links have turned up.
i saw a ad on tv tonite for brothers finally
Morning all! Why is it Monday? Why? WHY??
Hi there Carol! I'm curious and the female character too - it sounds like a good role.
Hi 23:28 :D You must see Groundhog Day - one of my favourite films - and that shows perfectly that this kind of time movement story can work. Never enough towel pics :D
That's great 1:32! I'd love to see one of these trailers just pop up unexpectedly! But off to the movies this week with a mission to see the PoP trailer - fingers crossed.
Hey Paul - That's good news that Brothers is being trailered with such a high profile movie. I love Kevin Spacey but otherwise I don't think I'll be seeing that one.I don't know what it is about george Clooney - I think he's amazing but I've not managed to like his films... Maybe I should try harder.
Hi 4:04! I wonder if that's the video I've just updated to the post? Good to hear it's on TV!
I've just updated the post with a TV spot/3rd trailer. Not much new but good to get anything.
Have a good day - we have fog :/
You know, I think Jake totally signed on this movie at this time - just to keep you busy!!! LOL.
The project and the story sound great. Jake will fulfil his sci-fi dream if this one comes before UMP.
I need to go home and watch Brothers trailer #3! And need a report on Brothers on Directors Guild!
It's a conspiracy, Winterbird! So much going on, so little time... There should be more Jaking hours in a day. Is it home time yet?
I don't mind this new project. It sounds intriguing. I really like Sci/Fi and I love thrillers, if they're good, so it could work out. I think casting will be important. The hook is, we have to care.
P.S.
The Men Who Stare At Goats was filmed in New Mexico. Brothers was filmed in New Mexico. :)
Also meant to say: I'm not crazy about this last trailer. It is rather heavy handed. Between the three trailers, the whole movie is just about given away...or at least more than I'd like to see.
I think the most effective trailer is the second one. More intense, shorter.
That's easy with the casting of the sci-fi movie. As far as Jake's character goes he will make him someone to care about. That's one of Jake's great talents with his characters.
It was a gorgeous trailer on the big screen - my husband had the game on and he called to me "Uh, you might want to take a look at this!" and it was beautiful! Yes, he's a Red Sox fan but enjoyed watching the Yankees (any port in a storm, I guess. lol!) He doesn't mind my silly celeb crush of sorts. Jake's eyes were really an intense blue/green or aqua, you know the scene I mean.
Getting excited about Brothers, and the new movie sounds great. Can't wait to hear more.
^^Oops, that didn't sound right - I added the bit about the Yanks in addition to the Dallas/Philly game last night - forgot to add I loved your pic of the pink reindeer on Carnaby Street, WDW! Also, the Sunday BBM post - that pic you posted with Ennis and Jack in the midst of their reunion kiss is so intense. Sigh. :)
What a day! Just got in :D
Hi there 13:13! Now that I've read more about it, I'm getting pretty keen on this project too - very tense and with a lot of potential for Jake.
My favourite trailer is the second one too :D
I couldn't agree more, 13:51! Jake most definitely knows how to get the audience behind his character, or caring about him even when he's having to make some difficult decisions. Jake would be central to this story too.
That sounds amazing, 14:18! I'd love to see it. Our menfolk do love to roll their eyes :) Well, mine does!.
I'm so glad you liked my Carnaby Street reindeer and the BBM post - it's been so fast moving ehre over the last few days it's really nice to hear that people are enjoying the bits and pieces. I love London when the lights are on :D
Wow, more projects...fantastic! Sounds interesting and I hope it is another great vehicle for Jake. Btw, Duncan Jones is David Bowe's son. I am very excited for Jake and for us. :D
Btw, saw the movie Precious yesterday. Incredible movie that will definitely be up for Oscars. The theatre was completely packed. The even better news is that the trailer for Brothers was part of the movie! This movie broke records this past weekend and is already on everyone's top of year list. Having Brothers attached as a trailer is excellent promotion. Can't wait until December 4th. Squee! :D
Hi there Get Real! That's great that Brothers is getting a plug with such a big movie. Less than a month now - I wish it was just a month for the UK too, but I suppose it'll come! We've waited this long. At this rate we'll all be moving into the theatres next month :)
