Jake Gyllenhaal, the next in a fine quirky line to play superhero - 'He's a good fighter but... he's not Conan the Barbarian' - and The Chest

In order to avoid accusations of too little too late, Lionsgate is attempting to redeem its softly, softly approach to publicising Brothers by some wanton and gratuitous exploitation of Jake Gyllenhaal's chest. I'm delighted to say that this is an approach that works.

The Brothers website has added dimension today I'm pleased to say, including the incorporation of two trailers and some new publicity stills. Meanwhile, although we've not had proper reports of Jim Sheridan's Q&A at the DGA in LA yesterday, the emotionally-charged tweets suggest a great success. Anticipation increases!

Jake meanwhile is leaping up the ProIMDb scale, having ascended 200 places this week. This is what happens when one has the happy feeling that Jake is in every movie coming out in 2010 and is being cast in all of them for 2011.

The gaming community is hopefully coming to terms with a much loved game being given the movie treatment. GameInformer magazine has been looking at the Prince of Persia film as 'the blockbuster that turns video game from an afterthought to a summer mover staple. For game fans, there's a lot to look forward to.' It's the film that 'could help prove out the genre.' Here is the article for any gamers amongst us, including myself.

And of the film itself, 'Most importantly, it stars Jake Gyllenhaal, who, while not known as an action hero, has the acting chops to create a character that really resonates. Here again, video games seem to be learning from the success of comic book films. 'Some of the best superhero or comic-book movies lately have been with really good, quirky actors who are putting on the tights for the first time, so to speak,' says Jordan Mechner. 'Robery Downey as Iron Man, Christian Bale as Batman, Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. I was really glad when they cast Jake because he has the vulnerability, intelligence, and humour that are such an important part of who the Prince of Persia is, as I imagine him. He's a good fighter but he doesn't exist to fight; he's not Conan the Barbarian.'' - Thank heavens for that.

Incidentally, should you wish to write to the Prince of Persia, there's a good chance GameInformer is where your letter may turn up...

Many thanks to BBMISwear for the scans! Pictures from Lionsgate.

'He's a good fighter but... he's not Conan the Barbarian' - I liked that quote too! And I'm very thankful he is NOT Conan the Barbarian!! I thought the gamer in you may like this article (hee hee). And I really like reading the positive things the experts have to say about Jake as Prince. WE know he's going to be great but some of those gamers are just a tad bit more skeptical.

Wow...the chest...Lookin' Good :-) I'm laughing at the 'softly, softly' PR approach of Lionsgate! Could they be any softer?! I like ALL the Brothers trailers for all their different aspects and the layout of the website (with that CHEST picture is terrific). Now, if they could just pick up the pace a bit, huh?

Re: Jim Sheridan's Q&A yesterday...I guess I was crazy to think I'd wake up this morning and see something on line about it...some little word about some little something about this movie. GRRRR. He must have said something of interest...but no one in attendance felt like sharing? Jeez!

The wait continues.

Well...eyes and ears will be focused on Sesame Street's 1st show of the new season tomorrow morning...let's hope we see you know who :-)

Hey BBMISwear! I love that quote and hallelujah that Jake's not! Thanks so much for sending this too me - y'know I love to hear how the gaming community is getting ready for Jake.

OMG that chest pic is so stunning - one minute we have Jake with an octopus on his head and next we have the bare chested hunk to beat all hunks - he really does have the range :D Yep, time to pick up the pace - I was hoping for some Brothers news from yesterday but, as usual, zilch, just a few positive comments here and there. The buzz is building, but mainly duw to word of mouth.

Yes! Sesame Street tomorrow! And Jake or no Jake, at least I'll learn to spell - bonus :D

Have a good night :-)

OMG that chest pic is stunning. I'm only logging in on my phone tonight so I won't get to look at the updated Brothers site until tomorrow.

I have seen a few tweets that seemed to be very positive about Brothers. Really looking forward to finally seeing this movie soon. I get the feeling it's going to be worth the wait:) Hopefully Jim Sheridans comments from yesterdays Q&A will emerge soon.

The gaming community seem to be warming to Jake as the
prince. They're finally seeing what we knew already. I love that Conan the Barbarian quote. Thank god Jake is nothing
like Conan:)

Goodnight to all....must go back and take another look at the chest pic:)

The site of Brothers is wonderful. Amazing!
The lionsgate did a great job with photos and information about the film.
Tobey, Jake, Natalie and Oscar: O 'Brothers' where art thou?

Sheridan received a tremendous ovation Sunday afternoon when he was introduced for a Q&A after a very well-received Directors Guild of America screening.

Thank you so much WDW for all the information you're passing along to us fans who are waiting patiently for any news about POP and Brothers. I couldn't figure out why Brothers didn't go to any film festivals and had such lackluster promos. so far I've only seen one commercial for it on TV. I am going to be paying attention this whole week while I'm viewing my shows to see if it shows up again. I was surprised when I didn't see it show up during Dancing with the Stars
