While Prince of Persia is well on course for its May release, Jake Gyllenhaal's other movie Nailed has had more of a (how to put it politely) bumpy road to release or oblivion. But today we have news! Nailed is going to be up for sale in Cannes next year and that means they're gonna have to finish it - and there are funds to do just that. One can't help but think that Nailed's chances of success can't be hurt by Cannes almost coinciding with the release of Prince of Persia.
'There are other movies Bergstein's companies did finance that might be releasable, including "Nailed," a $33 million production directed by David O. Russell and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jessica Biel and Tracy Morgan. "Nailed" was shut down several times during production by SAG and the DGA, but Bergstein resolved the concerns of those guilds. Matthew Rhodes, a producer on "Nailed," said there are funds for postproduction, and "Nailed" will be offered to domestic distributors and international buyers next year at Cannes. He called the movie "fantastic" and "wonderful."' You can read all the background information here.
Prince of Persia is out in May next year but it could just as well be next month judging by the amount of publicity surrounding it this week. Brothers actually is out next month and we get a new picture courtesy of EW. Actually, there are three pictures but only one has Jake in it. Judging by the photo, it would seem that Tommy is not only holding the family together, he's also painting the house. Very handy.
Natalie Portman features graphically in V magazine for December and in it we are promised that she will discuss Brothers. Can we have Tommy on a magazine cover, too?
Let us hope that this is the sign of more to come. Please!
Meanwhile, if you didn't see last night's post, do check it out for the Jordan Mechner commentary to the PoP trailer and for the links to the Jordan and Jerry Bruckheimer Q&As. It also features a little of this...
Pictures from links.
It's Bonfire Night - A note to ask everyone to check for hedgehogs before lighting the fires!!! Elmo and Big Bird wouldn't like them getting toasted.... neither would Jake's octopus friend.

Great news about Nailed!!!
April/May next year is going to be busy time :)
I watched the Brothers trailer again last night on Apple's Front Row (hi-res, full screen), it looks amazing and explosive (at the end). Can't wait!
OMG. Nailed? Nailed? Some days I think I'm never going to even see this word again in print...and then I wake up, take a sip of tea, and get to read this?! Wow. I'm not quite doing my typical 'Whoowheee' just yet...we all know the long road it's been with this movie...but there is hope! Thank you WDW for bringing me hope in regard to this very special movie. *heavy sigh*
Brothers! Brothers! A little press on EW.com...oh boy! *a bit sarcastic here - sorry* But I guess this gives us some hope too, right? Late PR is better than no PR I guess. I can't believe I am one month away from seeing this movie which I already dubbed one of my favorite Jake movies 2 years ago - LOL! I guess I'll see if I'm right soon enough!
I'm still reeling from last night's ultra-full post (that I still have to go back and read more of) and the news keeps rolling in....a big WHOOOWHEEE to that! November has been Jake Month for absolute sure - and we're loving it!!
I'll be back later (I hope)...never enough time, never enough.
:-)
Morning Winterbird! Oh it's great to start the day with an update that all is not lost for Nailed.
I really do think that PoP may be a help for Nailed.
I must watch the trailer like that :)
Hi there BBMISwear! Yes, there is hope for this very special film! I know, it's hard to get one's hopes up but it's such good news that there's money to finish it.
Yep, I'm with you on the Brothers publicity - three new pics and a movie out in about 4 weeks... hmmmm. But maybe there'll be an explosion of publicity now.
There's just so much going on, it's wonderful. I don't want anyone to miss anything so I hope readers can also go back to yesterday's post.
Have a good day! Bonfire Night - look out for hedgehogs and octopi :)
I think that from now on, I will start every day with a look at the Jake and the octopus clip, I can't not smile when I watch it. :D
I hope we get a lot of goodies like the trailer commentary you put in the last post. That was great!
Nailed isn't dead? If a distributor picks it up, that would mean 3 Jake films in 2010. Can you imagine that? We would overdose after so long with nothing! Talk about flipping!
Wow, 3 new stills from Brothers. I am so impressed! (insert the most sarcastic smiley you can find here)
What's Bonfire night? I know my pet hedgehog loves to hide under stuff, is that what the wild ones do, they hide under the wood piles? I'm not very worried about the octopi, though. :)
Olympia
Hi Olympia! I know! It's gorgeous - I love Jake on Sesame Street and we've not even seen it yet.
The trailer commentary was great - what a good idea! And a really effective way of showing how the game and movie do in fact complement each other.
Oh yes, next year is going to be amazing! Many people, like the UK, don't get Brothers til January, which means four films are a real possibility for 2010! We may all have to take 2011 off!
Totally agree about Brothers - a new little pic of Jake... I think I prefer the PoP approach. You can bet there'll be much more for LAOD. Well, it would be hard for there to be less.
5 November is Guy Fawkes Night or Bonfire Night here - commemorates Guy Fawkes trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605, although it's a lot more pagan than that in some places. So lots of fireworks and big, big bonfires (with jacket potatoes and mulled wine :D). Unfortunately, lots of wild animals are killed as they hibernate in the pyres. I admit that the risk facing octopi is reduced.
It's an evening for looking at fireworks and going 'oooh' and 'aaaah' :D
"Remember, remember the 5th of November..."
I think I will watch Natalie in Vendetta tonight! So much great news I can hardly contain myself!
Aside from bonfires and blowing up Parliament, don't girls get to do something special on Guy Fawkes Day?
Hello Ms Dynamite :D Ooh, I may have had some very sheltered Bonfire Nights - eat and drink a lot while wading through mud and dodging rocket sticks falling to the ground like arrows?
Bonfire night sounded like fun until this: "wading through mud and dodging rocket sticks falling to the ground like arrows". :D I do love fireworks, though.
I just read on Wikipedia that it's actually celebrated in some parts of Canada like BC and Newfoundland but I had never heard about it. Yet another thing I've learned about because of my Gyllenhaalism. And they say addiction is a bad thing! :)
Olympia
Hi Olympia! I didn't realise that Bonfire Night was celebrated anywhere else. It's big here - much bigger than Halloween - but I'm on my own this evening (except for WDW and Jake) and so I think I'll stay warm indoors instead. I feel like a David Fincher evening!
Yipee a little more Brothers press:) Still not enough though... All the publicity so far seems to be centering on Tobey and Natalie mostly.
As much as I like Natalie can we get Jake/ Tommy on some magazine covers soon please.....
That's good news about Nailed. Hopefully we will eventually get to see it. It's sounds promising that finance seems to be available to finish it.
I'm looking forward to the Sesame St clips and the commentary on the trailer once I get home.
Have a good bonfire night WDW. I like the sound of a David Fincher night:)
Brothers is a different kind of film from Prince, obviously. I think the reasoning is, that, with Jake, Natalie and Toby, huge stars, they will only need a scant month to market it. (Wrong!)
I do hope they can at least place the trailer in more theatres and that it will be advertised on television. Personally, I think they should have started that two weeks ago.
These sporadic interviews by Natalie or Toby seem to be evidence of a lack of coherent planning to the entire marketing aspect. It is very worrisome. I hope it plays in more than a half dozen theatres!
Hi Carol! I hope you enjoy the vids when you get home. And yes! Jake on covers please! We should start a campaign. I'm watching the Restaurant and then settling down with Benjamin Button and a duvet :)
Hi there Anon! Oh absolutely. I'm beyond frustrated by this. I'm normally so optimistic about things - even Nailed! - but the Brothers' 'publicity' has left me stumped. You're right - they seem to be relying entirely on the names. But, in all honesty, if I weren't a Jake fan would I even know this is coming out? I think not! And this makes me down because I think this is going to be a wonderful film, absolutely wonderful - it deserves better than it's getting.
I go to the cinema a lot and I've not seen a trailer yet. I'll definitely see a PoP trailer before a Brothers one and this film is out in a month. It may well win awards but an audience would be nice - I want people to see Jake! We've not seen him for 2 years! No good giving a great performance if noone sees it.
I don't see how one interview with Tobey, one feature about Natalie (which doesn't actually discuss Brothers) and 3 new pictures makes a publicity strategy. We have a month - prove me wrong, Lionsgate.
The publicity campaign for Sesame Street is far more sophisticated! Rant over :)
They must have heard me - see the new post... :/
