A new Prince of Persia still, a new Sesame St picture, Brothers rumours and Jake Gyllenhaal's advice to 2012 star

If ever a photograph of Jake Gyllenhaal deserved a new post, it's this one. Simply stunning - many thanks to IHJ for finding this.

Another new image of Jake, this time with more ostrich octopus, reminds us that the new anniversary season of Sesame Street is underway, with a chance that Jake may feature today briefly. But then we thought that about yesterday too. I think we're in this for the long haul, but just think how it will benefit our spelling. Thanks to BBMISwear for finding this! I still marvel at how someone thought that pulling an octopus off Jake's head was a handy definition of 'separate'.

Brothers meanwhile continues its softly, softly progress towards release. Jeff Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere has been lamenting the lack of screenings just like the rest of us but he has heard a whisper: 'I'm told there's some kind of "special screening" in Manhattan slated for 11.22, and an L.A. premiere screening set for 12.1. Sheridan is currently in Toronto preparing to shoot Dream House, a psychological thriller with Daniel Craig starring. He flies to Ireland tomorrow and returns to this side of the pond a week or so later.'

With all these projects coming together, here's a reminder (as if we need one) that not everything comes to pass. The enormous variety of Jake's roles cannot fail to catch attention, as is reflected in this interesting article about 'Why Hollywood's Hardest-Working Actord Deserves an Oscar'.

A little film opens this week - 2012 (The Film With The Trailer as I like to think of it). One of its stars Amanda Peet has spoken of why she took the job: 'Question: So, was it the overall nature of the film that appealed to you? Peet: Well, I thought the script was a page-turner, and I thought that it had some nice character moments, even though it was this big action movie. And then I called Jake Gyllenhaal, and I said, "What's it like to work with Roland Emmerich?" And he said, "It's a dream. Go - run, right away, and go work with him." And he was right. Because he's so lovely, and so easy and so supportive and gentle.' And Jake's not bad either.

Updated to add a slightly different version of the anecdote from Parade: '"I e-mailed Jake Gyllenhaal, who was in Day After Tomorrow, before I signed on. I said, 'Is Roland Emmerich great or is he a nightmare? Tell me the truth because life is short and I need to know what's up.' And Jake replied, 'He is the most divine, great person to work for ever and you should run and do it.'"'

wow... that's SOME picture! :)

I love that article where they think Jake deserves an Oscar for working so hard and have a diverse portfolio. Even though I don't really care about the Oscars, I am so glad that he's well loved by the industry :)

And Jim- critics and audience want to watch Brothers, you need to show more screenings!

Hi Bertie! OMG I could look at it all day... :D

Hi winterbird :D It's a great articl and it's good to know that other people respect Jake's diversity and his courageous role choices. It's been two years without a movie but people are so ready to see Jake again :)

Jim, we want to see Brothers!

I want to go home and study that picture...

Diversity is the word that just keeps coming up over and over again...as it should! I mean look at these two pictures! The gorgeous, stunning, breathtaking PoP photo...and the goofy, lovable, funny Sesame Street photo...could we have two more extreme photos?! I think not. I'm truly loving all of it!

And I'm also loving the fact that there are more and more people out there (from general audiences to film reporters) that feel the way us Gyllenhaalics do about Brothers...show this movie to people, talk about it, promote it! Enough already!

I do have to wonder...how does one get to just "call Jake Gyllenhaal" to ask a question?! :-)

P.S. Hope you're feeling better WDW!

I agree, an Oscar would be wonderful, but Jake's work speaks for itself, especially Brokeback Mountain. Versatility in an actor is a great thing - and in one way I'm glad that there's a little bit of time between his roles and we get to anticipate them. I love that he becomes so many diverse characters as well - Jack Twist, Robert Graysmith, Dastan, Tommy Cahill. Just think of how different they all are, and how different Jake has looked/acted as all of them. :)

I can't wait to see Brothers, and Prince of Persia is sounding better and better.

I'm thinking the studio or agent would be able to get any actor or actress the phone number of another.

Glad your feeling better WDW. I've unfortunately got the flu so I was lying here feeling very sorry for myself until I saw that picture.....

Jake looks absolutely gorgeous in it. I love it. I'm finally beginning to fall for the Prince.

Interesting to hear that Jim is heading back to Ireland for a couple of weeks. I will be on high alert should anything pop up on radio or TV. Brothers will probably get a bit of extra attention here because it's a Jim Sheridan film. But the fact that it isn't being released until the new year might mean it won't start getting any mention for awhile yet. I will report back if I hear anything in the next few weeks.

Wow..that truly is a stunning picture. The really big version is breath taking, I love all the details: the beads in Jake's hair, the intensity showing in his eyes, the way his hair moves around his beautiful face... *sigh* Just lovely...

Yay, another pic for my "I need to feel better, hey, here's a picture of Jake wrestling with a squid" collection! :D I'm so not surprised that Sesame Street chose a picture of Jake and the octopus to illustrate how funny their new season will be. I bet he was one of the goofiest and silliest guest they ever had, the kids will love him. :D

I'm glad you're feeling a little better, WDW. :)

Hi BBMISwear :-) Loving the extremes - and this is what made me fall for Jake. TDAT and BBM, I loved him in both and they are so different. I feel like that about Tommy and Dastan too. And yeah - We all want Brothers!

Definitely Bertie! And Jake looks/acts so differently in these roles. It's an incredible gift. I'm glad to hear you're falling for Dastan :D

Very true, Anon :)

Thnks Carol! I'm sorry to hear you have the flu - that's rotten. It's good to know you're over there keeping tabs on everything - let's hope if Jim goes over to Ireland you hear about it. Feel better soon *)

Hi Olympia! Posting at the same time :D OG the details on that picture are amazing and the bead is gorgeous. Oh to be the person who puts beads in Jake's hair...

Never enough octopus pictures.... You're so right - they're gonna love Jake!

"La La La La La La La La...Elmo's World..." Oops, sorry, Sesame Street songs in my head again.

No Happy Birthday songs today on Sesame Street...no Jake. No Michelle Obama either (even though we read an article yesterday that made it sound like today may be the day she comes back). I think the people at SS know what they're doing...let's suck all those people in that don't normally watch SS to watch this week...and it's working...LOL!

Luckily I can bring my laptop into the living room and get some work done while Sesame Street plays in the background as this has not been very convenient (although I wouldn't miss seeing Jake on Sesame Street for anything...so we do what we have to do)!!

Signing off for now from Sesame Street Central :-)

Keep singing, BBMISwear! Just think of all the words and numbers you'll be learning over there at Sesame Street Central :DD We're all grateful to you for keeping sentry duty on Sesame Street! But, please, no more singing..... :-)

Anonymous said...

Yes, that singing is contagious! The last thing I did last night before going to the grocery store was to read BBMIswear's comment where she was singing the SS theme song. Guess what song was stuck in my head for all of my grocery shopping? I couldn't get rid of it! :D

But I too am grateful for BBMIswear keeping an eye on SS. Are you going to watch all 26 new episodes for us? That's what I call dedication! :D

Sorry you have the flu, Carol, I hope you feel better soon. :)

I am chuckling at what this Sesame Street song singing has done to people! WDW wants me to stop (I don't blame you) and Olympia is now singing along with me...LOL!

Everybody - all together now:

"Sunny day sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet
Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Sesame Street"

I don't believe I will be able to watch all 26 new episodes...ha ha! I think I'll stick to this week (in hopes of that Happy Birthday song thing) and December 4th (which is Jake's Word on the Street: Separate). Oh, and November 19th to see Maggie's Word on the Street: Surprise. S*#t! I'm going to be watching this more than I thought! I'll keep you all posted.

"Sunny day sweepin' the clouds away..."

Hi Olympia! I'm laughing at the idea of all these Gyllenhaalics with the Sesame Street song stuck in their head! Oh Jake you have a lot to answer for :D

And the word on the street is: 'Aaaaaggghh!' Now you've done it to me, BBMISwear!! As penance you must sit through every episode and alert us to Jake moments :-) 'Sunny days....' help!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

PS Just updated the post with a slightly different version of Amanda Peet's Jake anecdote :D

PPS How do I look? –>

You look amazing! :D

Does this girl communicate so often with Jake that she doesn't remember if she used the phone or an email? Geez, some people are very lucky...

Olympia

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ooh thank you *blushing* :D

She's trying to rub it in, sob! Maybe next time she'll say that Jake told her while they were having a drink down the pub... I remember a long time ago that Uli dreamt Jake's email address! I wonder if she ever tested it :DD

Monica said...

I sent an email to a brazilian film critic (she lives in LA) asking about Brothers and she said:
I'll see next week ....

She did not say a date.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

ooh that's interesting! Thanks Monica :D

Laughing at the direction this blog is going in today! Sesame Street songs, Amanda Peet and her short term memory, sexy avatars, various illness, the Brothers movie...you name and we've discussed it!

All together now: "La La La La La, La La La La, Elmo's world...."

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks, Sweetpea!

I love it too, BBMISwear :-) Loving the Amanda comments :D Please, STOP SINGING!

It's raining so hard out there, I may be going to work by boat tomorrow...

Carol said...

You're looking good WDW:)

That picture is so stunning.

Enjoying the Amanda Peet story. It's funny but I saw Chitewel Ejiofor on TV this morning talking about the movie and he was saying how easy and nice Roland was to work with too. I'm really starting to look forward to this movie now.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Carol! I have a bit of a weakness for Roland myself. Your mention of Chitewel Ejiofor reminds me of the interview Jake made on the Bafta red carpet back in 2006 (for sky I think) when he had to show the interviewer how to pronounce the name!

Carol said...

I think I remember that interview:)

I like the escapism of a disaster movie. Makes you appreciate what you have when you leave the cinema!!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I like the escapism too - the kind of film where you don't feel guilty for rustling popcorn! That was a good interview. I had it recorded and then the machine broke and I lost it - sigh :(

Jake is so funny in the picture with the octopus. thanks, BBMISwear!

I loved watching Jack and Jill with Amanda Peet. She was very funny in this serie.

does anyone know where else you can view the tv guide clip of brothers online?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Monica! I'm seeing 2012 tomorrow so I'll be thinking of Amanda emailing/phoning Jake for advice now :D

Hi Shoe89 - not yet, but I'm looking :)

Have a good day everyone! A lovely day today, I feel like it's the quiet before the apocalyptic storm tomorrow :D

BBMISwear said...

Sesame Street Central reporting in! No Jake today. I'm thinking we will just need to wait until December 4th. But if they do the Happy Birthday song we want to see it right? Right! But we are not being told WHEN that episode will air. GRRRR. Well, I certainly now know more about bees and pollen and skin then I ever thought possible!

All together now: "Can you tell me how to get...Can you tell me how to get...Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street..."

Signing off!

:-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey there Sesame Street Central :-) Good to see you're doing your duty. Just think about what you're learning, all in the name of Jake. I suppose bees, pollen and skin are a poor substitute for Jake.

I have my fingers in my ears so I can't hear The Song :D

The lovely day has gone - it is now A Tempest.
