Journey behind the scenes with Jake Gyllenhaal on the Prince of Persia set

The planets must be in some kind of powerful cosmic alignment, as predicted by a long lost civilisation - yesterday we had a glimpse behind the scenes of Prince of Persia but today! Today we get even more'Action Figure' Jake Gyllenhaal - we see Jake in a harem, we hear Jake talking off camera in an English accent, we're let into more repartee between Dastan and Tasmina and there's more Alfred Molina. I don't want to go over the top but we even get proof that Mike Newell can actually speak. Here it is - deep breaths everyone, but pace yourself - who knows what we'll get tomorrow! Thank you Yahoo.

This video has certainly caught the interest of the online gaming and movie sites and the reaction is almost completely positive and more than ready for 28 May 2010. All credit to Jake Gyllenhaal and to Jerry Bruckheimer. Jerry: 'I just think he's a wonderful actor. He's handsome, a great romantic lead. When you see him in the picture, you won't recognize him.'

[Q: Do you see this as launching his action movie career?] God, I hope so. He certainly looks fantastic in it. He's got all the moves. He did a lot of hardcore (training) which shows off the very physical skill that he has. [Q: He's an actor who's mostly been known for his indie career. Is it a hard sell to get him to do the bigger movies?] It mostly depends on the screenplay. If he likes the character and the screenplay, you've got him. He's very particular and very smart about his career and we got lucky that he responded to the picture.' Source.

I was particularly excited to hear Jake talk off camera in an English accent that wasn't exactly placeable but it was believable - far more so, in my opinion, than Peter Sarsgaard's. This is possibly because An Education went for 'posh' whereas Dastan is from the street, who fights among the mob and has to extricate himself from any number of pickles with street charm, cunning, wit and brawn. The voice matches Dastan perfectly. And Jake can joke with it: 'Let's just get through this part and we'll move onto more interesting moments in the film' as they record the scene where Dastan falls at the feet of the harem beauties. Bodes well for lots of DVD extras!

'A good fun movie' Jake calls Prince of Persia - for him and for all of us. We have five months left for the wave to build. It's going to be quite a ride.

I feel weak...

Good morning! And what a way to start the day!

I with a flu.

I'm impressed with this video and coolest thing is seeing the positive reaction of people after this video. For a moment reminded Avatar, when many did not like the first trailer and now they are all anxious to see the movie.

I'm disappointed with Lionsgate. They should have done a better dissemination to all actors of Brothers and not just for Tobey. It would be great to see Jake, Natalie and Tobey in GG.

Hi Monica - sorry you're unwell - I hope you feel better very soon. It would have been good to get more noms for Brothers for the Globes but they were just odd on the whole. I'm glad you liked the video :D

Looking forward to seeing Iron Man 2 that's for sure :D

Where is everyone? Are you all distracted? :D

I had my Christmas dinner today - it had to cost under a tenner - I took liberties.

Hi Monica! I think this is the Chicago Film Critics nominations. There are a lot of films/people missing here too but I am glad to see the inclusion of Duncan Jones for Moon. It was a travesty that film wasn't included in any of the GGs. At the time, Jones thought it wasn't eligible. Turns out it was, it was just being ignored.

I'm not sure how awards can pick out different actors from a film, ignore other actors picked by other awards, and also ignore the film they're in. I don't understand who Natalie was supporting - and was she better in her role than the men were in theirs? This debate could go on and on in neverending circles!

I'll go back to look at Jake in the video - love that accent :D

This movie looks like it's going to be fun. I'm looking forward to seeing Jake in something like this for a change. :)

His accent is pretty good. Still not sure about the hair, but he looks great otherwise. ;-)

Rubes! This is such a fun project - I just hope my ticker can stand it... I find it strange that I love both brothers hair and PoP hair. I'm very indecisive when it comes to Jake's hair. I like how soft it looks now. I've been rewatching Jimmy Kimmel - love those big smiles.

I love his hair on Jimmy Kemmel - you know me likes it short. :D

I just rewatched it too. He seems happy: 'Life is fantastic'. He's obviously had fun shooting LAOD and the POP publicity is starting. That will quite a ride for him I think. It's so good to see goofy, happy Jake.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ahh yes, that was Ruby hair :D I think I like it a little longer - Interview cover length (without the ukelele).

After two years without movies, I bet Jake is loving the attention. PoP is going to be very exciting for him and us very the coming months. And then it's LAOD! I do think they had fun on that one! Love goofy, happy Jake :)

I have high hopes of a big UK premier for PoP. Worthy of at least one day off work. :D

Wow, this is video clip is beautiful and I love Jake's accent. The Prince of Persia universe is becoming more "real" all the time. :)

Me too, Ruby, one at least! We'll have to get planning :D

Hi Bertie! It really is becoming more real - I love it :D

News on Open Source which will please Olympia and get her a whole load of house guests! It's set to film in Montreal;

'Duncan Jones’ sci-fi thriller “Source Code” begins pre-production early next month in Montreal and is due to begin filming early March.' source

OMG! Montréal? Really? I'll have to try and find a reason to go there. It's gonna be weird to know he'll only be 2 hours away. But March? Be prepared to hear Jake bitch about how cold it is and how there's nothing to do. *rolls eyes* Which is weird because there's plenty to do in Montréal, it's a big city. I volunteer to go keep him company if he's bored. I'm nice like that. :D

The new POP video is great. I can't judge Jake's accent but it'll take time for me to get used to. I might have to see the movie more than once to understand all the dialog. Oh what torture! :DDD

Hi Olympia! Yes and Duncan Jones has tweeted that he's already in Canada doing the prep :D Jake complained about the cold when he was there for 7 months doing TDAT so he should take you up on your selfless offer!

It is strange having Jake film so close as i know here from PoP. A real case of so close to far but if he's filming in the streets as with PoP!!

I'm afraid you must put yourself through multiple PoP viewings :D

Canada? One of my dreams is to visit Canada! Should be a beautiful country!
WDW, do not forget that BBM was filmed there too!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Monica! Canada is so beautiful as I can vouch for myself :D I most certainly haven't forgotten BBM was filmed in Canada but here I was talking about Montreal specifically and Jake spent a long time in that city for TDAT.

My sister gave me a great gift: Catcher In The Rye. I read a long time and is one of my favorites.

Jake would have been perfect for the role of Holden.

I found this article:
Why You'll Probably Never See 'Catcher In The Rye' On The Big Screen

Morning Monica! I loved Catcher in the Rye. I read it years ago and then revisited it again last year - it felt just as good. I'm glad you're enjoying it. Thanks for the links!

My pleasure, Sweetpea! I love this video!
