Another featurette about that 'nice little sandy package' PoP and Jake Gyllenhaal in February's Empire - 'I've always wanted to do this'

The holidays are over! I've found a reason why this makes me happy - the Jake Gyllenhaal floodgates have reopened! This weekend the Disney Channel gave us a Sneak Peek into the Prince of Persia. Thanks to Stephanie at IHJ we can all see it today. The film clips are familiar but there's a new brief interview and the behind the scenes glimpses are also new.

Jake talks a little about this 'nice little sandy package': 'My favourite movies are always a mix of everything. There's lots of action and there's cool characters and stunts.'

Jake talks some more about Prince of Persia in the February edition of Empire (scans below). I like how the contents page describes this as an onset visit with Jake Gyllenhaal who 'got stuck with being Prince of Persia after Tobey Maguire bagged the considerably more coveted starring role in Jet Set Willy'.

And the feature itself. 'Forget New Moon, Prince of Persia features real Jake-abs. 'How did I get so big? Let's get straight to the important questions!' Gyllenhaal laughs. 'Six months of a lot of really functional training. It's not really about getting bigger or stronger. It wasn't about sitting in a gym trying to look good. In order to be a warrior fighting in all these scenes and to actually fight with these people and have legitimate fun in the movie, it required six months of pretty heavy training, as if I were fighting, as if I were jumping up and down and grabbing things. I mean, it was really fun stuff.''

''I'd come off a lot of films that were very character-driven and I had exercised all those muscles... It was time to try something else... It's so much fun to just run around and fight... It's like what I always dreamed of doing when I thought about being an actor as a little kid. And then I made all these movies where I was like...' He pauses and rephrases. 'I mean, I like all the stories I made, but I've always wanted to do this. It's a legitimate epic movie!''

'Like Dastan, Jarhead's Anthony Swofford also laboured in the Persian Gulf. 'Yeah, felt that too, when I was sitting there in the desert thinking, 'How the fuck did I end up here again?!' It is interesting. But it's a question you're going to have to ask my unconscious!''. And then there are the similarities with time traveller Donnie. ''That sometimes passes through my my mind. I've made other films that have been about time travel... My unconscious led me back to the fucking desert, and it's all about fucking going back in time!' But there's no giant, demonic rabbits in Prince of Persia, right? Gyllenhaal laughs. 'Just wait til reshoots!''

It's interesting how Empire chose an old picture for its feature, and yet what a picture it is. This post also includes pictures taken at LAX yesterday evening (3 January) and a supercool shot from the set of Blame It, thanks again to IHJ. Scans by WDW.

oooh... lovely pics!

"how the fuck did I end up here again?"

Heehee... is OK to say that I love to hear Jake say the F word like that? :)

I think the "how did you get so big for the film" question is going to be the most repetitive question for Jake this summer.

thanks for the lovely pics! I am tempted to get a copy of Empire. who's on the cover?

Me too, Winterbird :D Yeah, the muscle and the ostriches!

Matt Damon is on the cover - it's very green!

Okay, there may not be any demonic rebbits in "Prince of Persia," but there are demonic ostriches and sinister scorpions and cantankerous camels. ;-)

Actually, Jake has found himself in the desert *three* times, not too, if you count "Rendition." :-)

Last night I saw "Alvin and the Chipmunks: the squeakquel." Believe it or not, there is actually a Jake link in the movier: Anna Farris, who was Randall's wife in "Brokeback Mountain."

I wonder if his mother calls Jake when she reads interviews like this one. Jacob, language! :D

It really seems like he had a lot of fun making POP. Good for him.

LOL at Paul's demonic ostriches :DDD

Hi Paul! You've gotta watch those pesky ostriches :D

My pleasure, Anon :) That picture is just beautiful.

Hey Olympia! You can imagine the tuts - but it's so hot. I think Jake knows that :) I think Jake had a great time making PoP and I'm so happy for him - he deserves the fun. !

I'm a little late to the party...just caught up on the last 3 posts...Wonderful work WDW!!

First, loved the Jake 2010 post...so many great things to look forward to! All these movies and DVDs and who knows what else. I'm a sucker for those behind the scenes bonus features on the DVDS (I think I've said this before!) and I really want him to do the talk show circuit at least twice in 2010. I feel we were ripped off with Brothers. Only one talk show??? (Although it was a GREAT visit he had on JKL and true)!

I love the LAX pics...what a nice surprise! He's really liking his "Brothers Promo Jacket" as I like to call it. Thanks for the Empire scan...terrific! And that black and white Blame It shot is gorgeous. Wow.

I'm LMAO at "nice little sandy package"...remember my email WDW? With this exact line in the subject line?! When I found the vid a while back but it was hard for many to view? I believe the interview clips are the same (so now you know you have those clips!) but I think some of the footage is different. Again showing how much PoP stuff is out there and we are only getting little itty bitty pieces of it. Grrrrr. I want it all! I really like that shot in the beginning of Jake and Gemma.

Phew...busy post-holiday posts my friend. Thank you. Enjoying it all!

Until next time...

:-)

Good morning all! Due heavy snow today...

Hi BBMISwear :-) So glad you liked the posts!

I was wondering if this video was that video - it sounds like it almost is. There could be lots of teasers like this coming on the Disney Channel and it bodes well that all these extra bits and pieces were seen (thinking TV specials and DVD extras). I'd like to see more of that Jake and Gemma bit too.

I'm looking forward to the chatshows too. Maybe Jake will get another jacket for it! Catch you later!

Have a good day everyone - keep warm :)

It will be interesting to follow the period of interviews of Jake about POP. Especially when he is talking about the character.

I'm in love with B & W photo!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Monica! I can't wait for the interviews :D That is a stunning photo. Can you believe that's nearly a year ago?!

Fantastic pic, fantastic pics all in fact. Fun post. Sorry I can't say much, I'm still 'abstaining' as much as poss due to spoilerify reasons - I wish I could stick to my diet as religiously. Definitely noticing the floodgates opening though - a PoP was on the cover of 'Times2' on Saturday. Terrible pic though, all blurry.

...I also think he looks really quite middle eastern or Indian in those two stills. TD

I forgot to mention that "The Boston Phoenix" is talking about "Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus" and "Crazy Heart" opening in Boston in january. This will give me something to keep an eye out for. :-)

Hi TD! Good to see you :D I'm glad you're not staying away too much - there shouldn't be too much spoilery here so don't fight it! The pics are lovely :D

It's a good list, Monica :D And I'm a fan of scifi so good to see. I wonder if there should be fewer films on the list.

Hi Paul! I hope you can see both of these :D

omg am i seeing right?does Jake have lollipops in the side pocket of his backpack(again!)?d'awwww

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Gretchen! I was wondering about thaat too - if you look at the bag in one of the pics in the new post I think t may be a wrapped small present. What do you think?

Gretchen said...

answering myself.no. :(( it's a purse-like thing.maybe a case for his glasses.or could be a present or something.idk.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hmmm, could be a glasses case, that would be sensible there. But I still think it's a prezzie (for me, obviously :D)
