Films may be 'airy fairy' but Jake Gyllenhaal is 'lovely' says PoPpess Gemma

The Princess of Persia Gemma Arterton this week took to the West End boards with The Little Dog Laughed at the Garrick. Gemma is undoubtedly enjoying her return to the stage but there is one thing missing. I'll give you a clue: he has big blue eyes with a twinkle in them, he's hot and he's handy round the kitchen.

'“I really love coming back to the stage,” [Gemma] told us at the after-show bash in the Trafalgar Hotel’s Rockwell Bar. “It is a much more rounded experience to working in films, which can be quite airy fairy, although working with Jake Gyllenhaal was great. He is lovely!”' He most certainly is. He can build tables as well. But Gemma is in Jake territory there because the Garrick was home to Jake's own debut on the stage.

Talking of young Jake, a video has emerged from Jake's appearance in A Dangerous Woman, taunting Debra Winger while riding a bike (if he'd been texting at the same time he'd have been more like the youth round here). Released in 1993, A Dangerous Woman was a family effort. Written by Naomi and directed by Stephen and also featuring Maggie. But it also is a gift as it captures a step on the way while demonstrating that Jake has been plagued by bad haircuts in movies for longer than I'd thought... And right at the end there are a few seconds from an interview at that most pleasant of film festivals, Maui.

At the end of it, the interviewer, flower in her hair, grabs a hold of Jake's shoulder, encased in white t-shirt, and calls him 'A busy guy that I have to let go of'. It doesn't look to me like she's trying very hard.

Another old video has also re-emerged this week. Filmed on the set of October Sky, here we can see Jake at the other end of his teens. He is charm itself. And smart. As the real Homer Hickam declares at the end.

Telethon night in the States and Brothers opening night in the UK and a night to remember Heath Ledger wherever we are. So lots of emotions. In the UK, the Hope for Haiti telethon is on overnight on MTV and YouTube (in the US I don't think there'll be much trouble finding it). The time difference will make it hard to watch in the UK, especially if you don't have cable, but please donate here.

Evening everyone! I hoope today's been kind - and now it's the weekend. A Brothers weekend for many of us over here. I may be seeing it for the 5th time (ahem...) but this time I'll be seeing it with friends :)

For anyone who's interested, a new post at MB with a review of the movie week.

Have a good evening everyone!

Hehe 5 times!

I went today at the manchester odeon 6:10 pm showing.

Including me and my two friends there was only FIVE of us! Five! :/

but that aside..I thought it was a very good film and Jake was brilliant! So charming. That little girls performance was also heart-wrenching! I wont say anymore because i always give spoilers away etc.

It kind of makes me angry at the poor promotion of the film..however, i am hoping this will be a big DVD release :)

Also there was a rather large cutout of Jake as prince of persia at the main entrance :D So excited for that, and we know there will be loads of promotion/interviews for that! yayy.

Hi Silver! I'm so glad you saw it today! But OMG 5 people - Lionsgate shoud be ashamed of themselves. Jake is adorable in it, isn't he?! The clips I've seen here commpletely skip this side of the film.

Good news about the PoP poster :d There'll be so much for that and I'm ready for it :)

If you see it tonight, at the weekend, do tell us what you think.

Nice videos. Is it me or did Jake sound les gyllenbabbly when he was young? :D

My work day is almost over and I can finally go home and watch BBM. It's been a while so I'm really gonna savor it. I've got my whisky and a big box of tissues, I'm ready! :)

Hi Olympia! I think Jake was a little easier to understand when he was starting out - now he likes to muddle and charm us! Do savour the viewing this evening, what a good way to spend this evening :)

Ive been waiting over two hours to get on the PC to post my comment (Command & Conquer rulled tonight).

I dragged someone along with me and I believe I've got a convert. The comments were "he's got the most expressive eyes Ive ever seen. He doesn't have to say anything to know what he's feeling." I thought 'Yes, you get it'.

I tell you, Brothers left me needing a neck and back massage. I swear, there were moments in the cimema (about 80% full) that you could hear a pin drop. Amazing. Jim Sheridan = Genius. Jake = Delightful. I want to see it again unlike Avatar (forgettable). I'm proud of Jake's performance.

Oh, and completely forgot my age and took pictures outside with the 8ft Prince of Persia cutouts (shameful pictures that may be used against me at a later date). What an evening and so fitting at a time to remember Heath too.

My word is cookstop 'whataya tryin to say?'

RIP Heath...we miss you. I always love the pics of him and Jake.

Great quote from Gemma.

Also, HERE is the Red Cross Haiti PSA that Jake is part of.

Meant to also say how great it is to see these old clips of Jake in Hawaii and during OS! :)

Watching the Haiti telethon now.

Brothers weekend has finally arrived. I'm heading tomorrow with a friend who's been looking forward to seeing it for ages. Though his interest has more to do with Natalie Portman I think:) Can't wait to see it again. I love walking into the cinema now and seeing all the advertising for Prince of Persia.

I spent the evening watching Heath movies and now I'm feeling happy sad in an odd kind of way. Can't believe how quickly the two years have went since his passing. RIP Heath. You may be gone but never forgotten.xxx

OOT thanks for the James Franco/Howl clip on the MB post WDW.

Hope everyone has a great Brothers weekend:)

Morning everyone! Well, after all that it looks like Jake didn't appear on the Telethon itself, unless he filmed a clip for it that I've not heard about yet.

Hey Sheba! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Although I knew you would and I love that you took the pics of te Prince. I'm hoping I may see him today too :D

Hi Get Real! Thanks for the link :D I'm glad you liked the clips. Did you spot anything Jakey in the Telethon?

Morning Carol! I do wish I'd get to see some of this PoP stuff! It's all Alice in Wonderland in mine - a giant and very scarey Anne Hathaway when you walk in. But I'm seeing Brothers today at a different Vue os maybe we'lll be lucky.

That sounds like a nice way to spend a week, with Heath films :)

Hi twitter! I saw that tweet, not so sure about that one.

Have a good day everyone! Brothers day for me and the gals, plus a nice dinner and drinks with umbrellas in them. And Tommy. Perfect :)

About to have lunch and then see Tommy again!

Happy birthday Mr WDW xx

I had a weird but very nice Heath moment yesterday. I decided to treat myself with a bottle of wine and thought it would be nice to drink an Australian in Heath`s honor. So I`m in the store looking at the bottles, having no idea which one to choose, and what do I see? An Australian wine called Cliff79. I couldn't believe my eyes! There's a wine with Heath's name and his birth year! That made my choice suddenly very easy. :DDD

Happy birthday to Mr WDW. :)

This is off topic, but I just read that Jeanne Simmons has died. She was my favorite of the old movie stars, and I enjoyed watching her old movies very much.

How did that Austrailian taste Olympia. Was it a chardonnay? red or white? Sec or Demi-sec? I'm intrigued. A Heathcliffe 79 - that's spooky and amazing that it found you at that time. Meant to be.

WDW, no I didn't see anything Jakey on the telethon. :/

Happy birthday to Mr. WDW!

Enjoy Brothers all you UKers!!

I hope the UK Brothers watching is going great...Cheers to all of you watching today!

I looked closely (more like analyzed - LOL!) the telethon footage and did not see Jake, unfortunately. It would have been nice to see him there. He looks GREAT in the PSA (for the few seconds that we get to see him). Makes me think about what we missed not seeing him on TV last night. Sightings putting him not in LA makes it seem like something came up that he couldn't miss. Maybe a photos will surface soon? I like photos!!

I love your Australian wine experience Olympia! It reminds me of when I went to Heath's apartment 2 years ago and after spending hours at the memorial a friend and I went to The Spotted Pig for dinner and ordered Australian wine for the same reasons you did - but I think I would have remembered that name if it was the same! Very special indeed. I thought of you viewing BBM yesterday. *heavy sigh*

Thanks for the new/old video clips WDW - I will never get tired of these old gems! Makes me look forward to all the new stuff to come in 2010!

Well, I'm off to watch Candy now. I think I'm asking for trouble with this one - but it just feels right at this time. *more heavy sighs*

I think I need some new Jake pics to cheer me up.

Have a good Saturday everyone and Happy Birthday Mr. WDW!

:-)

Hi there everyone! Just got back from a lovely Brothers afternoon out with Ruby, Nouskie and Winterbird :D And good to see the Crazy Heart trailer too :) Enjoyed re-acquainting myself with Tommy...

Carol, I'm glad you enjoyed the clip at MB :D

Hi Olympia! OMG that bottle was made to be drunk and enjoyed :)

That is sad news, Anon, but a good age.

Hi Sheba!

Thanks, Get Real :D

Hey BBMISwear :-) Jake looks so good in that video - love the jumper. It does indeed look like Jake may be in San Fran, lucky man :D

Good luck with Candy - the start of that is such a favourite with me, but I can't watch it when it gets hard.

Have a good evening everyone. Gonna do a new post :D
