While I wait (with everything crossed) to discover if I will be snowed in tomorrow with nothing but a home full of chocolate scraps, cheese, half a veggie garlic kiev and Jake Gyllenhaal DVDs for sustenance, there is time for a short post. It's actually cause for a celebration because today I learned that the Unnamed Moon Project is no longer UMP! The Unnamed Moon Project has been given a name and that can mean only one thing - it's still on the way. And the name? Argonauts.
I'm sure you'll agree - or maybe you don't - that this is a huge improvement on the last hinted at name of Trip of a Lifetime. Evenn better, the name Argonauts comes from the best source, Doug Liman himself.
While it would appear very unlikely that Jake can cram in Argonauts (why am I thinking short tunics, skeletons with swords, ships with big oars, sandals?) before Source Code begins to film in early March, Doug's continued blogging to the ninjas about the film suggests that it is still very much his next project. Perhaps Source Code will allow Doug the time he needs to solve the problem of making the moon more realistic to audiences than the unfinished Tower Bridge of Sherlock Holmes. On this I must agree with Doug. Good movie, bad bridge.
Talking of Source Code, director Duncan Jones has tweeted (example tweet) that he is already in Montreal doing prep for the movie but that he will shortly be in LA.
Princess of Persia
While it is inevitable that our attention is very much on a certain Jake Gyllenhaal when it comes to Prince of Persia - after all, the film is called Prince of Persia - Gemma Arterton has been in the British press today. In the interviews Gemma shows that she is every bit as feisty as the Princess she plays in PoP. And it turns out that it wasn't only Jake who had to make some accent adjustment: 'Similarly, she makes no attempt to hide the Estuary vowels in her busy speech rhythms, and proudly remembers dressing down her Prince of Persia director Mike Newell when he told her to change her accent. “When he first met me for the film he said, ‘Oh dear. Can’t you do posh?’ I thought, ‘I can’t believe he’s asked me that!’ So I said (firmly, through gritted teeth), ‘Of course I can, I went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic F***ing Art!”' It's a very enjoyable article, you can read it here.
This post is illustrated with more lovely pictures from Jake's arrival at LAX on 3 January, thanks to IHJ. Has anyone worked out what the label of the new bag reads?

Jake's upcoming projects sound very interesting, particualrly Source Code and Argonauts.
Thanks for all the updates WDW. :)
Thank God for that name change! Even Unnamed Moon Project was a better title than Trip of a Lifetime! I like Argonauts. Its a nice image from Greek mythology of heroes travelling far away.
Gemma sure sounds feisty! She swears as much as Jake! :D I had no idea about the 12 fingers thing!
Olympia
Thanks Jake Fan! It's a pleasure :) I've got to say that a year spent filming Source Code and Argonauts would be well spent. And maybe capped off with Damn Yankees?
Hi there Olympia! OMG you are so right - trip of a Lifetime was awful!! I like Argonauts a lot - it conjures up images of classic movies and literature, adventure, expeditions and exploration and hot weather :D It's a good image.
Gemma sounds like so much fun. I bet she made Jake laugh a lot!
The snow is falling :D
hey WDW,
Thanks for letting us know about the name of the moon project movie. Argonauts. Sounds like that old movie Jason and the argonauts. It will be interesting who gets the honor of Jake being on their movie set first. Source Code or Argonauts.
It's a win-win situation for us
sweetpea
Hi Sweetpea! Certainly does, that's why I'm talking sandals, fighting skeletons and short tunics - I loved that film :D I'm sure Source Code will be first but as you say it's win win for us. Good days!
umm...Argonauts??? :I sounds like a video game or cartoon series for kids.
you know what immediately came to my mind?the Gorgonites in the movie Small Soldiers lol.
idk,i think it sounds too weird and not in a good way.i hope they can come up with something better till release date.
Hi Gretchen! Really? I like it a lot, it conjures up some great images to me. I am blessed though in that I've never seen Small Soldiers :D However, I have a big love of classical literature and so the name has fab connotations for me. Love it - brings up memories about mythology, literature and good filmmaking (and bare legs).
Evening everyone on WDW from cold cold NYC in the cold cold USA:) TY for Jake's movie title update. It makes me think of one of my family's favorite movies, "Jason and the Argonauts."
Jake looks great. He looks so good in his latest pics, he's inspired me to get out one of his DVDs, curl up with some hot chocolate and relax *sigh*:)
love you all,
sass
Gemma is very funny. ;)
I like the title too, for the same reason as you all - classical literature.
I like the title too, for the same reason as you all - classical literature.
Me too.
I'm not a fan of Doug Liman, so I don't have high hopes about this project.
I have more interest in Source Code.
Hi Sass! From a very cold, cold, snowbound England. That's one of my favourite old movies too. That sounds like such the perfect evening - enjoy it, my friend *)
Hey Anon :D Gemma's great. I love the classical link.
Hi there Monica! I am so excited about Source Code, and it's actually happening!! I do admire Doug, I like him, and I like Jake's involvement in shaping this. I'm ready for great things :D
Ooh, such a lot of snow...
This morning my son Lars, a 41-year old military history author, sent me this:
Quote
We had a babysitter last night and were able to se ”AVATAR”. It is the new “Star Wars” – you MUST see it. Preferably in 3D as we did but it is OK with glasses. The hero is a former Marine, his name is Jake, and when he has to explain to the extraterrestrials from where he comes, he says he is from the Jarhead-clan!
Unquote
Has anybody else noted that before?
H.
Morning all! Snowed in under well over a foot of snow. Some serious snowman construction going on...
Have a good day :D
HDU!Small Soldiers is an amazing masterpiece! =P (my cousins used to have the VHS tape of it.so i've seen it quite a lot when i was younger.lol.)
hmmm.idk maybe i'm not knowledgeable enough in classical literature because all i could think of was litte brown monsters with horns when i read "Argonauts" lol.
re Avatar- that "Jake from Jarhead clan" line made me laugh and think about Jake too.
wasn't Jake considered for the part?or am i remembering wrong?(i even remember James Cameron saying something like the other actors who were considered didn't have Sam Worthington's charisma or something.BS!no offense to Sam W.)
i'm glad he wasn't cast though.we wouldn't be able to see his beautiful face. :] and it's not really a rewarding film acting-wise.i couldn't really make a judgement because idk how much of the acting was done by the actor and how much of it was done by CG.
I so love hearing about the progress of Jake's movies. 2010 may make up for the drought we went through recently.
I couldn't make out the logo on the new backpack but also am wondering what the small box with colorful design is in the side pocket next to the sunglasses. Almost looks like a little wrapped present. Something leftover from Christmas perhaps?!
I'm happy for you being snowed in WDW. Lots of snow on the ground here in New England but all cleaned up from Sunday so it's business as usual.
Thanks for the updates...keep em' comin'!!
:-)
I saw Avatar too and smiled at the jarhead line. Coming from a character named Jake, how could I not! :)
Not to say that I've been studying the airport pictures, but I have a theory about the colorful box in Jake's backpack. I think it could be a box of tissues.
Olympia
Hi Gretchen! Chuckling at you and your small soldiers. You must see Jason and the Argonauts! Agreed about Avatar, great to look at, but not what you'd call an actors' movie. I think they considered everyone - I suppose they would do as it took them 14 years to make.
Hey BBMISwear :-) Maybe Jake's bought us some chocolates! Any bit of snow and England collapses but now we have an awful lot of snow! Never seen so much.
Hi Olympia! Posting at the same time :D Hmmm, tissues, that's a good idea. I'm going out to feed the ducks.
Fulton, New York has 55 inches of snow. It's been snowing since Christmas. You can manage two feet WDW. Just cocoon with food,Jake movies, brandy, and tea! A bit of cake is good, too.
My word was "kavolp" which is something we do here in upstate New York, when we aren't kvetching.
Hi there Constantly Constance! Blimey, that's a lot of snow - do stay coccooned and warm with Jake (and cake) :D
