Jake Gyllenhaal can make terrible pancakes, Jake wears a shirt and Three years ago today...

Jake Gyllenhaal... terrible pancakes - two things that I never, ever expected to see in the same sentence. But it is true. Jake was so overwhelmed with the announcement of Maggie's Oscar nomination that even Ramona turned her nose up at his pancake offering on the morning of the good news.

{Apologies to all those who can't see this video due to ridiculous geographical restrictions - I'll try and come up with an alternative this evening.]

I can sympathise. This evening I received my Valentine surprise - frozen pancakes that you revive by bunging in the microwave for a few seconds. The horror is writ large on my non-smiling face.

Jake was photographed yesterday with Peter Sarsgaard in the other Venice. The photos can be seen on the IHJ forum but one has made it to People. Jake continues his mannikin shirt in, shirt out look - see previous WDW GyllenGuide to Wearing a Shirt Post.

Today Jake has been hard at work creating promos for Prince of Persia: 'Jake Gyllenhaal was so cool and so chill, we joked around and had a great time, you'll see the Promo's sooon!'

Today is such a significant day for me and I know I mention it every year but no apologies. Today is the third anniversary of meeting my Bafta Sisters Ruby, Anouska and Mouk in London. We also saw another chap that day for the first time, face to face. Life changing, it really was.

Pictures from links, IHJ and a nostalgic and sentimental WDW.

Were the frozen pancakes a gift from Mr. WDW? How romantic! :DD
Are they really so bad? We have some here and they're not as good as homemade but they're edible. I can't stand frozen french toast though.

Loved the interview with Maggie, she looked really nice. It's always fun to hear her talk about Jake. And she even mentionned Chris!

And happy Bafta anniversary! I remember that day well, I followed your adventures while lurking on DCF. So much fun! :) Was it the first time you met Anouska, Uli and Mouk or were you friends before that?

Hahaha! Aside from those pancakes, it really sounds like Jake is an exceptional cook :) if we go by the equation acting skills = cooking skills. I wonder if he will open his own restaurent in the future. Jake is looking very good! I love those glasses on him! Yum.

Hei Olympia! They were indeed a gift - and they're not getting a lot of appreciation. We don't do Valentines so I'm being taunted instead - I love pancakes! I want real pancakes :D

It's a lovely interview with Maggie - and yeay for Chris!

Oh that's wonderful that you remember our big day too! It was me, Ruby, Anouska and Mouk. We'd never met before. I stayed the night over with Ruby and Mr Ruby (a fine fish pie - always to be remembered) and then we caught up with the other two at about 5am on Sunday in Covent Garden. We don't see enough of Mouk as she's now in Canada in BBM territory (although she and I went to Cannes together) but Ruby and Anouska are a BIG part of my life :)

Hi Silver! Jake looks so, so great. Just look at him, sigh. But I love that when he's feeling emotional even he forgets what he's doing with pancakes (still better than my frozen Valentine pancakes, mind you...).

PS for all those interested, a new post at MB about reboots and rebooted rebooties

Oups! Sorry, I did mean Ruby!
It's so great that you guys met and became friends because of Jake. :)

It really is great, Olympia, and from that day came all of this! I know people have their BBM day and that's such a wonderful thing and this is the date for me that has coloured everything since.

Wow, so much good Jake stuff lately! I love the Mellow Johnny hat. :) Everyone can have cooking days where things don't turn out that well - but I bet he makes great pancakes - and the lucky person who he makes them for in the a.m.!

My work is mista - lookin' good mista! I really am getting excited about seeing Prince of Persia now. :)

^^sorry, that should read "word".

It was a strange day. But In a good way. I still find it hard to believe that I got up at stupid o'clock on a Sunday to stand around in the cold for hours and act like a teenager!

We don't do Valentines in our house, but I bet I could drop some hints and get some fab homemade pancakes for breakfast on Sunday. Lovely.

Hi Anon! Oh to be made Jake pancakes :)

How glad I am, Rubes, that you did that :D what a cold day it was. I remember I was off with the flu the next week. But it was amazing! I remember sitting in the pub afterwards toasting each other and Jake and getting calls from our Jake friends. What an experience! And I remember it today!!

PS I want some of those pancakes, Rubes! Not my frozen experimental ones!

I'm sure Jake's worst pancakes were better than my best ones. I simply cannot do them right. :-( But I wonder how anyone outside the Gyllenhaal family knew these particularly pancakes were bad? Did Maggie say so in an interview? If so, it's one I missed. Anyway, pancakes are hardly haute cuisine. They're okay for sheepherders up in the mountains of Wyoming, but...

Not impressed with YouTube.
That interview with Maggie on Jimmy Kimmel is blocked in Australia because of copyright reasons in my country. Not happy.

Sorry your Valentines pancakes weren't good, WDW.

Happy Bafta anniversary!

Great post, as always.

Wow, I just caught Maggie's Jimmy Kimmel clip. Lately, she's looking more gorgeous than ever. Love the little black dress and her hair up.

I love pancakes! I always try to do a Valentine's Day brunch for my husband. I can't decide on banana walnut or blueberry. :)

Happy 3rd anniversary, WDW!
I was talking to Maya earlier and she reminded me that yesterday (11 Feb) was mouk's birthday. I knew it was in Feb, but I totally forgot the date. I'll send her a belated e-card.

I can't watch the Maggie clip because of copyright reasons, but I'll try and see if it's uploaded somewhere else...

Thanks for the great post!
I'll reply to your email soon.
My flight to Rome was ok. Am enjoying the Italian 'version' of pancakes, called "frappe", they're delicious, especially if home-made.

Hugs

Morning everyone!

Hi Paul! I consider myself a bit of a pancake gourmet but I think they're a different beast in the UK. Which reminds me, pancake Day is coming up :D Maggie mentions the terrible pancaes in this half of the Jimmy Kimmel interview that I've included.

Tas, that's bad! I had no idea there were regional problems with this video as it amazingly shows in the UK. I'll find another version or send you it :)

Thanks Get Real :D

Hey Paola! I didn't realise 11 Feb was Mouk's birthday! I think on the day 3 years ago we might have been distracted from it - although I think she had a good day :D I'll try and replace the YouTube vid.

ooh I love frappe too :D Have a good trip!

Have a good day everyone - Friday!

Happy 3rd Anniversary WDW:)

Bloody copyright restrictions:( Does anyone know if Maggie's Jimmy Kimmel interview is anywhere else on Youtube free of copyright. I have spent my lunchbreak searching the net in vain.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Carol! I'll upload another version to YouTube when I get home :D

That would be great if you could WDW:)

I might be a bit late on this as I haven't been on for a few days but I saw some details on the bonus features for Brothers DVD- a commentary by Jim Sheridan and a couple of featurettes I think. I do enjoy listening to Jim Sheridan so looking forward to his commentary.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

No problem, Carol :D I saw that two but I've not done much about it on here so that's a good reminder!

Wow...another great post WDW! And I've *needed* these posts lately because this week has been way to busy for my liking and I'm not getting enough internet time! GRRR.

I absolutely adore the Maggie on JKL interview...I smiled and laughed right along with her through the whole thing!

Oh you know how I feel about anniversary dates - we have to relive them and enjoy them and feel those connections - love them! And happy BAFTA anniversary to you and the girls!!

Love the pics of Jake and Peter and the excitement of PoP promos to come soon...whoowheee!

I mentioned a quick comment about the Brothers DVD here the other day but didn't bother listing the details because, honestly, I am EXTREMELY disappointed in what we are getting for bonus features. As an expert on DVD bonus features (ha ha!) I must say that I think movie studios completely underestimate the importance of bonus features and what the fans of movies want to see in the bonus features(you know, the people that go see certain films at least 5 times or more in the theater and buy the DVD the day it comes out in stores). Perhaps I should apply for a position where I can help make DVD bonus feature recommendations? Just a thought.

Okay...rant over.

Happy Friday everyone - I'm in major need of this weekend!

I saw that Jimmy Kimmel interview. Maggie was very relaxed and funny and she told Jimmy that she was spending time with her brother and when they found out she got the nomination I think Jake was so happy and flustered he forgot how to make pancakes. She said that Ramona, who'll eat just about anything, didn't like them.

I think she also made reference to Jake's friend Chris when she said he had a friend who worked in Mario Bateli's restaurant Babbos.

I am glad you found the people mag photo.

BBMIswear, you're absolutely right :) film studios don't have a clue about what to add to DVDs to make them really attractive to fans!

(I still haven't recovered from the disappointment about the lack of audio commentary on the BBM DVD... not to mention deleted scenes...)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi BBMISwear :-) I know, it's been such a mad week. I'm hoping we both get some Jaking time this weekend.

Hi Sweetpea :D It's a great interview - I've uploaded another version now (new post) which hopefully everyone will be able to see.

I totally agree, Paola :D
