I'm working myself up to this post - done a run round the block, eaten a banana, drunk a Power Drink - almost there. So before we start, I suggest you eat something sugary and maybe do a few laps of your local pool. Flex those GyllenMuscles because there's so much going on, this post may take me until the premiere of Source Code to finish. However, without any more - or too much - ado, I will proceed. First off, can I just say, how great it is to see Jake in London! We love to see you here, Jake! (sorry about the weather and the cost of cabs...)
At the risk of being accused of going off at a tangent before I even start, I just want to draw attention to PoPSugar posting that Jake Gyllenhaal had a pub lunch in London today. Whether this is true or not, reading the words Jake and Pub in the same sentence makes me feel as toasty as an old English inn on a winter's evening with a fire roaring and real ale flowing freely through the pumps, to be served in pint glasses with handles, while everything I eat is served with pickle or custard. I must say that if I do go off on a tangent, it's not my fault. It's the pushmepullyou of being a Jake fan.
So, while fearing that this post may need updating before it's even finished, here is a bit of what we got today.
We've had featurettes and we've had trailers, but today we got not one but two real, proper, unclipped clips from Prince of Persia. The first one puts us right in the middle of a chase scene in which Jake shows us just why he was so well cast for this role - agile, fit, dextrous and nimble. And that's just for starters. Whoever said that walls and chasms are barriers? Not a bit of it.
In the second, we have a tent scene, in which Dastan and his brothers discuss the battle ahead (with Dastan clearly at odds) - We attack at Dawn. Thanks to Sweetpea for the heads up.
The Ninjas are back! Today we have part two of their interview with Jake and it is full of goodies, not least some info on the film that I am so keen to see made - that film with the most memorable of titles, UMP (that's Unnamed Moon Project to those who don't know). Here are some snippets, surrounded by some wonderful pictures of Jake from last night and today around our fair city of London, courtesy of IHJ. Love that jacket!
Jake talks about the mistakes that made it into the movie - acting on the edge like this, with stunts just a step or inch away from dangerous reality: 'I remember this one scene where I got pulled from first unit to second unit really, really quickly, and we had this big fight scene with Toby Kebbell, who plays my brother in the movie. We had it choreographed, and he had worked on it a lot, but I had had very little time to work on it. But my character was sort of, you know, up against the wall at that point. And so I was literally just defending myself from his entire choreographed fight. I would remember it piece by piece kind of, but not really the whole thing, and the whole thing has the feeling of me going like, “Holy Shit!” The whole thing is me just being like, “Got it! Made that! OK, back over here, OK, we’re here, holy fuck! Wow, I punched him! Wow! Okay!” You know? It’s all real. There was one moment, too, where my stunt guy — I had practiced with him a lot of the time, and then I come in and when I was doing it there’s one wipe across my face where I’m supposed to duck, and he has an ax, and the ax comes at my face –'
'JULINA: Oh my God! JAKE: – and, like, literally with two hand-held cameras, [second Unit Director]Alexander Witt got the best angle: With nothing enhanced in it, you see he actually almost cut my face off. It’s great.' I need to have a brandy and regain my composure...
If anyone were ever to ask me why it is that I have followed Jake Gyllenhaal for years, I could give them 1000 answers. And one of them would be this paragraph from Jake encased in gold with diamond knobbly bits on it. 'It all feels like that, and I was game for that, and that’s what’s fun. [Laughs] I think I even remember, we did the big wide shot of it, and by the end I had made so many mistakes every time I would do it that I would just, I just ended up laughing at the end. You know, it was ridiculous, but all those things had that feeling. I would get to set and they would be like, “Okay, so, um, follow me up to the top of this building,” and I’d be like, “What are we doing?” and they’re like, “You’re jumping off of it!” and I’d be like, “What?” [Laughs] So then I had to [jump]. And then here come the guys on the opposite side, and I’m — this is the second time I’ve tried this jump, and I’m just gonna do it. And that’s the feeling of the movie. It’s not, “I know exactly what I’m doing all the time.” Not at all. Not in any way. And I think that’s why it’s superfun. I took a photograph of myself after I did my first huge jump. Because I didn’t know on that day that we were gonna do the jump, and I was ecstatic that I had done it, and I was like, “I got it, I got it.” I just took my phone and took a picture of just, like, this massive smile on my face.'
And, at last, we hear something about UMP, the project that we've been listening out for - is it decades? And with it, Jake talks about when he likes his commitment to a project to begin. For anyone who's been interested in how Jake is motivated as a career, this is fascinating stuff: 'I think, ideally, I do like to be with the material for a long time. And I liken it to rehearsing fight choreography or trying to figure out an accent. I’m definitely not an actor that picks it up immediately and can roll with it. I need to go over it over and over and over again, and that’s something I’ve learned [about myself] over time. I like to be there for a few drafts before it becomes the final shooting version because, particularly if you’re in a majority of the scenes of the movie, you’re part of the steering of the ship, so you just need to know that ship really well and where it’s going. I get off on that too — that’s what I enjoy. That’s why it’s been fun working with Doug, and with Simon [Kinberg] on [the Untitled Moon Project] developing this movie together, because they’re really collaborative and we’ve been through different versions discussing things all the time, and all of that discussion goes into whatever the final version is. Even if the scenes you’ve discussed for years don’t end up in the final version of the movie, somehow they’re there, you know? So I like to be a part of it, and I also think it’s really bonding to be doing that with all the filmmakers. You’re with your director and you’re with your writers — you’re listening to how they work, and how they change things, and what makes them nervous, and how you can make them feel comfortable, on the day. You know, with some directors — most directors — I like to know what they have to have the day before [we shoot a given scene], so that they can start their day. I like to know how you can give them what they want.'
When it comes to PoP, you sense that Jake had a helluva lot of fun making this movie and his feeling for it is so hard to resist, it's catching. 'One of my favorite things in the movie was when we were shooting a lot of rooftop chase sequences between the real rooftops in Morocco, in different casbahs [North African fortresses] and on stages in London, and there was this sequence where I did a jump, without any wires, on stage. I had four or five different guards chasing after me, and one of the guards was supposed to miss — jump just short — and I was supposed to make it and the other three or four guards were supposed to make it. So I jumped and I made it. Everyone was freaked out that I had no wires on, and I had way too much fun. Then the guy who was following me jumped, and he hit his face on the casbah and his hat flew off and went flying 30 feet in the air. He hurt his jaw, but it’s in the movie, and it looks amazing! He’s OK — he’s actually fine, but it looks really not fun when you see it. Those types of things happen, and you flirt with that type of danger, and there are times when — particularly jumping all those big jumps — in order to make it look really cool, it has to be a little bit dangerous.'
The two swords across the back were the Prince's weapons of choice but 'There were a couple of missed opportunities with that, where I was supposed to coolly pull them out of my back and I couldn’t reach them. I’m like, “I’m gonna kick your ass … in one second … when I can grab both of these … give me another second … hold on one more second …” [laughs]. But that was it, just two swords. That’s my style — and I can run away from anybody.'
And finally
You don't need me to tell you that I have accidentally or intentionally bought every bit of PoP merchandise going. We didn't have this for Zodiac....(that's my excuse). Today, my Beneath the Sands book arrived and, in addition to all sorts of surprises in its pages, there was a sting in the tail. Fortunately I had my Ostrich Dastan and my Aksh (bless you) Dastan to help me out. For anyone (ie Mr WDW) who can't tell, this is a snake!
Pictures courtesy of IHJ plus a particularly spectacular one from WDW.
I knew this post would be updated! And so it is. Jake is recording the Jonathan Ross show this evening and we have our first glance of the green room, with Adam Lambert. Thanks Rubes!

Some very nice pictures of Jake's jacket there, but I have no idea what that is in your book! :D :D
OMG It's a snake!! Mr WDW said it was a dragon - it's not a dragon. It's clearly a very obviously shaped and scary cobra!
It's a great book, it has all sorts of bits you can pull and push and open. And a dagger you can waggle. I'm gonna bring it with me this weekend, just in case we get hours to kill by... a red carpet, for instance!
thanks for the posting the vids WDW.
i'm seeing zthe film on 21st! :D
btw someone posted this at ONTD:Jake and Adam Lambert in Jonathan Ross' Green Room
Thanks you for all you do, WDW. I love all the clips (and I'm glad I was able to contribute something to the POP cause :D)
So do you think that UMP will be Jake's next project of the Damned Yankee will be?
sweetpea
Ah yes, I can see it now (if I squint and hold my MacBook at a 45 degree angle). It's a very lifelike giant cobra. I'm sure you'll be safe from it with two Dastan's and sneezing horses to protect you.
Good post by the way. :)
Thanks WDW this is a really busy time and it's so nice to read everything in one place! :D
That second picture of Jake looking into the camera is beautiful!
I laughed so much when i read Jake took a picture of himself after jumping with a big smile! I can just imagine him doing that.
I like the vids :) His accent sounded a bit different in this clip.
Gretchen - that pic is great!!! Jake suits looks great! Can i ask what ONTD is :D?
Im sure you'll be pleased WDW, def. a better suit than last time :D and the hair, and the stubbleee, and the top buttons open..and it will all be in HD ;)
Silver

I feel faint... If I go off for a while can someone come and find me with some mint tea...
Hi Gretchen! It's not long now, is it?! Ruby sent me the picture and so I've updated the post - wonderful!
Thanks Sweetpea ::D I'd love to know what's next. I suspect a break and then maybe the Jack and the Killers project (a brief filler) and then another major film - Id love to know which.
Thanks Rubes! It's most definitely a vicious cobra! D'you like my Dastans...?
Flip, it took me so lomg to post that comment, there are others!
Hi Silver! They're lovely, lovely pics :D Definitely a better suit :D
I know, Get Real! It's all so much I could just pass out! It's so full on, it's incredible.
Me neitherm T! It'll never be the same again :)
Silver - ONTD stands for Oh No They Didn't a celebrity gossip community at livejournal.
and i agree with you about Jake's suit.all black.mmm
WDW can i ask you a question? This guy - @JBGyllenhaal is impersonating Jake on twitter. Well Jonathan ross just replied to, potentially getting him loads more followers. Is there anyway to stop him? Its VERY annoying the amount of people who fall for it :/
Silver
This guy drives me mad too, Silver. He is a FAKE! I've tweeted but we need more well known people to say something. Duncan Jones and Jake's father have both said/retweeted this account is a fake!
Jake's father has a twitter?
Details on Stephen Gyllenhaal's website http://stephengyllenhaal.net/
I feel faint as well!! Just from looking at the pics and reading the interviews. YOU are a strong woman. Thank you thank you thank you for all the work you put here. And the extra laughs, which are very welcome.
Must be a thrill to have Jake staying in your country. The air probably feels sweeter when you breath! I'm really happy for you guys.
Jake is looking wonderful. I love his Source Code hairstyle.
Thanks for the enthusiastic post. Great clips. I love that action scene - very looking forward to the film now :)
And Friday night with JR will be great fun - can this Friday get any better :P Wonder if it's the first time Jake meets Adam Lambert.
Jake seems really into that jacket :) Is it just me, or Jake is smiling and looking really handsome in London? We think London suits you, Jake :P
Hi Alejandra! It's true! The air does feel sweeter :) We're lucky, Jake's here quite a bit but it always feels wonderful. I'm so glad you enjoy the laughs :D
Hey there Winterbird! I can't wait to see it too! I love that jacket - fortunately Jake seems to love it too :D
About the fake, I don't follow him but on Monday I witnessed a bad joke he made. I knew right away it was going to upset people and then he apologised and deleted that tweet. So OBVIOUS it's not Jake. Still, this woman said "I used to respect you. But now I'm done". You can't be that naive!
Having a crazy time so haven't had a chance to watch those clips yet. Something to look forward to later:)
Those close up pics are gorgeous.
I was thinking JR was being filmed tonight. It's great to see a pic from the green room. I love Adam Lambert too:)
Did JR just reply to the fake Twitter account. What did ya do that for Wossy!
Alejandra, this guy is a fruitloop... And he has no sense of grammar :D
It's so great to see a pic, Carol! Of course the fake twitter is passing this off as his pic...
We have to get rid of this guy! IT obviously isn't Jake, you only have to read it. And now he says his parents don't have twitter accounts when his father has one on his own website! Crazy and... Fake!
leighbaby_ HOLY SHIT LOLLL I WAS IN A COMPETITION WITH JAKE GYLENHAL TO EAT A PICKLED ONION!!!!!
leighbaby_ No one will believe what just happened to me!!
colezz brb, crying @ how @leighbaby_ got hugged and kissed by my man jake gyllenhaal.
haha! lol!
Oh... my... God.... Jake was in a pickled onion eating competition?? Jake is obviously British!
Thanks for the tweets, guys! I love Jake but I fear I'm not up to a pickled onion contest... I can't even eat one of them! Mr WDW on the other hand...
Jake is made for English pub games!
Wow where to begin!
I saw the posted earlier while at work but decided I needed to be at home to fully enjoy it. So with some delicious ice cream in hand on this hot day in NYC, I managed to get through every wonderful word/pic/video in this post. Although I do have to say I blame Jake for making the ice cream melt a bit quicker ;-)
London does seem to be doing well for him these pictures are gorgeous! I too like the 2nd one of him looking at the camera. The hair, the jacket, the pants, the smile all of it just simply gorgeous!
I love the new PoP clips. I still don't know how I'm going to get through this film. Every clip of it makes me giggle like a schoolgirl. I've always had a thing for English accents and now that Jake is trying one on it's just overwhelming! I have to try to desensitize myself to all of it so I can sit through the film without getting strange looks from people around me.
My only complaint, I didn't like reading that Jake almost had his face taken off by an ax, I can just see the headlines if that actually happened. Thank god it didn't! I love that he's so dedicated to his work but really Jake please try to be a bit more careful next time!
Okay I think I'm done for now. Sorry to be so long-winded!
I think I was traumatized from the interview with Jimmy Kimmel that always twist my nose when I read that he will be in a talk show.
I did not like this new photoshoot.
I love the new jacket.
I do not like the idea of seeing Jake working with Doug Liman. I like to know that he is one of the producers, I think it will be significant for him, but in my opinion Doug Liman is mediocre.
Hope he is just producer of this film.
Morning :D
If you're entitled, VOTE!
Morning Leslie! Jake and ice cream are a fabulous combination and one of my favourites. I have a serious ice cream addiction...
The clips are just amazing - there is so much going on (that's an understatement...). But yes! No accidents, please, Jake :( Remember you're talking to the Queen of Longwindedness here so don't apologise :)
Hi Monica! I cannot wait to see Jake on the JR show and tht little pic - OMG how hot he looks. Incredible. Hopefully, you won't take as badly to this interview. Love the jacket!
Have a great day everyone and to the Brits.... VOTE!
Good luck today Brits with your election and I hope, as WDW says, that everyone votes! :)
Thanks for being understanding of my longwindedness. I have no other outlet for my love for Jake so I have to get it all out here :)
Does anyone know if the Jonathan Ross interview will be available online this weekend? I have BBC America but they run shows a week behind so I won't be able to see Jake until next Friday. I'm not a patient person so I really don't want to wait that long.
Thanks, Get Real :D My polling station is in a shack in the middle of nowhere - it's quite a trek, so I'm taking supplies!
That's good, Leslie :D This is certainly the place to do that :)
Hopefully JR will be online very soon. I really hope so.
All the PoP excitement this week has put me off my food - so I'm trying to eat lots of chocolate to compensate :D
Do you reckon JR will be online before it's aired WDW?
"I think I was traumatized from the interview with Jimmy Kimmel"
Can i ask why Monica?
Silver
Hi Silver :D No, it won't be online before it transmits.
Hi Monica - we will never agree on that one :)
I hope everyone has voted or is about to - I just got back - now nothing to do but wait with fingers crossed.
I do not like that interview because he was behaving like an immature person, especially about that tattoo and merkin.
I think he was a bit disrespectful with Anne when he talked about the sex scenes in laod.
But that's just my opinion. I know that many people liked. And I respect that.
I voted! Can I have my sticker now please?
My polling station is nearby, so it didn't take long, but for the first time ever I had to queue!
I actually watched the Jimmy Kimmel interview again last night and I found Jake to be really charming and funny. As a former Pittsburgh girl I loved hearing him talk about local favorites Primanti Bros. I can see why some wouldn't like the interview though.
I want a sticker too, Rubes!
I loved it, Leslie :D
Hi Guys
Found this link http://justjared.buzznet.com/2010/05/06/jake-gyllenhaal-prince-of-persia-sequel/#comments

Fair enough Monica. I respect your oppinion. Personally, i found the interview hilarious and has me laughing my head of every time i watch it :)
Glad everyones voted! I'm 5 months too young :(
