Jake Gyllenhaal works out with Austin Nichols and Sophia Bush - and PoP tops international box office!

All this talk about Jake Gyllenhaal's incredible workout regime for Prince Dastan appears to have given Jake a bit of a nudge... Yesterday (29 May), Jake spent a couple of hours down the gym in LA with Austin Nichols and Sophia Bush. He then went home to eat a piece of dark chocolate and have an occasional glass of wine (please see earlier post this evening). Please note how I'm not mentioning Austin's socks...

I just updated this evening's earlier post with the great news that Prince of Persia has topped the international/foreign (ie, not the US but the rest of us) box office! According to THR: 'The Disney film drew $59 million from 7,100 screens in 47 territories for an early international cume of $87.5 million. Taking second place on the weekend was " Sex and the City 2," which opened on the foreign circuit with $27.6 million from 3,700 screens in 17 markets.' Things may have been slow in the US this weekend, but this is great news! I would like to point out that I am not responsible for all of those cinema tickets, just a healthy bunch of them.

That's great news about the box office!! Some people were already calling it a flop, which was pathetic. I really want there to be a sequel, i will definatley attend that premiere ;)

hahaha Austin's socks!

Just want to say that i seriously think there is no better blog than WDW :) thankyou for existing :D

Great news about the international markets, I was so worried. Maybe the foregin markets will carry the movie for awhile and US will be steady and carry it to a sequel. But the up to all of this is Jake is now an international draw he was already a critical succes in the US and abroad. I think SATC and POP split the women target market. But I don't know what happened to the kiddie market. I hope it wasn't anything to do with that 14 year old know it all movie critic who said that POP was a letdown and was not a good action movie. But he loved all the Pixar movies? I don't get it.

Well good for Jake otherwise. Too much facial hair in the pics here though.

Hi Silver! I think it was a slow weekend in the US but let's face it, there's a lot of the world outside the US too and PoP was top! Not surprisingly considering the weather, more people in the UK went to see it this weekend. I hope you will!

Thank you so much Silver - that's a lovely thing to say (I'm glad I exist too!) xx

Hi 22:48! Posting at the same time :D Jake must be relaxing now as the scruff is definitely getting longer (we need his mum to visit again...)

The good news here, as you say, is that this film is giving Jake huge recognition outside the US and he's knocking people out left, right and centre. I find it hard to understand the appeal of SATC as it's the type of movie I wouldn't go to if paid to. But hopefully in the US PoP will be steady and SATC will disappear quickly - after all who'd see that more than once? But yes, this is good for Jake!

Hi Linda! And thank you!!

Nice socks Austin! :DD It`s nice to see Jake hanging out with old friends, it`s been a while.

That`s good news about the box office. You know, the critics` reviews were mixed but when I read the comments by viewers on a site were they list the canadian movie theaters` schedules, people really liked it, they overall rate it an 8.2 out of 10 for 46 reviews. Sex and the City 2 only got a 6.5. I think the good word of mouth will help.

I didn`t get a chance to comment on the previous post but wanted to say that the article on kissing Jake was hilarious! And that to me, Heath will always be Jake`s best kiss. :) Also, I agree with the writer, when Dastan and Tamina finally kissed, I literally rolled my eyes. Come on, who takes time to kiss like that when they`re in mortal danger?!

Hi Olympia! I believe PoP was no 1 at the Canadian box office too this weekend! There have been some damn good reviews today as well. Hopefully the US box office will pick up but it's so good to see it doing so well elsewhere. I know more people saw it in Britain this weekend than the hot one last weekend. I think the word of mouth will really be good for PoP because audiences really seem to be loving it.

I loved the Kissing article! That's so funny! I was desperately waiting for Dastan and Tamina to kiss and they picked THAT moment!

Sorry Sass but it's Jake's fault! OMG those socks... The foreign numbers are great. Oh and SEQUEL!

I was away for the weekend celebrating my sister in law's 30th birthday so just catching up on the last few day's posts now. Lisa and Ted's adventure was great to read and watch. Thanks so much for sharing.

That's great news about the international box office. I so want to see Dastan and Tamina again in a sequel.

What's the story with Austin's socks:)

Hiya,

I don't think it matters what happens with PoP, not from my pov anyway: I'm quite happy having him as my little secret, and part of me did not terribly want the other girls in the office drooling over him or 'discovering' him (highly irritating). I like the fact that he is 'in it for the long haul', like Newman and Cary Grant etc, but that no one can pronounce his surname. The only time I wish he was reeeelly famous is when I want some artist to sculpt him in really expensive marble, like in the 5th c BC; cos y'know, that man is so beautiful!
Oh, and I have to admit I do want a sequel, having seen the film so many times already, I know its going to be one of those I can watch peacefully, harmlessly, over and over again - I love that Persian family feel. And the horse and the dust. And there must be so much footage we haven't seen...

Anyway, even if the film is not a 'second Pirates', Hollywood knows Jake can work hard and look gorgeous (the fact that he is a nice person being irrelevant), that is what they'll remember; they're not stupid enough to overlook that. Though come to think of it if the marketing of this film to its supposed 'target' audience is anything to go by, maybe they can be stupid: as if Jake's audience will ever be an agressive male teenager!? Why did they send a whole lot of male journalists to interview him? Are we really wanting to hear about his 'abs' in particular? I'm not a gym teacher! I take the holistic view, and I'm sure most women would agree. But no, its a man's world, hetero or gay, so he's got to be described in a man's **!@! terms. [insert irony at leisure]

His 'real' audience know his name a little better now, even if they can't spell it. Bet LAOD or Source Code (or both) are 'surprise' hits. Don't get me wrong tho, I love 'Persia' for itself and always have done and I think it would be a waste if there was no sequel. I mean, is it not a hit? compared to what? [rant over]

I hope JG realizes some of this. It'll be the first time he's had to think about Box Office to this degree I'll bet and he looks a little sad in these pics. It's a shame after he has worked so hard but he'll get what he wants in the end, he's just that type!

All of the above is IMHO ;0

PS Loved seeing Lisa and Ted in action again. They truly are brilliant Gyllenhaalic ambassodors. I thought Ted looked especially good; too ;D

PPS I bought the Disney movie book of PoP, and as WDW recommended, it is indeed brilliant. Well worth the pennies.

Hi Carol! BBMISwear will be glad to jear you enjoyed it - when she finally gets back to Internet Land!

They're bloody awful! That's the story with Austin's socks! Nice shoes though :D

Hi TD! Posting at the same time! And now I have a rather splendid image in my head of Jake sculpted in marble - like it!

And you are so right - PoP is peaceful and harmless and an absolute joy as a Jake fan to watch. I would absolutely adore a sequel. I loved the characters Dastan and Tamina and I'd like to meet them again.

I also agree with you (I am good this evening) that it's been a man's world with PoP - the majority of the interviews and the reviews. An interesting point that.

I'm glad you bought the book - it's great isn't it. After Jake and Gemma signed mine, I took the covers off to frame and so I entirely dismantled the rest of it for a scrap book. I love it. And so now I have to buy another as I wrecked it (with Jake's help :D).

Great comment, TD - gave me a lot to think about - thanks *)

Thanks WDW! posting late...

I think I should probably also just clarify that when I said 'real' audience, I meant anyone not an agressive male teenager! ;}

G'night

I was rather disappointed when I saw the film in a large theater that it was only half full. It was showing on two screens and when I saw one of the theater employees come in and take a look around, I figured they were counting heads and will probably drop it down to only one screen if it doesn't do better by the end of this holiday weekend.

On the contrary, the amount of people heading in to see SATC was twice as many and more. I know friends that have seen it and were very disappointed. I hope word of mouth will get out that SATC doesn't live up to the hype and more people will give PoP a chance.

I bought my ticket online and left a very positive review after I saw it so that it might encourage those that check out reviews from people that have actually seen a movie and were not there to find fault with it like so many critics.

In any case I am glad it is doing great internationally. It's a fun summer movie and it has Jake in it! How can you go wrong? I plan to go see it again. :)

Great news about the oversees box office numbers! I have to say again how much I enjoyed Prince of Persia. Jake did look really sexy in it - and he had some great lines too. There was one when Tamina was talking about the Gods and he answered her "Your Gods, not mine." and another when he was telling her how he grew up and was found by the King, and how he thought she was a spoiled brat. I loved the kiss, nice closeup. He's got great lips. I'll have to see it again, there's a lot going on in it. There definitely should be a sequel because there's a lot more I want to know! :)

Austin need some socks education!! LOL. But it's great to see Jake hanging out with friends. I like Jake wearing this blue colour :)

Good news about PoP topping the international box office. I think Shrek beat both PoP and SATC2 in US, but I do think PoP has longer staying power than SATC2.

^^sorry, overseas/international box office. :)

I was very concerned about the BO, Wet Dark. Yesterday I read the BOM that the movie was not going well overseas.
But this news made me happy.

I do not expect a sequel, but I wish this movie did a decent box office.

We have to remember that the film has not opened in all markets, including Brazil. I think this movie will have a good box office in my country.

I knew SATC2 would be reduced after the numbers yesterday. This movie is a success just by their fan base as Twilight, but I think he will not win the public over the days.

I've read many positive comments on POP. Mostly people did not expect that the movie was so much fun.

Today, I went to the cinema to see Clash of the Titans. The movie is very very very bad. One of the worst I've ever seen in my life.
But Sam is hot!: P

I also saw the trailer of POP again, this time they showed the second trailer.

Nice to see Jake with friends!

What are these socks, Austin?

Shrek is in 3-D and ticket prices are 2-3 dollars more than the regular price. So if you put what it made to what the price was for the others it didn't do "overwhelming" business either. But can understand it because it is the main family film.
It was just not a strong weekend. But think SATC is already going downhill. POP still has weeks to go and think it will still make money.
Let's hear it for "The World!".

Good morning! And happy holiday Monday to those who are lucky enough to have one :D

Hi Dani! I have a feeling that the buzz from SATC2 will die down extremey quickly (ala Twilight 2) when people realise how bad it is. Shrek's just good family fun - and it's 3D. People like that! And it makes the tickets more expensive = bigger box office.

That's one of my favourite bits too - when they're walking through the desert. I love how Jake delivers those lines :) And yeah, great lips :D

Hi Winterbird! You were up even later than me! I like to see Jake with his friends too - and he does look so good in blue! Agreed about SATC.

Hi Monica! I hope PoP will do very well in Brazil. It's a stayer this film. I imagine it'll have good steady business for quite a while. The PoP trailer was definitely the best thing about Clash of the Titans! That was a horribe film!

Well said 04:33! I couldn't agree more!

I'm off to a food and craft fair at Blenheim Palace today - I expect to come back burdened down with strange foods I won't know what to do with! Jake'd love it :D

Have a good day!

I had to laugh when I saw Austin and those socks. It's nice to see he and Jake were working out together. I liked looking at his arms. I'd love to see him work out, what equipment he uses.

thanks WDW
