You might not have noticed, being all too focused on the extraordinary attention to detail shown by the costumes, weaponry and architectural flourishes (not to mention the fine horsemanship and orstrichmanship), but Jake Gyllenhaal was rather hot in it. If I could have drawn my eyes away from the intriguing headware worn by an army of extras or the exquisite nutcrackers, I may even have appreciated glimpses of Jake's chest and arms. But it's very clear that audiences did indeed notice Jake's charms as shown by his appearance in more Beautiful and Amazing Body lists.
Obviously, there's been some mistake, though, because in PoPSugar's list, they accidentally added an extra 1 next to Jake making him 11th and not first. In People's Most Amazing Bodies issue, Jake is mystifyingly not on the cover. Zac Efron is. The Pale One tops PoPSugar's list, hinting that Jake may look a little too hot for this list. You can see some of the other dubious names to make the list here.
Big thanks to IHJ for posting scans from the June issue of American Cinematographer, a fine magazine that reveals some curious facts about movies by looking at some of the technical aspects of their filming. I still remember the Zodiac article three years ago. In this issue, the attention falls, of course, on Prince of Persia, which presented its own set of problems for those behind the cameras.
The detailed discussion of effects and green screen is fascinating but I was particular interested to hear that one of the biggest challenges was caused by that hardly unexpected factor - desert sun. In order to solve problems of continuity, some of that desert blue sky is in fact not Moroccan but was pinched from Hertfordshire and the skies above Pinewood. I hate to think how long the cameraman had to wait.
Work out
In recent weeks we've seen (happily) quite a few pictures of Jake leaving the Tracy Anderson Method Studios in Studio City, LA. We have speculated if this is a sign of specialised training for a movie role. However, sister Maggie has also been seen leaving a Tracy Anderson studio this week (11 June), in New York City. So maybe it's a GyllenThing... Maggie left the towel look to Jake though. After all, he does do it well.
And finally...
It's the end of the era - Harry Potter finished umpteen years of filming this week, which gives me the perfect excuse to post this, our very own HP - courtesy of the very talented PG!:
Includes pictures from Disney and IHJ.

ooohhh my god wdw, that is the funniest, cutest pic ever....cant stop smiling...jake looks more like hp than hp does...hilarious..even though i know it wasnt intended..
am still loving the new look..it is proving much easier to read..
hope you had a good day
Do you love Harry Potter?
Thanks for the scans!
OK, I'm totally crashing in here to take credit for the Harry Potter picture! :D I have ALWAYS loved that picture and ALWAYS laughed at how well that damn scar fit on Jake's forehead. :) But I'm really sad HP is done filming, too. :( I barely remember a time now when the books, and then later movies, weren't part of my life...
Wonderful post, as always, WDW! I will now leave you all to your regularly scheduled commenting. ;)
Hello! I've been away watching Pirates 3 as I continue my support of all things Bruckheimery post PoP...
First off! PG, my friend! How are you doing?! I am so sorry I didn't realise that picture was yours! (I'm a bad Jake fan...) I was out searching for Jake and HP and it popped up. Jake was most definitely made to fit that lightning slash.... sigh. The movies were filmed near me and so we're going to miss it in Oxford. I've added the credit - very nice to see you - I still think of our walk across the WHOLE of LA! x
Hi Sabina! It is! I'm glad you're enjoying the new look still. I find it better too - Mr WDW keeps giving me 'helpful' advice too.
Hi Monica! I like the books more than the films but as I mentioned before they have such a close relationship with Oxford. I've seen them film a couple of scenes here, including a quidditch camp, and Emma Watson is a familiar face round here. So yes, I'll miss it :) Makes me feel old!
Zac Efron?!! For pity's sake, isn't he a bit 2007? or 2006? or..oh, I dunno, who cares?
That last photo is soooo cute!
TD
Hi TD! I know, is he still doing anything?
Almost all my friends love Harry Potter. I hate the books and the movies of Harry Potter!
WDW, thanks for scanning that John Seale article. In between the technobabble its really interesting. They all worked so hard on it.
Do you think there might still be a chance of a sequel?
TD
It's not to all tastes, Monica :) I did enjoy the books at the time but I'm more of a thriller book reader I'm afraid to say - that's when I get the chance - which is never! But I do like the Oxford connection :)
Hi TD! Posting at the same time :) I didn't scan it, IHJ did, but yeah it's a great article. I'm a big fan of this magazine which I used to buy when we had Borders... sigh.
I do think there could be a sequel because I think Bruckheimer et al will understand there's a huge market for it, even if it's not in the USA. I think that in the long haul they're going to make a lot of money from PoP - it's a shame that many commentators can't see beyond the confines of the US BO.
OMG our very own HP. !!
I wasn't a big fan before, but now, after seeing this pic, I absolutely changed my mind! hahaha
I'm really excited about what this GyllenThing is gonna bring to us on the future! (movie, movie!)
As you may know,Mexico won today, so everyone seems to be going crazy!
i hope you're enjoying the day/ night :)
Hi Linda! I was watching te match ( thought of you!) and cheered on Mexico all the way - what a good game!
Sorry, thanks to IHJ for scanning.
Congrats to Mexico.
TD
Aw, thank you for the credit!! You would not *believe* the things I've seen happen to my work since I've been away, so I'm just glad this one is still in tact at least (oh the internet!). :D But seriously, I really appreciate it and WOW has it been a long time!! :) I'm quite jealous that you were so close to the filming. It seems like all the cool things happen in Oxford... ;D
thank you! :) it was definitely a good game!
I'm impressed!
Love the new look, WDW. Can't wait to see the banner. :) Thanks so much for the very interesting article. And of course the wonderful IHJ! I love technical things and all kinds of behind the scenes info. I don't know if I will catch up with your PoP viewings, but I have seen it 4 times and like it more each time...
It was nice to see a blast from the past, Prophecy Girl. I haven't forgotten our wild ride through the streets of LA in search of the infamous Zodiac Premiere that sort of wasn't. :(
Hi TD!
It has been a long time PG, but I'm so glad these images are still about!
It was such a good game, Linda! Now you have to cheer along England today... oh the stress of being an England supporter.
Hi there Dani! I certainly do remember that race across LA - what a night - so funny! I do enjoy all the techie stuff too.
Jake's helped the Lakers to victory so a new post (sorry BBMISwear... :-()
WDW, do you know if the Brothers american import blu ray has deleted scenes? If so, is it worth it to see them? Have you seen any?
TD
Hi TD! I don't believe there are any additional extras on the Blu-ray and there aren't deleted scenes on the normal DVD. Amazon should be able to confirm all the extras.
Dani!! I KNOW, that ranks among one of the weirdest experiences in my history as a fan (and I have experienced many strange things). I can hardly believe that was 3 years ago now (!). And here we all still are! :D Crazy. But good to hear from you again!! It's been far, far too long... :)
