Keeping cool - the Jake Gyllenhaal guide to staying cool even when you're hot

Jake Gyllenhaal is hot and he's not all that's hot at the moment - as temperatures soar during this glorious summer (we even had a much-to-be-treasured heat warning in southern England today), we might want to think how to cool off a little. Back in the summer of 2004, publicity for The Day After Tomorrow took over the coldest room in Los Angeles. Jake and others had to leave the hot sun outside to endure ice cube seats. 'Do you think I'll need a sweater?' said Jake.

But, as we enjoy this hot summer, there are less extreme ways to cool down - such as taking a dip for instance.

Lounging by the pool or sea.

Or popping into your nearest desert oasis.

Maybe taking up surfing.

How about a nice cool shower?

Or a cool/hot drink.

You could be hosed down.

If you do have to exert yourself under the hot sun, then best to wear as little as possible.

You could go for the layers approach...

But maybe as little as possible works whatever your're doing.

To keep me cool today, I had the help of paradise martinis with (palate-cleansing) champagne chasers. It was a serious scientific experiment and, based on initial findings, I can report that they did indeed have a beneficial effect. But more studies are required.

Includes pictures from WDW and Excuses and Half Truths Rob.

Hi Monica! Sorry you had to work om such a lovely Saturday - that's not good :( I love that picture too - Zooey is just lovely.

Hi there P.Vic! Good to see you again. Jake is so sport - It's also fun to seem him learning to surf and falling off his board, just like the rest of us :D

Such a beautiful day here today. It was so nice to chill out with Jaking friends :)

Wet, wet, wet but hot, hot hot!

So good to see the pics from the movies we have just been discussing. It always hits me anew how 'tough guy' Jake looked in Jarhead.

And those posed wet pics are a hoot, from back in the day where Jake had to seek publicity obviously.

All in all a great selection of pics to start a winter Sunday WDW! It's always the morning when I pick up your posts, we are early on the international dateline.

How good that you are able to get together with other Jake fans. That sounds like a fun time that you had.

Cheers

Tui

You're right, Tui! It's really good to see some old pictures of Jake after our discussion and he is so HOT! Oh those old getting wet pics... I did a post on one of those a while ago and how when they were shooting it, Atticus ran off and they chased through the streets of LA for him! I always think of that when I see them those blue shirt getting wet pics!

I'm so lucky - Jake introduced me to my closest friends and we live near to each other and so can meet up very regularly. But it's always very special and a lot oof fun!

The time differences are so cool! It's just gone midnight here, it's Sunday morning where you are (and a different season) and the US is just getting going for the evening. I like that. I usually try and do posts earlier in the evening but it's not worked out like that lately. Hopefully, it'll settle down a bit next week.

Probably seeing "The girl who played with fire" wasn't the best way to stay cool today. There were no Jake links with this movie, unless you consider Sweden itself to be a link. However, it is likely that David Fincher will film an American version of the first (and probably second) film in this series. It's strong stuff, with a lot of hair-raising brutality.

Jake probably knows lots of ways to stay cool on a hot day. Does anyone remember the newspaper or magazine story that mentioned Peter's advice to Jake regarding attracting hummingbirds? I take this as an indication that Jake has nice gardens, where he can sit in the shade and let the cool winds blow across him.

Here in Argentina is getting colder a colder every day and now it's about 12 pm...

OK... Bye!

Oh! Saw Highway the other say... It was OK... He's always the good guy... *sighs* ^.^ And got a little emotional in that part where he goes to meet the girl... Been there... ='( ... more than once... =(((
And that name! Loved it! Pilot! LOL.

Morning everyone! What with the British Grand Prix, the Tour de France and a certain little football match later on, it's gonna be quite a day.

Hello Linda :D

Hi Paul, I remember that :) I read that ladnscapers had been hired to do Jake's garden and so you can just imagine how beautiful must be - and definitely attractive to humming birds :) I loved seeing humming birds just while walking round LA. Reminds me of a time I was in a pub garden in the country here one very hot evening and suddentl I saw a hummingbird moth feeding off the flowers by me. Amazing!

I'm not sure I understand the Hollywood trend of having to remake and adapt European movies, but I'm always interested in anything David Fincher does.

Hi Copycat! Glad to hear you saw Highway - thanks for telling us what you thought. There are some powerful scenes in it and Pilot is (how would Ruby put it?) Adorable :D

So glad you liked it Lena and that you can stand the heat!

Have a lovely Sunday everyone!

Wonderful pictures...hot hot hot! (Oh, was this suppose to cool us down? Didn't work).

I'm jealous of the pretty cocktails photo...why couldn't I be there to drink them with you crazies? (Oh, that's right, I don't live on the same continent as you people). *sigh*

Well it's extremely hot here (still) which is very close to where Jake is (still) so I'll assume he's been swimming a lot to keep cool (when he's not at the Farmer's Market that is)!

Have a great Sunday all! :-)

Funny you should do a post on Jake and hotness today. Last night, I saw an add on a TV station about the movies they`ll show this summer and one of them is BBM. I'm pretty sure it will be a first on english canadian public TV and it's about time, it was on french canadian public TV 2 years ago. Anyway, they tell us there`s gonna be romance then show a couple of seconds of some of the movies, then they say there`s gonna be action and show some more short clips and so on. When they say there will be action, one of the clips is of Jack Twist riding a bull and when they say they`ll show us the HOTTEST stars, guess who's the very first clip, before Matt Damon even? Jake as Jack draped over his car checking out Ennis in BBM's first scene! Woohoo! Now that's hotness! They also show clips of Laureen and Jack making out in Laureen's car and Ennis shooting the elk. Makes me want to watch BBM again. :)

If you really treasure heat warnings, you should have been here this week. :DDD We had warnings 5 days in a row and temperatures went up to 110 F with the humidex factor. The city had to open heat relief centers for those without AC. (Geez, I can't seem to stop putting an H at the end of "heat", it's like a reflex :) )

I loved your post (even if it did nothing to cool me down whatsoever), it contains one of my favorite pics (the 7th, it's just about perfect) and the abolute worst Jake pic ever in my opinion, the 14th. OMG, he's barely recognisable. Even Ukelele Jake is better than this. :D

Hi BBMISwear :-) I bet Jake is keeping nice and cool whie staying very hot indeed :D Would have loved to have shared those shiney cocktails with you.

Blimey, that's hot, Olympia! We're due for a few cooller and wetter days now, which is a shame. Mind you, there's not a lot of green left where I am, so the rain might be a good thing... or not.

That's good news about BBM getting a showing there - and I love how they are giving it a Jake push!

I absooutely hate that picture of Jake - I wonder what he thinks of it! It is indeed a rival for Ukelele Jake :D

Been riveted to the TdeFrance - poor Lance has had a terrible day. Enjoyed the Grand Prix too - always reminds me though of the time I unwittingly got caught in the traffic for that event. Not something I'd ever repeat...

Hope everyone's having a good day! I'm getting the nibbles ready for the footie!
