They think it's all over... A win for Spain and octopuses

The fact that there is a short post this evening has absolutely nothing to do with me but a lot to do with me having to spend a very long 120 minutes or so hurling insults and handy tips at a bunch of blokes kicking a ball around and not into a net. And so the World Cup ends meaning that normal Jaking schedules can be resumed. To mark the event, and to congratulate champions Spain, here are pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal and soccer fanatic Peter Sarsgaard at a Jarhead photocall in Madrid on 15 December 2005.

Peter has said that he learned his English accent for An Education by mimicking English football commentators, which, judging by his An Education accent and the accents of English football commentators, may have been a bit of a mistake. I'd stick with English tennis commentators next time, Peter.

The day before this photocall, Jake and Peter engaged in some repartee.

I want to congratulate Spain but I also don't want to forget the 100% record of Paul the Pyschic Octopus who successfully predicted the result of all the German World Cup games and the final. Much has been made in Britain of how the octopus is British (born in Weymouth), as if this was clearly a factor in Psychic Paul's premonition prowess - which it obviously was. And so here is an octopus tribute.

Pictures thanks to IHJ.

Loved revisting the old Jake and Peter Jarhead pics and video - they are so entertaining together! Thanks for that WDW!

I didn't follow much of the World Cup over here...only bits and pieces...I think I was burnt out from the NBA finals still! It sure was long. Glad you all survived it!

I would love to see one tiny little noninvasive photo.

*fights the impatience*

I saw this video with the octopus just that time it was released. I remember I did not like!
And I still do not like! hahaha
I thought it was just a phase in a bad mood!
Always good to see Peter!

Happy for the victory of Spain! Congratulations Spain!

Congratulations Spain!

Watched Jarhead again last night. A movie is different each time you see it.

Jake and Peter are charming together.

Cute Sesame Street octopus tie-in.

Cheers

Tui

The Octopus bit was for Sesame Street aimed at pre-school and maybe kindergarden and 1st grade children. It's suppose to be silly and something I'm sure the audience it was aiming for giggled through it.
It would be a natural thing for Jake to do as he's so good with children and as Natalie said "Children love him".

Thanks Tui and Monica for your congratulations for Spain.

I watched the game in Berlin. And it was a good experience!. It is really hot here! 36-38 ÂșC. Like if I was in Madrid. Incredible! And your last post has risen my temperature even more! ;-D

I'll have to revisit the last two posts later as I'm busy.

Hi 13:01 :) I totally agree - I loved it. I bet Ramona did too :D Totally does what it's supposed to do - I'd love to see Jake do more kiddie stuff.

Hi Eureka :D That sounds like a grand occasion. Sorry Jake raised the temperature even higher!

Sorry WDW!
I just realized now this post was a tribute to Spain winning the World Cup.
THANKS!

I'm back in Madrid now.

So, he was in Madrid in 2005? I didn't know this! Of course I wasn't yet his fan. But what a great chance I missed to have gone to see him live!

Let me know if he ever comes back. ;-D
