[Updated] Jake Gyllenhaal is back and his beard is coming along a treat!

Jake Gyllenhaal is back! And he's demonstrating enviable determination and zeal in his effort to see how long his beard can grow before he gives in and shaves it off to reveal more of that beautiful face. As a foodie, a beard does offer additional storage facilities, of course. It may also catch rain water in times of drought. Jake was in LA yesterday escorting a rather lovely young lady called Ramona to a birthday party. It was my sister's birthday yesterday so I think it's a bit off that Jake and Ramona got an invite and I didn't. Many thanks to IHJ for the very welcome pictures! There are lots more there. Good to see you Jake!

Update: Thanks to Monica for the ID of the gent in the pictures with Jake - he is Marc Silverstein, Busy Phillips's husband. Their daughter celebrated her birthday on the 13 August and, judging by when Busy posted a photo of the magnificent cake, the party was yesterday. I wonder what's in the middle of the cake - I would've throught a globular cake is very difficult to slice.

As a note, the Chilmark road race took place last Saturday and, while Jake and Chris were absentees this year, I'm very pleased to report that Dou Liman ran and finished 75th in this group! Good going, Doug.

Yay, Jake is back. :D I think he looks great. And lucky little Ramona, her uncle and parents are amazing in my opinion. :)

Woohoo! Wonderful to see you again, Jake. :) And lovely Ramona is growing into a very pretty lady by the looks of it. Already obsessed with her telephone - uncle might have set the bar with all that texting of his. *grin*

Oh by the way, I went to see The Sorcerer's Apprentice this weekend. It was good fun to see Alfred Molina and Toby Kebbel in another movie. :-) Somehow I was constantly expecting that that blue magic stone of his would produce ostriches...

Hi there JF! So good to see him. Missed Jake soooo badly and it's very nice of him to turn up on my first day back at work :D Totally agree about Ramona's parents too :)

Hey Lady Ekster! I love the pic of Ramona with the phone - she'll be wteeting before you know it.

I really want to see the Sorcerer's Apprentice. I'd have gone yesterday if the car was in working order. Hopefully later in the week or on Saturday. I do think Toby is rather lovely :D

Yipee Jake is back:)

I've been away for the weekend celebrating my last days as a single woman so missed the last few days of posts. Just catching up now.

I have overdosed on the LAOD trailer since I put it on my iPod. I love the on screen chemistry between Jake and Anne. Can't wait to see this one.

Hi Carol! I hope you had a lot of fun!! I've been thinking of you :) I must put the trailer on my iPod Touch...

YAY - finally he's back ... hopefully not for a one-off again ...

Jake be nice and stay a couple of days in the daylight to make us happy "pretty please" :)

I was not missing see pictures of jake. I was enjoying this period, but it's good to see him, especially with Ramona.
The man in the photo with him is Marc Silverstein, the husband of Busy Phillips. This weekend was the anniversary of daughter of Marc and Busy.

Yesterday was my birthday.

This has made my day - so good to see Jake being a wonderful uncle although I'm certainly still not a fan of the facial hair!!

I'm off to see Sorcerer's Apprentice on weds and can't wait. Trailer for LAOD has really made me eager to see the film but it's depressing how long it is to wait, roll on the 13th Sept for PoP so it can keep me distracted for a bit...

Hey Sasha! ooh yes, totally agree - Jake has brightened my day hugely!

Hope you had a good birthday Monica, possibly the only fan who was enjoying this long period of not seeing him :) Thanks for the ID of Mr Phillips - so it sounds like that's where the party was. Hopefully lots of trifle.

Hi there Claire! He is a very hairy uncle, that's for sure :) I know, the wait is going to be awful - after Christmas! The PoP DVD is gonna have to work its wonders.

Hope everyone's having a good day - it's a beautiful day here.

Updated the post with the ID of the gent (thanks to Monica) and a link to a picture of the birthday cake from yesterday :D Beware blue icing....

Very sweet! Happy Birthday, Ramona! :)

Hi Bertie! Lovely, eh? Actually, it's not Ramona's birthday but Busy Phillips' daughter :)

Hello, WDW! I don't know what made me happier: the new pics or your saying that you too miss Jake sooooo badly. Cause it happens to me too! Doesn't this man know we're Gyllenhalics -instead of Gyllenlovers- because he's highly addictive? The LAOD trailer lef me wanting for more and more and more! Thankfully, you have new pics today. And I'm starting to like the heavy facial hair. Yep, I noticed when I check the paparazzi video. I caught myself thinking "He's just so yummy". I've no preferences anymore. Just give me some Jake as often as possible and I'll be alright.

Fairly early for me here. Non working day, not too cold. Nice to start the week! Thanks for the post. You never rest, WDW. :-D

Ooops, sorry, I just noticed that it was Busy's daughter's birthday! *blush* :)

Happy Birthday to Monica too!

Bertie

You're most definitely not alone Alejandra! I feel just like you, and you put it absolutely perfectly :)

There are just so many birthdays, Bertie! I feel like I should wish my little sister happy birthday again :)

Happy birthday Sis!

Jake is the type of person who gets that 5 o'clock shadow. So now that he is taking a hiatus for a while he figures why shave. I really haven't found too many men that really look good in beards. I like Jake either clean shaven (like he was in BBM and is in LAOD) or has some scruffy stuff but not a full beard like here. But hey he is the one who has to care for it and pick food off it.

I think the pics with him and Ramona are adorable. It's nice to see Uncle Jake spending time with his niece.

I wonder what his next project is going to be?

thanks WDW

I just said it on PGs: His actual facial hair "treatment" looks like my fathers - that is so not!!! sexy to me. I'd rather have it shortly trimmed to completely shaved.
But Jake doesn't asks me - obviously. ;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sweetpea :) Personally, my favourite is that little bit of scruss, like at Cannes or in London and Moscow for PoP. He looked so beautiful. But really I don't want to complain as it's just so flippin good to see him!

Hi there Sasha :) Mr WDW is beardy too but he can't bear it getting that long so out comes the strimmer. I could lend it to Jake...

They have GOT to stop holding those Abe Lincoln Look-Alike contests! The prize can't be all THAT great....

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hello Gyllenhaalisgr8 :D Chuckle.... I know, he's getting to look an awful lot like George V as well!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

PS That's quite a pic you have there!

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh and awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! This post gives me such conflicting emotions. :D

I wish I could not care about the beard but I do, it's ruining that perfect hair. *sigh*

Love to see him with Ramona, she's getting so big! And she still looks like Peter, what a cutie. :)

Happy birthday Monica!

WDW, glad you made it home safely, if not easily. :)

Five o'clock shadow looks good on him. I think that may be my favorite look, like he had as Jack Twist. :)

Sasha said...

Haha pls do so WDW

I'd say this is long enough for me

Don't get me wrong. When we have plenty of Jake everywhere, I'll get as picky as I can. But the last few weeks have been so hard, I really have no complains. Old pics are nice but... there's nothing like fresh Jake pics so... Keep them coming, I say. ;-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Olympia! Ahhh, conflicted face fuzz feelings... Ramona is really growing fast. I love how Jake is doing the babysitting :D

Hi there 17:09 :) Oh he does look so good like that, although in most of BBM he was clean shaven, wasn't he? Except when he had that nasty tache!

Will do Sasha :D It's still a bit long for me in that pic :)

Absolutelym Alejandra! We must be happy with what we have :D Maybe we'll get a flood of new pics and then in a few days time we can afford to give Jake our constructive criticism :D

Alejandra said...

*pointing upwards* That's right! Cause that's what it will be: "constructive criticism". Also known as "in my humble opinion...". :-D

Carol said...

I missed you Jake but not the beard. I like the five o'clock shadow look but this is just taking it too far for me. Hopefully we will get to see the gorgeous face underneath that beard again soon:)

Ramona is really cute and she looks so like her Daddy.

The birthday cake for Busy's daughter was great. What is it of. I was trying to figure it out while looking at the pic.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I hope Jake has his notebook and pen ready, Alejandra, for all our helpful suggestions :D

It's an amazing cake, Carol! I was wondering if it was from James and the Giant Peach but no. It looks like something out of Mario! But how on earth do you cut a cake like that??

Carol said...

I thought of James and the Giant Peach aswell but I think you're right it's not that one. A cake like that is too nice to be cut!!!!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I wonder what the bits are sticking out of the side?

winterbird said...

Was it the international beard day?

glad to see Jake out and about with a pretty lady that we approve!! :)

Carol said...

I think they are chocolate sticks like those Cadbury finger biscuits:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Cadbury Flakes :D But I wonder what they represent, a ladder?

This is a Jake and Cake blog this evening :D Jake would understand.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Winterbird! You snuck in there :D so whaddya think of the cake?

Carol said...

I think they are meant to be a stairs or a ladder.

This is such a diverse post tonight.... from Jake's facial hair to Busy Phillip's daughters birthday cake. It's putting a smile on my face:)

Ruby said...

It's James and the Giant Peach. Those chocolately things are the ladder on the outside that leads to the entrance and the blue underneath it is water.

Not lovin' the beard at all!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Me too Carol! It's also making me crave cake (and Jake) :D

Hey Rubes! So I was right first time? I must trust my caking instinct. It was the step things that made me think it wasn't as I couldn't remember them in the story. The blue looks deadly :D

Yes, it is an awful lot of beard....

YAY! Gorgeous Jake is Back :D
aww and ramona is sooo cute!
it's so good to know what he's up to , and I just can't wait for LAOD :)
hope you had a great monday!

LadyEkster said...

I will most probably be the last person to have noticed it, but... wow. Have you seen the totally different LAOD trailer that's up at its IMDB page (http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2329347609/)?

I'm... I'm... I don't even know what to write anymore. I'll probably best just *swoon* *drool* *thud*

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Linda! Great to see him:D

OMG Lady Ekster - you are amazing. What a fantastic find - an incredible trailer. Far superior to the first. New post with thanks to you!
