The Race Across the Sky - Jake Gyllenhaal in Leadville with Peter Sarsgaard and Chris McDougall, author of Born to Run

Today the Leadville Trail 100 Mile Run took place across the forest trails and mountain roads of the Rockie. As if running 50 miles isn't enough, in this Race Across the Sky, you then turn round and run it all back again. Jake Gyllenhaal has been in Colorado to watch the race (he isn't listed in the runners) along with Peter Sarsgaard and he has been leaving a trail of his own. Competitor Jerell was lucky enough to get a picture to share on Twitter. That's either Jake Gyllenhaal on the left or Grizzly Adams.

And now we are also able to identify further people from the photo yesterday (shown below). In addition to the always unmistakable back of Jake, that is a very slim Peter Sarsgaard on the right, disguised by a Fedora. The hairless chap looks like Christopher McDougall, the author of Born to Run, which, according to the rumours coming out of Leadville, is the reason for Jake's visit.

Jake was also seen at an aid station (looking 'very cute and taller than I expected); in his natural habitat of a coffee shop; and in an outdoor clothing and equipment store with Peter last night, where they bought 'some little camping stuff'. In fact, they liked the Sawatch Backcountry shop so much they went back again today.

I think this is most definitely a developing story. Congratulations to all the runners - what an incredible endurance event.

Hi! :)
good to see Jake again!
he looks amazing in that pic!
have a great sunday :)
oh and by the way if you have twitter and wanna follow me just do it @LindaGalvan , and I'll obviously follow you back :)(I'm bored) haha

Unless Chris McDougall is kneeling down, that's not him. McDougall is 6'4" tall. He'd be towering over everyone in that photo.

Hi Linda! Hope you're having a good Sunday too :D

Hi there Sam! In that case, he has a twin :D Looks so much like him.

Apart from the baldpate, not so much.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sam :) Well, I'm certainly the first to admit that I have trouble telling anyone apart. To the uninformed, they do look similar :) I've amended the post. Thanks for the height info. He could be in a dip ;-)

Jake shave that thing off or least trim it. But on a positive side, he looks more bulked up.

Does anyone see pictures?? I only see facebook account and no pics of Jake :(((( (maybe I bc I have no facebook) *pity*

Maybe then it's David Kirsch, bc David isn't the tallest I think ;) WDW

I love his physique, JakeFan :D Maybe Jake thinks the beard is a good disguise... but, as it's not working, he can lose it now. Yes you can, Jake *)

Hi Sasha - well, there are pictures in the post. The other links are to Facebook sightings of Jake by these lucky. There aren't any pictures there. We're lucky to have the ones we do have.

I think the beard is hot! Leave it, Jake!

Loving this blog, btw!

Love,

Hello BR and welcome! Very good to see you and thanks for commenting - and standing up for Beardy Jake! Thank you - and do come back :)

I've done a review on Salt and action heroes at MB if anyone's interested :)

"I think the beard is hot! Leave it, Jake!"

That's it, Jake is growing the beard so he doesn't have to wear scarves when Fall hits. Personally I love his scarves and fedoras, its so old Hollywood.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Yeah, Jake Fan, that'll be it! It's a sensible coller weather accessory :D

He really masters the art of disguise, doesn't he? I wouldn't have recognized him with that professional-cap-shade over his face and that huuuuge beard.

Of course, in the light of a possible running movie it's no question that the beard will have to go for the good cause of aerodynamics... right? Please, Jake?

Alejandra said...

Gotta be honest: still not minding the beard here. Love that he's all smiley again. Makes aaaalll the difference.

Been ill, WDW? Hope you feel better soon. xo

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I've been reading a fair few pages back for the last couple of days, and pretending very hard that I'm not squealing at practically every post.

WDW, you're in the UK, right? I just saw your Cornwall pics - down my end of the country! :)

Just catching up on the last few days posts now. Wasn't been able to get online since Thursday:(

Good to see Jake and Peter. I'm becoming more accepting of the beard the more I see it but I still kinda wish you would have an appointment with the razor again soon Jake:)

Love the interesting potential new project on the horizon. Looking forward to seeing how this one may develop.....

Aerodynamics is a very good point, Lady Ekster! Hopefuy Jake is listening :D

Hi Alejandra! Smiley Jake is definitely what matters. Thanks! I've been unwell for a few days with a sinus thing so been in bed all day today.

Yeay BR! You live in a beautiful place. I live in Oxford. I'm most definitely missing Cornwall. Big open skies and seas. But I have a chance to go back again soon.

Thank you for all these great updates WDW! I've been so busy in both work and home life so my time on line (for fun things) has been close to zero lately - how great to come here and catch up on the last 3 or 4 posts! And what great new stuff going on - can't wait to hear more about all this and a note to the wonderful people of Colorado: Pictures Please!! Beard or no beard I just have a thing for pictures.

Until next time... :-)

AHH! I wish I had known he was going to be in Colorado for the Leadville race. I live in CO! *sigh* I would have loved to see him in person. Not sure I would have approached him, but I would have been happy to just see him in real life! I love this blog! Thank you, WDW! :)

I know this is way off base, but I have nowhere else to express my Jake obsession except here. I came across to clip of an old movie, "Splendor in the Grass" and immediately pictured Jake and Rachel McAdams as the two leads. Since HW is having a hard time of ceating anything original, I can see this classic next in the reboot mania.

Wow, he looks great! :) This is a fascinating story as well, I want to read the book. Sounds like a great project.

Morning everyone :)

Thanks, Carol! Three weeks! Wow - I'm glad we can provide some Jakescapism :)

My pleasure, Sweetpea :D

Hi there Tiffany! Those cases of so close and yet so far are really hard and exciting at the same time. I feel just like that when he's been in London. But yes, there's no need to approach him or say hello, it's just seeing him. I hope one day you do :) I'm so glad you love the blog! Thanks for telling :D

Hi there Jake Fan! Ooh no worries for going off-base. It's all good. I love that film. I would also really like to see Jake and Rachel in a movie together - they would most definitely have incredible chemistry. I'd like to see Jake in another great love story.

Morning Bertie! I'd heard a bit about this book but now I've some more about it I'd really like to read the whole thing. It sounds like such a good project, if it is indeed on the way. Maybe in a month or two we'll know for sure what Jake is working up to :D

Have a good day everyone! I'm ill in bed so any grapes are most welcome :)

Hello WDW, hope you are feeling better soon.

Exciting to see the new Jake pictures, and a new project in the offing, and maybe with Peter as well.

I'm glad just to see a photo of Jake, to see a smiling Jake, beard or no beard.

Cheers

Tui

Thanks, Tui! And yes, it's so good to get a picture :) It's exciting to think where all this could lead.

Indeed, Lena!

WDW, you're welcome! I do enjoy this blog so much. It's a nice way to see what the Jakester is up to. I hope I see him in person someday, too! I'm a nurse, so I'm hoping to move to LA in the next couple of years because I have some friends there. So, perhaps I'd have some Jake sightings then :)

Tiffany said...

Oh, WDW, I've been meaning to tell you that I've loved the pictures you've posted of your vacation :) Beautiful! I love love love traveling, so you've inspired me to see the places you've been to! I just returned from Ireland and I thought it was absolutely beautiful.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks so much, Tiffany :) And that's great you could be moving to LA - I absolutely love the place. Of course, when I'm there, I normally miss Jake by an hour or too! I'm glad you enjoyed Ireland - what a beautiful place - and if you liked it there you'll certainly like Cornwall. It makes me feel really happy that you liked the pictures :) Thank you!

Tiffany said...

I loved the pictures, WDW! Loved them! Based on the pictures alone, I'm sure I'd love Cornwall!

I've only been to LA once, and we really only drove around. We stopped at Santa Monica Pier, which was lovely! I think living in LA would be difficult, but really exciting, too. :)

Jake is Peter's brother-in-law = why you see them together.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Er Anon - it's not often a comment leaves me speechless - you managed it with this one. I've gotta say, that is not news!!!!

The hairless chap is Barefoot Ted McDonald who is in the book Born to Run.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I know that now, Anon - see the later post :)
