Dine and sing along with Jake Gyllenhaal - and hunt for hidden Mickeys

Now that Jake Gyllenhaal has left his cave and is beginning to reintegrate himself back into society, there are signs that he is enjoying a well-earned reprieve from Rabbit, Berry and Bat Pie and the juice of squeezed nettles. This evening, he has been seen at the Gemma Restaurant at The Bowery Hotel in NYC. Unfortunately, the tweeter preferred to focus on her salad rather than on Jake but it is good to know that Jake is out and about and photographable. She has also just posted 'And yes, he's cute girls' - not 'And yes, he's hairy girls' - good sign.

Update: The lucky tweeter Kelley has answered me emphatically that the beard is as thick as ever. New Yorkers - don't go out without your cameras and your shears!

It's been quite a while since one of my Dining with the Gyllenhaals features but here is a look at the Gemma website and the menu of delicious Italian treats. As for the drinks, I think I'll have a Vespa. Can I just say, though, how much I like a restaurant that lists PG Tips on the menu?

Hidden Mickeys

Gyllenhaalisgr8 made me think today when she posted a picture on Twitter which may or may not be a Hidden Mickey. Disney is know for hiding these little blighters across its buildings and products and, to be honest, most of them you're not going to spot. But this does look like it could be it.

The Disney forums hinted at something secret hidden in the trailer for Prince of Persia, a code maybe. Someone even thought he saw Mickey in a blood splatter. One site even identified this as The Hidden Mickey but I have to say this could just as easily be a Hidden Lancaster Bomber.

And the results are in!

With thanks to all of you who voted in the What Next For Jake poll, the results are now in and the resounding winner is SciFi!Musical!

Judging by the results, it would ideally be a dramatic musical with a historical bent. It will definitely have no film noir elements and, even though we love Jake as one particular cowboy, we're not keen to see him heading west again - or back onto a battlefield. Detailed analysis of the results will follow when I've had chance to get my flip chart and laser pointer dusted off. But, in the meantime, you will find this post stardusted with musical gems straight from the tonsils of our talented Jake.

Includes pictures from Gyllenhaalisgr8, IHJ and links.

Awww Jake, Jake ... if you like Italian food so much why don't you just come to Italy, more precisely, to ME ... and I might finally learn to cook something more elaborate than pasta with tomato sauce ;)
I've also somehow learnt to bake chocolate chips muffins, so you wouldn't miss home. I'm thoughtful, aren't I? *__*

And oh the many joys of hearing Jake sing and seeing him dance! Priceless.
I so hope we will have a Jake & Ellen show veeery soon, always a fav of mine :)

Have you seen that Kelley replied to your question? > 'RT @Wetdarkandwild: @kelleylmoore Is his beard still thick? - YES'
Meh. Biiig meh (although I can imagine 2 people around here jumping with joy ;-)).

Maybe I've had a few too many drinks tonight, but I really don't see a Mickey in Dastan's coat...

Hello HVV! That sounds like an excellent idea! Jake would be so great doing a touring cookery show. Very thoughtful with the muffins :D

Love Jake & Ellen. My fave clip though was the Rufus one! What an amazing day that was!

Hey Lady Ekster! I just saw! OMG this is not good - but yes there are at least 2 who'll be happy for the continued preservation of the beard pet. I've had a few too and I can't see any Mickey in that coat! (Glad it's not just me :D)

This is SMASHING!! LOL here's a better and clearer version of the stars singing to Ellen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXMPP0qhEnk

And the mickey in Dastan's coat? I found it, it's hanging upside by his armpit and the one below it is sideways...I think :D

WDW, you should win an award for your journalistic skills!! Seriously, you went and asked the lucky girl who saw Jake in NYC today if the beard was still there (cause, really, the fact that she only said "cute" left many of us wondering wether...) and now WE KNOW... that the beard is still there... (Do I hear sobbing?)

Good thing is that, yes, he's rejoining society. You'll be more than welcome back, Jake! :-D

I'm glad so many of us like the idea of Jake in a musical. It's a difficult genre. But if the right project comes along (and Jake is very, very good at judging projects), it will be unforgettable, I'm sure... For the record, I would love to see him in a film noir type of thing.

Hmmm, off to fantasize about all of the above now! ;-)

I'm having a laugh reading all the beard comments on the previous post. If anyone should ever take my beard/hair/whatever complaints seriously: they are to be taken with a BIG pinch of salt. Jake has so much personality that it would shine through any amount of face fuzz. ;-) That said, I'm still yearning for a clear view on that perfect jaw line and neck.

Now if only I could get that Sesame tune out of my head before I go to Dreamland...

Hope this is ok to post from the Hollywood Reporter Online, although it doesn't say how many units were sold:

Thats dvd sales, blue ray and dvd rentals in America.

Hi WDW and y'all,

@HisVelvetVoice and @WDW:
Cooking, travelling, Jake.
Yes, yes,... and hell yes.
When I saw a desperate, weeping even, Jamie Oliver, work his arse off, to try and help the people of Huntington (West Virginia) cook up healthy, wholesome, fresh food; I just thought: the poor bloke needs help - bring on the Jakester.
Jake is American so he understands the culture much better, he's funny, he's fearless, he wants to help people, he's driven, he's a shameless flirt, he loves kids ... and apparently he can really cook too (I still haven't seen proof of that though...) Jake would have these argumentative school dinner ladies tightly wrapped around his little finger in no time. No more buts or ifs or whatever nonsense, just "Yes Chef!".
I can really imagine J&J together as the unbeatable, inspirational, passionate foodie team: "Jamie & Jake" - welcome to the Food Revolution!
I recall Jake having mentioned somewhere he's involved with "Feed", something to do with school lunches, but I'm not sure what they're about.
Someone should get his people to call his people and get this show on the road!
Oh, and if you haven't yet, watch Food Inc.

On the topic of the poll results: historical, dramatic musical? Eh, suggestions anyone? Just as long as it doesn't involve tights or sandals, please. That would make it a farce.

Whoopie, the fuzzy pet is still on the face. Good! Sorry team "shave it". ;-)

cheers,
lemniscate

Pierrot? does anyone know what that means?J & J is so romantic for lame reasons ofcourse....oh well....i am weird & i love weird combos w/ lots of <3. Should i change my name to Pierrot? :-)

Hi All

Boo hoo on the facial hair!! Glad he's back in an urban area, bring on the photos (I will accept fuzzy faced as I've missed him). I voted for a musical so yipee - glad to see no-one voted for horror as that's one genre I don't like!

Watched Bubble Boy last night and really laughed until I nearly cried. Loved the hair!! Can't believe its only now that I've seen it - thanks WDW for pointing me towards it :))

I'm busy with fresher's week which is why I haven't posted for a while - it's very good, a bit overwhelming but I'm really looking forward to getting down to work.

@Jaya

Hey Jaya,

I think I might need to apologise about my silly "Pierrot" comment yesterday. In retrospect, it's a bit mean, maybe. I did not intend to mock you. I'm sorry. Like WDW said yesterday, welcome!
I guess, the way you expressed yourself... and hoping not to get any clown comments etc., indicated your newness, your naïveté.
Your comments simply triggered my "Pierrotism" gauge.
I was trying to be clever. Ha! TOTAL FAIL! ;-) Mea Culpa!
Of course you don't need to change your name?
Here's some more info about Pierrot and the Commedia dell'Arte, if you're interested:

Welcome!

I must admit, your comments totally puzzle me.
J&J romantic, lame? Eh, unintended.
You're weird alright, but I like it. ;-)

@Jaya

Oops! My previous comment seems to have been zapped in cyberspace. A shorter version then.
A Pierrot is a sad clown, a popular character of the Commedia del'Arte. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierrot
No need to change your name, and I was just trying to be clever yesterday (FAIL) not intending to call you naive. Welcome!

Good morning everyone! Absolutely chucking it down out there...

Morning Georgie! It is :D I'm still having trouble seeing these Mickeys. Maybe you need sunshine to spot them...

Thanks, Alejandra! I'm nothing if not cheeky :D Now all we need is the right type of musical...

Totally agree, Lady Ekster! I'm missing Jake so much, I'm not too fussy at all :D That bloody tune - sorry about that.... I purposefully didn't play tht one for that very reason, but just talking about it brings it back.

My pleasure, Jaya! Pierrot is the French weeping clown. Weird with love is a good combination and however much I tease Jake and us, it's all with affection and a lot of love :) I'm hard pressed to see the romance of J&J though! :D Don't change your name - pierrots scare me!

ooh thanks 00:37! The sales figures look great - doubled the sales of the second best selling DVD. Really good.

OMG BR, that is so funny!

Hi there Lemniscate! Lovin the idea of the 'J&J get people eating right' team. I have to admit that when I went to Jamie Oliver's restaurant in Oxford I bought the t-shirt because it had a big J down the middle! ooh the idea of Jake taking on dinner ladies. In this country, Jamie had to battle Turkey Twizzlers - thank heavens I'm a veggie.

Hmmmm, historical musical. I'd love to see Jake in something Tudory, but I'm hard pushed to see how that could work as a musical - how about a musical based on The Armada1 And Jake could be a gallant captain...

Morning Claire! A busy time for sure. Soon the students will be back in Oxford and the rest of us will have to find other pubs to go to! Oxford's population must double during termtimes. Fewer tourists then, though...

Horror would not have been good. I couldn't watch Peter in Orphan - it wsa just too frigtening. I want a Jake film that I don't have to hide from! I am so glad you enjoyed Bubble Boy so much, I thought you might. It's just hysterical.

4 3???

Waves again at Lemniscate!!

So great to see you all - a very nice way to start this otherwise gloomy day :)

u r crazier than a cuckoo tree but i am too...oh well....
oh 4 3? i have no idea what that means but that's how old i am ;-)i heard that pierrots are capable of great love despite their tendency to cry sometimes....urban rumor....sometimes they are afraid to mess up but when the right hand holds them they can do anything...they are extremely loyal too once they choose someone...

lemniscate said...

Hey WDW and y'all,

Wish I could send you some sunshine from the other side of the world hon'... We're expected to hit 30° C this weekend. Summer is here.

Yep, I want to see him tackle those dinner ladies. Smooth-talking them into submission, but if all else fails... chasing them around the kitchen with a rolling pin. Hehehe...

Hmm, Armada 1, interesting. But wouldn't that involve tights? You want tights don't you... Oh djeez! ;-)

Have a great day!

Oh my... I started something with that Pierrot comment yesterday. Sorry! So off topic.
Well, Anonymous, know people with Pierrot characteristics. You definitely have a point. I think I'm drawn to their naïveté and tristesse. Gets me all nurturing and clucky. Or, perhaps it's because I used to own a Pierrot doll when I was a little girl? Dunno.

That is a very nice picture you have painted before my eyes. *big grin*

Could 4-3 be the current pro-con Beard ratio? ;-)

As for Jake in tights in a musical: after all those Spandex Jake posts I think we can handle that. ;-) It'd be hysterical if they made another Men In Tights version of something. 'We're men, we're men in tiihiights'. :-D

Meh the beard.
Musical? Can he really sing? I can't bring myself to watch these yet. People seem to say people can sing and then it turns out its just sort of X-factor, or 'a sweet voice', or sing-along-with-my-endless-guitar-strumming singing. Hmmmm.
BTW, I bought 'W' magazine. It had GeorgeClooney in it instead of LAOD. Sigh.
I'm off to read some B7 fic (if I can find it).

Hello! Lovin' the comments which I'm digesting while I eat an enrmous piece of pineapple cake. I wasn't going to eat it and then I read an interview with Julia Roberts' from last night's premiere about how she ate for women during the making of Eat, Pray, Love. So I did.

er... thanks 09:51! :D

Please send us some of that heat Lemniscate! I'm not good in the cold! I don't think I want tights so much as breeches and big boots :D

Spandex Jake would be such a good thing, Lady Ekster! ooh is it your birthday today?? I am really bad with dates...

Hey TD! I reckon he can sing, he certainly thinks he can sing... :D We need to find out. I think you want next month's W - we get it a month late here. At least I hope...

I'm one of the few that loves the beard! I LOVE it. It would be interesting to see Jakey-Poo in a musical, more specifically tights. :D hehehe. This blog makes me laugh so much. So much fun.

Just read another Twitter sighting in NYC. Beard update: it's still there... You Pro Beard guys must be having the time of your life! *grin* I'm starting to feel both excited and terrified about that 2nd October...

ooh is it your birthday today?? I am really bad with dates...
No no, it was yesterday, the 22nd. Don't worry, you got it right in the previous comment thread. ;-)

Hey, first time ever I get a Dutch word: 'spons'. :-D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thank you so much Tiffany! The idea of a beardy Jake in tights.... hmmm....

I hope you had a lovely day, Lady Ekster! Not only am I bad with dates, I also have a terrible memory *rolls eyes*. Ooh another sighting - thanks! Yes, the beard doth grow more and more with the passing of every single day. By 2 October he'll be able to sweep the floor with it!

AH it's fall, the leaves are slowly changing, it's getting cooler (well not where I am but somewhere) and I think it's also the season for all shaggy beards to get shaved (I thought I saw something about it in my calendar. I've got everything I need for Jake, Shaving cream and razor and since there is no mirror in sight I shall have to do the honors myself. I know it's torture but I am willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to rid Jake's face of that beard! :D)

You know you really can't sing well with a beard on, it weighs your face down. SO since, according to the polls, he is going to be in a musical the beard MUST GO! that is the way show biz runs.

thanks for the singing Jake show today, WDW

Hi WDW, Jake has not yet shave that Holy Beard of his? Do you think he will shave it for the 2 Oct talkshow? I pray to the God that he will..haha..And the pic at the previous post with Jake and Brad Pitt is kinda funny, when was that?
Thanks for all the great news and the great vids WDW, such Gyllentreat on my birthday, real nice...
I love it when he sing Night Fever in such cute voice, and my another favourite is The Fox, that really shows his musical talent, I'm really eager to see Jake in musical role, is there any further info bout Damn Yankees?
Thanks for the posts WDW, and looking forward for your analysis bout the vote result.

Hi Sweetpea :) It is indeed true that very few musicals feature exceesively bearded singers!

Happy birthday Serene! I hope you're having a lovely day :D I hpe he will shave it but at the moment I'll just be so glad to see him anywhere, in any shape or form! No word on Damn Yankees since the spring when Jake didn't deny it was happening :D

It was a real Donnie Darko-esque moment, Claire! Maybe it has deep significance. But yeah, it has caused some chuckles!

I think it's gonna thunder - run for the hills!

Anonymous said...

Can Jake really sing? According to various people (not just one) who have heard him say..Yes. And that means actually singing a whole song I'm sure.
Don't think he would be interested in doing a musical if he thought he couldn't sing.
Music has always been a big part of his life.

Warning! off topic (burn notice)

Hi WDW and y'all,

That thunder you experienced might have originated down under.
Who's having an identity crisis? Commenting using other WDW'ers aliases? Normally I couldn't care less about these things... It's the way of the "interwebs", right. But this just feels too creepy.
What follows is my personal rebuke, and does in no way intend to reflect the opinion of anyone else here:

Don't - ever - do - that - again!
Not amused!
Your comments seem sweet, so why not just post them under your own alias. If however, you're lurking around to snag a dame... Not a chance!

(The real lemniscate swings her hair to shake of this defiance. Then, slowly withdraws her virtual claws and fangs, returning to her usual, courteous and jovial nature.)

Being convinced you can sing is 80% of the required skill. ;-) His falsetto could limit his opportunities though. No more Bee Gees please...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi KC! I'm sure he can sing but there's only one way for us to find out for sure - musical! With or without the tights...

Lemniscate, I am so sorry that I didn't pick up on that but I can see on this thread now that it wasn't just you. You always log on to your blogger so that's the best way for everyone to ensure thay know who is who.

A note to anyone thinking of using someone else's name - this is not how things are done here and it's not tolerated. Lemniscate puts it perfectly.

Jake,

Next time you're at WDW, grab a copy of "Hidden Mickeys" by Steve Barrett (they sell it in the parks)!

The book has scavenger hunts that turn looking for hidden Mickeys into a real fun game. Buy one for everyone in your group and you can compete.

Enjoy!

Hey Kelly! Thanks very much for commenting! As a very frequent visitor to Disney, I know your books - I've even been known to spot the occasional Mickey :D Thanks, WDW
