Moon maestro Clint Mansell to score Source Code!

This evening Duncan Jones, director of Source Code, tweeted some great news about the film: 'Have a bloody fantastic bit of Source Code news. Super star Clint Mansell WILL be scoring the film. You have no idea how relieved I am.' And so should all of us - you only have to listen to the soundtrack of Duncan's earlier masterpiece Moon to know what Mansell can bring to a film. To quote Duncan again, he's 'bloody fantastic'.

At the BFI Q&A (videos now cruelly deleted thanks to the BFI), Duncan talked about how he got Clint Mansell on board for Moon. Like other talented people Duncan wanted on board, such as Kevin Spacey, Duncan had to make an entire first print of the film in order to convince them. Convinced they were but it can't have been easy. The first soundtrack for Moon featured Clint Mansell's earlier scores - such as for Requiem of a Dream. Clint saw it, the score didn't match and so he wrote Moon's own music. And it is tremendous.

Jake Gyllenhaal's films have been oustanding for their music - just think Moonlight Mile, Donnie Darko, Zodiac. And for scores, how about Brokeback Mountain? It was Oscar winning for Gustavo Santaolalla. And then there's Jarhead and Brothers - Thomas Newman scored both. Harry Gregson-Williams gave me another CD for the collection, for Prince of Persia.

Clint Mansell, I have no doubt, will give us another. Yet another reason - and there are so many - to tick off those days until Source Code is upon us.

Fantastic news! :-) You're right about Jake's films' soundtracks. I've been playing PoP's music a lot lately and I can't listen to Brokeback's score without getting misty-eyed.

In other news, I introduced a couple of friends to PoP tonight. After dinner they commented on the dvd, which was strategically placed well in sight. *grin* And so we settled down and I could enjoy Dastan again. We noticed quite a big continuity fault in the snake attack scene - anyone else seen it? :-) It was good fun, but how is my alarm clock supposed to go off in 5 hours?!

This is great news!!! I love Clint Mansell. I have been mesmerized since the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack. *shudders* I still get goosebumps when I listen to it...

Clint Mansell is not someone whose work I'm familiar with, but I've seen a fewmovies that he wrote sounbdtrack for {"Definitely Maybe," "Trust the Man," "Sicko"), so I expect that "Source Code" will be in very good hands with him.

Today I saw "Easy A" and loved it. I don't think the movie has any links to Jake. Emma Stone is good enough to be in a movie with jake someday, so let's keep our fingers crossed and hope. :-)

I love his scores... YES! The more I hear about SC, the more I think it could become a cult classic and definitely one of my favourite movies ever. Lots of things need to fall into place to make a movie that little bit extra special. And it seems they're doing a great job of it for SC. Can't wait to see it!

Damn! Can you believe I only voted just now?? I couldn't decide what to vote for... I think sometimes I take things too seriously, LOL... Although Jake is a serious matter, isn't he??? Went for Whodunnit, Western and Drama... Of course I also would like to see him in a Comedy because I think he would do a great job, but I am scared that the comedy itself would be a crappy one... I would also love to hear him sing, but I am not really a fan of Musicals, so.... You see? It was very difficult! And let's be honest I would love to see him in about anything... :D :D

Oh, and I finally got around to ordering the PoP soundtrack *rolls eyes* - and by listening to it I really got in the mood for some Dastan!!!! Less than two weeks and it will be out here! (Hehe, couldn't order it online in the UK cause I need to go to the store and buy it and ask then if I can have the huge cardboard Dastan they will hopefully have as decoration when they take it down again... Thought it wouldn't be wise to ask for it and not even buy the DVD there... I really don't know if they will have any decoration up, but maybe Disney decided it would be a good idea to do some more promotion for this movie... And I am still very fond of my huge cardboard Jack&Ennis... It might get a bit crowded in my bedroom, though... :D :D :D

Don't know Clint Mansell's music (Requiem of a dream is a loooong time ago...), but I just listened to the YouTube links you posted. I can imagine that he is the right guy for a movie like Source Code...

Damn, I just went to IMDB and they changed their whole look! And it seems like they don't list the release dates for all the different countries anymore!! Or am I just too dumb to find it now?? Argh! That really sucks!!!

Have a good day everyone!!

Good morning everyone!

That's great, lady Ekster! keep up the good work and soon we will take over the planet... bwahaha!!!! :D

Ooh, I will check out that snake scene again. I may have seen it more times than I've had hot dinners but I've not spotted the error yet. I'll have a look! And yes, me too with the BBM soundtrack :)

Morning Tiffany! That is such a great soundtrack - we're in for somethig special here.

Hi Paul! I don't know Easy A at all. I'll have a look to see what that is.

I totally agree, Leminscate :D I think this is going to be very special and it's great for Duncan that it can have a much bigger audience than Moon.

Good to see you, Uli! And very glad to hear you're taking the poll seriously. I would have thought that with your penchant (I really wish they'd left that word out of PoP!) for Ukelele Jake, you'd like to see him in a musical :D

That's quite a collection of cardboard Jake art you're collecting there. I seem to remember that you left the PoP London premiere with a very big Jake :D How's he getting on? Oh IMDb, their new look is diabolical.

Have a great day everyone! And did anyone see Jupiter last night? Incredible.

ooh my word is 'dastin'

Yes, we are definitely in for something special here, WDW!!! I just cast my vote! Sorry, it's been hectic lately! I forgot to mention how much I love the Moon score, too. Have any of you ever wondered what it would be like to watch a movie without a score? I imagine it would be dreadfully emotionless. The score is one of the first, if not the only thing sometimes, that I notice when I'm in a theater watching a movie. I love movie scores!

Oh what was Jupiter like last night - I have seen it because it has been very bright lately but I didnt look last night :(

Ooh WDW, naked Jake in bed for our birthday - that would be amazing!!!! Especially if it was in real life ha ha ;D

Cant wait for Source Code or LAOD

I just voted yesterday, I was away from my computer last week because my sister got married Saturday and there were a thousand things to do before the big day and a lot of time spent with visiting family which was so great. :)

I voted for Historical and Animation. I would really, really, really love to see (hear)him in an animated film with just is lovely voice to listen to and not be distracted by his too-gorgeous-not-to-look-at physical self. I'm sure he would be fantastic in something like "How to train your dragon".

The first pic in your post made me realize how much I miss my scruffy, smiling Jake. He's so beautiful. Please Jake, just get rid of Dill and go for a nice cup of coffe so we can see you. Or go to the medical center, they must miss you, you haven't been there in ages. :D

Hello everyone!

It would be so weird, Tiffany! I know the first previews of PoP were without the score - just too strange to imagine.

hi Karen! Apparently it's the closest it's been to earth in decades. I thought I wouldn't be able to see it but it was the brightest thing up there - so bright I couldn't see any stars - just the moon and Jupiter. Lovely.

Hi there TD! It really is :D

Great to see you Olympia! I hope you had a good time - sounds like you did :D I would love to see Jake in a historical movie too and it would be great to have Jake doing the voice for something like How to Train Your Dragon - one of the best films I've seeen in a long time.

And yes, yes, yes! I miss Jake. At this rate he'll be getting the boot from the Medical Center!

Hi All, There have been Twitter sightings of Mr G with a full beard in NYC.
Im thinking he's moonlighting in a NY Medical Centre using the beard as cover - LOL i dont think its working Jake
Must be very bushy & wild now, i hope he isnt doing a brad pitt with the beads, that was so wrong x

BR said...

T: Ah, see, I think Brad Pitt wasn't able to pull off beard growth well. It was like his facial hair was saying 'HOW DARE YOU?' and thus became a straggly mess.

Jake's beard, however, is very very yummy.

Obsessed, me?

Hi T! That is a very frightening thought - but great that he's come to light :D

Ahhh, BR, Jake is testing you with his beard! How much can you take :)

Hi there Gretchen :D I don't know the Fountain soundtrack but I'll certainly try and find it now. I'm about to check out your link too :)
