[Updated with new video] 'Let fear be your guide' - Jake Gyllenhaal faces his fears in a new clip from Man Vs Wild - eek!

Update! New video - more peril, more weather, more Jake hanging onto a rope - this time we have snow traps. If you can't see the flash video below, here's the link. Thanks to those who gave me the link!

Before you watch the video below from Jake Gyllenhaal's appearance on Man Vs Wild with Bear Grylls, I advise you pace around the room, do some breathing exercises and fill those lungs with air because I promise you, you may not be able to look! In this clip, Jake faces his fear of heights - and the elements - to clamber (possibly not the right word for this sort of hairbrained activity) across a rope above a big empty space and drop to nowhere. Are you ready? Are you sure? Here it is.

'You're going to be strong' says Bear to Jake. Never mind, Jake, what about us?! 'It's pretty high!' says Jake. Not that I heard that bit, I'd passed out.

Here are some caps. They are not for the fainthearted.

My review of Life in a Day is up at MovieBrit.

Holy friggin EXPLETIVES!! I think I will have to take a sedative before I can watch the entire episode. I don't like heights either, and that's about the scariest thing I've ever seen... One thing is for sure: Jake has cojones of steel!

UFF! This video is really breath taking. Brave Jake! I would never, ever do that.
I wonder if he had a slightest idea what Bear Gryll has prepared for him. Or was he took by surprise. The view from the safe side of the rope is absolutely fainting and nausea causing. And seeing Jake in the middle of the rope - even more. I wonder if it wasn't any other more safely way to the other side? :)
It doesn't look for me like Bear had any real control over Jake's life there. Any stronger wind and... I don't want to even think about that.
And Jake looked so peaceful on that picture with guitar at the airport. Who could predicted, what he went through?

Hi Susan! It took me about three goes before I could get through it! OMG my heart was in my mouth for Jake and I was so proud of him and Bear. NO WAY could I have done that!

Isn't it incredible, Mermon! I can't imagine ever being able to do that. I could hardly look. I have every faith in Bear though and he is such a motivator. What an adventure. I can't wait to see the whole thing :)

And after watching that you know what I have to do next before bed? Another jigsaw! Aaargh!

OH MY GOODNESS, I cannot believe Jake and Bear did that!?!?!? I was not expecting something like this on the show.
I will be out of town on July 11th, but hopefully I can watch it online at Discoverychannel's website or something.

I know, Margot! It's such a shock! And much more than on the Will Ferrell edition of the show. Just shows what an adventurer Jake is. I'm very hopeful we'll be able to see the show here one way or another.

Oh.My.God. I've been so looking forward to this Man Vs Wild show but I honestly don't know how on earth I'm going to watch it?! I barely survived the freaking clip!! Thank you for sharing WDW (I think)?!

BTW - I am happy to say I am slowly recovering from a 4th of July weekend that was a complete excess of everything and to help me recover I caught up on all the WDW posts I missed! Whoowheee! I love them all and thank you for all the updates over the past few weeks WDW! Lots of good stuff including quite a few interludes with beautiful photos. I think it's funny how I was calmly plugging along reading up on old news and looking at pretty scenic pictures and then BAM I run into this scary Man Vs Wild clip without warning!! Woke me right up - ha ha!

Thanks again WDW and it was nice to read everyone's comments too - I've missed this place! :-)

Holy crap! What the heck was Bear thinking to risk Jake's life like that! I think I couldn't have watched it had I not known that Jake would obviously survive judging from the pics we have seen with him since.

I couldn't see it with sound yet, but it's scary enought as it is. Don't they always say "Don't look down." when you have a fear of hights? How on earth are you supposed to manage that when you "lie" face down on a rope?
Jake's one hell of a man to go through this in such bravery! Don't think that Ryan Reynolds (Sexiest Man Alive - supposedly) would have pulled this off!

Ehm - I just wanted to watch the video again and it says it's been deleted by the owner? Am I the only one who can't see it?

OMG!!! Being afraid of the heights myself I could barely watch! Jake really was brave, Jesus, I would have never done that, not even for a million euros...damn! I'm shocked, I say, shocked! I can't think of what could have happened!

*hyperventilates*

*breaths in, breaths out*

I hope it will come back !!!
Have a nice day everyone.

Morning everyone! Thanks for the comments and for the links! I've replaced the YouTube video and added the other one. Thanks to all those who sent me links.

Hey BBMISwear :-) I know! hard to watch. I had to stop it the first time I saw it to take some deep breaths. I felt really panicky for him. Such a brave thing to do. Possibly a little daft! But brave :) So so glad you're catching up!! Hope you had a good 4 July holiday.

Morning Mrs JG! Amazing eh? I can't imagine many stars being able to do this. Nothing like the Will Ferrell episode.

Hi JuliaEnnis! I hope your hyperventilation has calmed down a bit! And thanks for the other link :)

There's no escape , Christina, you can see it now :)

Have a great day everyone!

Now with sound - and thanks for the second video.
Doesn't that exhaling sound he makes on that rope, when he's getting tired, remind you of the Source Code? I think I remember that he said he had kept his breath before shooting, so that would look more real. Well obviously it did, because he makes the same sound in RL.
Thanks again for the links - awesome!

Thanks so much Tektuura! And thank you for popping by to say hello.

Hi there Mrs JG! It does remind me of it! I think Jake has grown so much over the last few years - the courage and eagerness to be challenged. I'm very proud of him - living life to the full :) Even if some of it seems barking mad!

More videos in the new post!
