Sew your own Jake Gyllenhaal
You know what it's like. A busy weekend has left you collapsed into your comfiest armchair as the sun sets through the window behind you. How to relax? OMG! I had no idea you were actually going to post this. *lol* That's so funny.
It's quite a shame that I have promised myself to first finish the other 2,5 big stitch projects I have left, before starting something new. Cross stitching being just a holiday hobby for me, it'll probably take me another ten years before I get them done, haha. But this... I might make an exception for this. ;-)
I loved it, Lady Ekster! I used to do cross stitch and other needlework everyday, ever since I was given my first kit on my 18th birthday. But... the day I started writing about Jake was the day I stopped, so he has a lot to answer for! Can I have a Gyllenplushie?

I got my first two kits at the age of 18 too! How funny is that. :) I'm very fond of the color blue and my mum gave me two beautiful sets of blue fairies/butterfly creatures - one at night, one at day. Truth be told, I started with the night version and I'm still working on it... I started a snow tiger a few winters back so my current stitch status is 2 projects half-way and 1 still wrapped and waiting to be unpacked... *blush*
What did you use to make?

I mainly used to make patterns out of art deco or art nouveau designs (lots of William Morris) - especially designs involving birds. I also used to do maps of the UK with little designs of historical places on them. My mum has them all safe :)
OMG - needlework Jake! How fun is that. I will keep this in a safe spot, because they usually do croxx stitch in elementary school and I will have my kids to this "pattern".

I used to design cross stitch patterns. I had a hard time blowing this one up, but I made it bigger, more contrast, black & white, etc. I think it will be easier to follow. I just wish I could see a pic of the finished product. I'd hate to do all that work and then not like the design/colors. Picky me!
@LadyEd: If this patter was one of your mom's books, they usually show finished projects on the cover. Any chance of that?

Let me echo the prevailing sentiment: OMG! Jake in cross-stitch! I will have to locate and dust off all my old cross-stitching stuff and tackle this as a priority project! It's been years since I did any cross-stitching and now it looks like the quilting project I was planning to start will still be on hold indefinitely...

I'm in London for a special screening of Rise of the Planet of the Apes with a talk by the director, Surkis and some others. It should be lovely! And thanks to Rob for showing me Forbidden Planet!
What the heck?! Where did all this sudden cross stitch love come from? This is fabulous, ladies! We are bound by a deep admiration for The J ánd an interest in needlework. One day we will be sitting in a giant, worldwide home for the elderly, rocking our chairs and remembering the early years of Gyllendom while stitching yet another Jake plushie... *big grin*
@Elisabeth: this was only a small design in the mag, so unfortunately they didn't show the end product. :-( But they have designed it from the pic below the pattern, so it'll look at lot like that one, I guess.

Before watching HP Deathly Hallows 2 - I watched a Rise of the Planet of the Apes trailer and I liked it very much. It's James Franco and Tom Felton in it. I have to watch it soon. Kate - have fun!
I saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes last weekend. I was hesitant to get too excited about it, being such a fan of the original and not being very keen on remakes, but they did this one right! Actually more of a prequel, it neatly tied in all of the major plot points (and some famous lines) from the first one with Charlton Heston, a must for anyone who has fond memories of the 1968 version.
James Franco may have top billing, but it's Caesar (Andy Serkis) who steals the show. Before the end of the movie, I was rooting for the apes to take over! Kate, I can't wait to hear what you think of it. Are you familiar with the original?

Hi there Susan! I do know the original. I wasn't that keen, despite my love of Charlton Heston but tonight sounded wonderful.
A brief update here on tonight. I went to a lovely hotel in Soho, London, to see Apes. It was introduced by the director and Andy Serkis (I didn't recognise him with hair as I last saw him in 2007). Met up with friends etc so a great atmosphere. About 15 minutes from the end a powercut struck the whole area. The film went dead.
Candles were brought out and a buzz went round that the London riots had reached is. I live a good 90 minutes from London and I didn't fancy making my way across the city to get my bus and so I leapt in a taxi to the railway station and came home. Apparently, the Q&A did go ahead afterwards in candlelight but I know some there at least were anxious about what may or may not have been going on above their heads in the city.
I loved the large amount of the film that I saw. I'm really sorry that I couldn't see the end, or the Q&A but delighted to be able to give applause to the director and Serkis at the beginning. What a night...
Wow, that could have been a really dicey situation with the rioting going on in London. I'm sorry you had to miss the ending (it was very good, and very satisfying for me) but glad you made it home safely.
WDW! So scary about your night in London! I'm glad all went okay for the filmmakers in the end but don't blame you for making your way back home and not taking any chances commuting through the city with all that going on - yikes!
I really like James Franco and remember the old Planet of the Apes movies so will have to give this one a shot I think.
Oh...and I just have to say I really enjoyed reading the random cross-stitching conversation that went on here...I was laughing out loud at some points. What an unexpected road you Gyllenhaalics went down for a while there - ha ha! And I must admit I have never, ever, cross-stitched - but wouldn't mind a completed JG cross-stitch pattern and may have to find some creative type to do one for me. Hee hee!
